Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. In this new installment of the Deputy Donut series, Emily, the main character finds herself being suspected of murder. As she tries to clear her name, she finds out more about the builder and original owner of her house.
This series gets better with each book. The main character is pleasant and sweet, as well as the recurring chracters such as her in-laws and her friends. It was great to have Emily's parents in the book, it added a nice, feel-good aspect. Since this is a mystery book, it was great to have a solid story that has the reader trying to guess who the culprit is. With the addition of a despicable character, namely Chief Agnew, all the ingredients were present for a most enjoyable cozy mystery. Unpleasant characters are necessary in my humble opinion, as they usually help move the story forward. Great book, not to be missed!
When Brent was away and the new police chief seemed determined to pin a murder or any crime on Emily, I was so glad to see Brent was instrumental in getting the cavalry to come in the form of Agent Rex Clobar. I'd enjoyed his character before since he reminds me of a certain agent Gibbs! At least Emily felt more protected from a possibly bad lawman when Rex was in town. I wish Rex could stay and replace that new police chief!
Misty and Scott's wedding went off like a charm, but after that was when the murder happened. Emily had a new sleuthing buddy but wasn't sure if she could trust him or not. There was a pretty awesome showdown followed by Brent's homecoming when he was done teaching the police course. I absolutely loved the very ending! Slight tissue warning, but happy tears, no worries! And Dep's soooo darn cute! You'll see what I mean when you read it. Don't miss this when it releases Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (tomorrow).
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.
Life is going well for Emily. Business is good at The Deputy Donut Cafe, the donut shop she runs with her late husbands father. She's dating Brent, a local police detective. But wait, we have a new character joining the group and, honestly, I can't wait. to see him ridden out of town. He'a the new police chief and he has sent Brent out of town on police business, has taken an instant dislike to Emily and becomes her worst nightmare when she lands smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation...as the prime suspect. What can he possible have against a policeman's widow?
A woman comes into the donut shop and as she makes a hasty exit, she drops an earring. When Emily tracks her down Emily finds her murdered and evidence starts pointing at Emily. Without Brent to act as a buffer the police chief becomes a big problem. Add an old photo of Emily's house, some Viking artifacts and the twists, turns and red herrings add up fast. Exactly what I have come to expect from every book in this series. Her relationship with her father-in-law, her budding romance with Brent, the setting of a small town donut shop and a great cat - this series checks all of the boxes for a well crafted cozy series. More please.
My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
I've become a big fan of reading a series in order and if the premise for this one hadn't hooked me I probably would have passed. I'm so glad I didn't! For starters, I was able to jump in with absolutely no issue and felt connected to Emily right away. Emily is a nice person with a quick mind. While not in law enforcement herself, she is surrounded by people who are and is aware of how things work.
The mystery is a good one. Emily's attention is caught by a woman at her shop who seems very unhappy and then scared. She is shocked and saddened when she later finds the woman dead and is pulled into the investigation only by the strange actions of the new Police Chief. When odd things start happening around Emily's home and things may connect back to the murdered woman Emily is pulled even farther in.
This was a fast read with likable characters. I loved the community the author created - especially Emily's strong group of friends - and can easily see this being a favorite series just so I can revisit these characters. The mystery was woven into Emily's day to day life so that while she is investigating it doesn't come off as over the top nosiness. I really wasn't quite sure what was going on until Emily herself figured it out. If you're looking for an interesting mystery with a great community this is a fantastic choice.
Bolton’s newest entry in the Deputy Donut Mystery series hit’s it out of the park. Bolton’s a favorite author and effortlessly balances the clues, red herrings and suspects perfectly in such a way to keep you guessing ‘til the last page. As always, Bolton’s characters are incredibly likeable and it’s a joy to catch up with Emily and the folks of Fallingbrook, Wisconsin. Oh and do NOT get me started on the ever lovable Dep the cat. Additionally, you’ll love all of the deliciously yummy recipes included. Since this is seventh book in the series, you’ll for sure want to check out Survival of the Fritters, book one.
I received this eARC thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books, Kensington Cozies in exchange for an honest review. Publishing dates are subject to change.
