If you like a protagonist who owns her own business, an adorable cat & delicious bakes goods, than this is a series for you! This time around Emily finds the victim when trying to return a lost earring & after that things get even more bizarre. I like that she’s now more established with the love interest (who happens to also be a cop).
This one has a really interesting plot, the victim having possession of something that leads to Emily or rather the house she lives in. I really enjoy when a current mystery helps solve something from the past. Add in one of her best friend’s wedding, archaeology & a untrustworthy lead cop & this book has a lot going on & it’s a fun read.
A truly delightful cozy series. I’m never disappointed when I receive a new one.
The characters and whodunit are top notch!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I love this little town. The stores are vibrant and they make you just want to be there. Once again authored Ginger Bolton did not disappoint in this story. I thought from the beginning I knew what was going on, but it turns out I didn’t really know once I got into it, and got immersed in the town and the donut shops and dap the store mascot I was fearful for things that were happening To Emily made me feel like I was right there . And when the true killer is revealed, it was like a knife to the heart I really never thought it would be them. The characters in this town are characters you’d want to deal with on a daily basis by one hope for this serious is that Emily and the hunky detective end up together. Cannot wait for the next book in the series.
Entertaining cozy with bakery theme. Emily Westhill, her tortie cat, Dep; and Detective boyfriend, Brent Fyne, must reason out the death of a strange woman who gives Dep a catnip donut toy at the bakery. Chief Agnew with the local police department is a thorn in their side. He does nothing by the book and is covering up evidence. Emily is one of his top suspects. There is also a tie-in with the history of the house Emily owns. It seems someone believes treasure is hidden there and she’s having mysterious intruders.
I’ve read every story in the Deputy Donut series and found this plot a bit contrived, yet still an interesting read. The perpetrator is wily and the ending wrap-up is neat as everything is explained.
I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. All opinions are my own.
Cinnamon Twisted by Ginger Bolton is book #7 in the Deputy Donut Mystery series. Emily Westhill, co-owner of Deputy Donut, finds herself involved in solving a local murder. This time she doesn't have Brent, the police detective she has started dating, to help as the new police chief has found a way to keep Brent out of the investigation. There are a number of possible suspects but the police chief has honed in on Emily and her new neighbor. I really like the characters. It adds to the interest that there is always someone from the police department who seems to have it in for Emily. I really do not like the new police chief.
This was a really interesting case and I really enjoyed following along trying to solve it with Emily. This is a really fun series. I greatly enjoyed this latest addition.
Deputy Donut Cafe owner Emily Westhill is intrigued when a female customer gives Emily’s cat Dep a toy donut, looks panicked and asks to leave by the rear door. Concerned about the customer, Emily finds one of her earrings outside. When Emily tries to return the earring, she finds the woman dead in her rented lakeside cottage.
New Fallingbrook Falls police chief Agnew quickly suspects Emily of killing Pamela after they find the earring & an envelope containing a cryptic letter & photograph of a woman standing in front of Emily’s house. Agnew acts weird, first sending Emily's detective beau Brent out-of-town so he can't be part of the investigation & then searching Emily's property & accusing her of having jewelry stolen from elderly patients. He then abruptly arrests Emily's new neighbor Daniel for the murder.
The subplots involving Viking artifacts, a hidden treasure & a wedding adds to the story.
This was another fine book in the Deputy Donut mystery series.
I received a digital ARC from Netgalley and Kensington. All opinions are my own.
I’m always on the lookout for another cozy mystery series to read, so I was very interested in Cinnamon Twisted. Unfortunately, after reading seventy-eight pages, I decided to put this book down. There was nothing in particular about the setting, characters, or the introduction of the mystery that was wrong. My primary problem was “it’s me not the thing” situation, where I didn’t vibe with the author’s style. So, while those other aspects about the story had promise, it just wasn’t for me.
This copy of the book was provided by the publisher (Kensington Books) via NetGalley for this review, thank you!
It's donuts, treasure hunting, and murder in Cinnamon Twisted!
I enjoyed reading this book, it's a wonderful cozy read. The characters, setting, and solving the mystery alongside the protagonist Emily made this a great book to enjoy. I recommend this book to readers.
This book can be read as a standalone, but I also recommend reading the other entries in this series as well. There's also recipes for readers to try as well. Readers will definitely have a taste for donuts and cinnamon twists while reading this book!