I love this series so much and this book is no exception. Emily and her friends are the best and to be able to read about another happy (and lovely sounded) wedding where Emily could just enjoy her friends' and family's company. Of course there is a murder mystery going on, so I am proud of her for focusing on the happy times. I am so excited for Emily's romance, even though Bret is not physically in town during this book, his love and calming presence is always so nice to read. Dep constantly stole the show with her cat antics and her furry personality shines through. I love how Emily is smart and caring and also no nonsense when it comes to sticking up for herself and others. Especially when there is a stubborn, hard headed new police chief that seems to do everything wrong and not care about the people of his own town. The mystery had many suspects and I enjoyed all the twists and turns and loved the shocking ending! (I did not see it coming). I cannot wait for more of this series.
This series is a delight ! I am so thankful it remains published as its been a couple of years since the last release. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinon is my own. This is the 7th book in the Deputy Donut Mystery series. I have enjoyed the entire series and all the likable charcters. Emily owns a charming donut shop that is well loved by the town. This is placed in small town Wisconsin which is both charming and enjoyable to read. The coffee, donuts and the conversations are pleasantly friendly to the reader .
Emily has a new mysterious customer that leaves in a hurry after gifting her cat a toy. When she leaves behind her earring Emily runs out to find her and finds the woman murdered. The local police chief is contensious and rude to Emily believing her as the primary suspect. Emily has to quickly solve this mystery to save herself and her business . With her friends and neighbors help Emily soon finds red herrings abound and suspects a plenty with mysterious clues leading her in many directions with her investigation.
I loved this return to the series. All of the charcters are well crafted, the sleuth was enticing to conclusion and I pleasantly did not figure out the ending. A fun page turner and enjoyable read to conclusion. I highly recommend.
Cinnamon Twisted was another super sweet installment in this super sweet cozy mystery series. I've really grown attached to Emily and her crew, especially Dep! Fans of the series will surely be delighted by this one.
Emily finds herself--or her house, rather--at the center of a treasure hunt gone awry. She always knew her historic old home held some interesting history, and she's about to find out just how far some will go to uncover it. There's a new customer in Deputy Donut and even though she is acting very strangely, nothing could have prepared Emily for finding the woman's dead body later that day. Worse, there's a new police chief in town who clearly doesn't like Emily or her relationship with Brent. He sends Brent away for the week and decides to investigate the murder himself. But Emily isn't sure Chief Agnew can be trusted. Once again, she knows she has to put her amateur sleuthing skills to use and find the culprit.
Amidst the investigating, we also get to see Emily's close friends Misty and Scott get married, and spend some time with Emily's parents at their summer campground. For those rejoicing in Emily and Brent's relationship...keep reading to the end. That's all I'll say. And for those who love to bake, there are some very yummy recipes included!
We get to see Misty and
I always enjoy Ginger Bolton's Deputy Donut Mysteries, so my pleasure in reuniting with Emily Westhill, her darling cat, Dep, and the other characters in small town Wisconsin, was great. Though Brent is away for most of this story, Emily manages a plausible defense for herself when suspected of a crime by the new Chief. This storyline hooked me from the start, and I was pulled into the mystery--as determined to solve it as Emily was. What a surprise to find my choice for the murder suspect was completely wrong! The pace was so fast, and the clues--- twisted! The more I learned, the faster I read--I finished in one sitting because of my need to solve the puzzle. I can't recommend this book enough!
A hearty thank you to NetGalley, Kensington Cozies, and Ginger Bolton for the opportunity to read an Advanced Digital Readers Copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own. I am so excited to share this book with other cozy/mystery loving readers.

Emily observes a woman sitting alone in Deputy Donut Café for hours in the afternoon for two days when the woman surprises her and gives her a catnip toy for Dep, Emily’s cat.
Then the woman asks to leave by the backdoor after spotting a man entering the café. A fellow shopkeeper sees the woman drop part of her earring as she flees down the back alley behind the stores. Emily retrieves the earring piece to return to her customer.
Unfortunately, when Emily goes to return the earring piece, she finds the woman dead – murdered. Brent Fyne, Emily’s good friend and deputy, responds to her call to the police, followed by the new Police Chief, Irving Agnew. The new chief immediately sends Brent out of town to teach a two-week course and considers Emily his primary suspect.
Ginger Bolton weaves a complex mystery with plenty of red herrings and challenging twists. And, of course, Dep, Emily’s tabby, finds an important clue. Ms. Boltons Deputy Donut series is both creative and well done and always a special treat for feline fans.
I was so worried this series was over! It has been 2 years since our last donut mystery and I was delighted to see there was a new one coming out. It certainly did not disappoint and I want to try those pesto twists!!
Emily Westhill's life is full of rainbows and roses. Until she notices a woman in her coffee/donut shop who spends hours sitting and watching. The woman leaves her cat a toy donut and flees the premises and she has three possible suspects to the woman's terror. When she winds up dead, the new police chief seems determined to point fingers at all the suspects who make absolutely no sense. I wanted to punch that twit he was so arrogant and eager to point fingers in all the wrong places. Any cozy amateur sleuth knew he was barking up the wrong tree. Unfortunately, Emily's hunky paramour gets sent away to teach a police class that Chief Jerkwad was supposed to teach and cannot assist in the investigation. Will the Chief get it right or will Emily end up behind bars?
I wound up missing a lot of the usual supporting cast in this particular book as Emily and Brent's friends are just as prominent as they are in prior books. The author explained away a few of their absences but two of them getting hitched, but even the Knitpickers didn't have much of a role in this book. I hope we can return to the usual character banter I missed in this book. However, it was still fun to read and I was excited to get another installment in this series. Please keep them coming!!
My thanks to Kensington Cozies and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another delightful addition to this wonderful series. Yum, donuts, coffee too. The tale moved along nicely with some interesting new characters. It kept me guessing. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Emily didn't kill the customer who gave her cat Dep a catnip toy but the Police Chief isn't so sure. After all, he's not very fond of her, or of Detective Brent, former partner of Emily's deceased husband and now, after much back and forth, her romantic interest. It's not just the murder, though, it's that something is going on at Emily's house. Is there treasure there? Fans of the series will be pleased to see movement in the Brent-Emily relationship and new readers will be fine with this as a standalone. The mystery(s) are a tad less satisfying than I like but it's still a fun read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. AND there are recipes!
Thanks to #NetGalley for a chance to read an ARC of this book! I have enjoyed this series for a long time and this latest volume is no different! I enjoy this series because Emily is a smart amateur sleuth who uses common sense and doesn't make stupid mistakes. When she comes across the body of a murdered women who spent the last two afternoons in the donut shop and definitely seemed afraid of something or someone she realizes that she might need to get involved as the new Chief of Police sees her as a suspect. With Brett sent out of town and another one of her friends on the force on her honeymoon, Emily realizes she had better do a little looking into things herself if she wants to stay out of jail!
Cinnamon Twisted by Ginger Bolton is due to be published April 25,203 by Kensington Books. This is the 7th book in the Deputy Donut Mystery series. This is the first book I’ve read in this series and it was absolutely phenomenal. I felt the small town vibes and loved the overall atmosphere of the book. Emily and Brent are my favorite characters and can’t wait to read more about them.
Very entertaining cozy mystery with a donut bakery theme. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good cozy mystery.
Thank you NetGalley, Ginger Bolton and Kensington Books for allowing me the chance to read this ARC for free and leave this review .
This is such a fun series, and I had a great time with this cozy mystery. I loved the plot, the twists and turns, and the characters!
This is the seventh book in the series and my first. I was able to read as a standalone. The mystery caught me from the first page and I had to find out who and why. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what happens next in the series.
Although this book is part of a long-standing series, I was able to follow along like it was a stand-alone and I was not disappointed. Charming characters (except the unscrupulous new police chief), quaint settings, and delicious donuts and coffee. I enjoyed the house history storyline as well. The author did a good job of not giving away the culprit too early. Will definitely read the rest of the books now. For cozy mystery fans.
Net Galley Feedback
This is Book 7 in the series, and it gives is an interesting twist. In this book Emily, the mystery at hand leads literally straight to Emily's door, making her a possible suspect/person of interest. Add in a new cop who doesnt like civilians intruding itno his investigations and you have a set up for not only new characters, but for the reader to see another side of Emily and her fellow crew. Thre is a bit of a red herring that keeps the story interesting and page turning near the end, making for a quite enjoyable read!
This is the seventh book in the Deputy Donut Mystery. I really liked this story. Emily Westhill is only looking into the murder of a recent customer because the new police chief is certain she is the killer.
The new police chief is rude, obsessed, and way out of line in his dealing with the police force, potential suspects, and people in town. I liked all the twists, turns, and surprise alibis.
I thought the house history was very interesting. The ending has a surprise. Looking forward to the next installment.
I was given an advanced readers’ copy by Netgalley. I am not required to leave a positive review.