My thanks to Kensington Publishing for a digital copy of this book for my review. Here's to more of this series!
I enjoyed this latest Deputy Donut mystery. Emily was investigating the murder of one of her new customers. The police chief was a bit untoward in this story and I had a hard time figuring out whodunit. Definitely a great story that keeps you guessing and turning the pages. Plus don't miss the sweet scene at the end
I received an advance copy via NetGalley.
I enjoy cozy mystery series like this one, where I can pickup the seventh book and immediately get pulled into the world. I didn’t feel lost at all as I came to know Emily in her small Wisconsin town where she runs a donut shop. After a suspiciously-acting customer loses an earring near the shop, Emily drops by her rental house to return it and finds the woman dead—and herself listed as suspect number one by the town’s new inept police chief.
The mystery moves along at a good pace, with many suspects in the mix, but a number of elements felt forced, especially at the climax. The guilty party was apparent a bit early on. Even so, I enjoyed the setting and characters, and I’d read more in this series.
Ms. Bolton pens an amusing culinary/pet cozy. She gives us an eclectic group of characters, strong friend and family relationships along with the intrigue.
Several mysteries are incorporated to keep interest very strong, one a historical that Emily the lead character manages to suss out with the info that she has access to.
The recipes included sound delicious enough to give a try.
I highly recommend this cozy for any cozy lover.
I requested and received a NetGalley Arc to peruse gratis and offer my opinion ion the same.
CINNAMON TWISTED is the seventh book in the Deputy Donut Mysteries by Ginger Bolton. This character-driven cozy mystery has all the right ingredients to tempt a reader and keep them coming back for more. Protagonist Emily Westhill is part owner of Deputy Donut Café in the charming town of Fallingbrook, Wisconsin. Together with her former father-in-law, they keep the town, the police, and emergency personnel filled with sweet donut treats and coffee. I just adore the relationship Emily has with her former in-laws and law enforcement personnel after losing her detective husband years earlier. She’s caring and supportive, and has an inquisitive nature which makes her the ideal person to reach out to a troubled woman visiting her café. Ms. Bolton’s descriptive style brings both the setting and the characters to life, making the reader feel like they’re right there.
When Emily tracks down the troubled woman, in order to return an earring left behind and offer assistance, she finds the woman murdered. From there, the plot takes off with twists worthy of a cinnamon twist donut. With a new police chief on the scene, his antics add angst to Emily’s discovery and investigation. His directive sending Emily’s detective beau out-of-town leaves her to suss out the killer on her own. Could he be setting Emily up to take the fall for the woman’s murder, or is he just incompetent? The subplots provided added interest and speculation about who might have wanted the woman dead. With ancient Viking artifacts found in Emily’s yard thrown into the mix, along with a wedding, the story flowed and kept me turning pages. I was surprised by the reveal… I didn’t see it coming. And in her trademark fashion, Ms. Bolton weaves the subplots together with a murder mystery in one satisfying conclusion.
Reading the scenes at Deputy Donut will have you drooling over the sweet descriptions of the treats they serve. Fortunately for the home baker, there are a few recipes at the back of the book to try.
A dropped earring and an envelope with a cryptic note and picture inside point towards Emily Westhill as a murderer. .Add to it that the victim was seen at her donut shop and you have a mystery that if not solved may mean the end of everything Emily holds dear.
What a great mystery! Emily is coming into her own as an amateur sleuth but this case is a tricky one. I enjoyed the red herrings and twists and turns. The descriptions of the delicious donuts was good too! A mystery with a little romance, lots of family and friends around to help and the lovable feline sleuthing partner Dep by her side make for a cozy read you won't want to put down!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
'Cinnamon Twisted' was adequately full of twists and turns that kept me certain I had solved the mystery only to be proven wrong in the end. The characters for the most part are likeable, however the Chief of Police is like a cartoon buffoon and Emily's dialogue at times is a little juvenile. I also didn't quite understand her detachment in this book from her father-in-law and former Chief of Police. The behaviors of the current Chief of Police are actionable in any realm of discussion and yet Emily told neither Tom or Brent. So childishly unrealistic. That being said, I look forward to more with the hopes that Emily will progress in character development.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Loved this cozy mystery .Emily Westhill the manager of the Deputy Do-Nut is the amateur sleuth and she is very good.. She is very observant and detailed and actually always the one to discover the victim and always the first suspect. This is one of those cozies that I can't figure who done it until it is right in front of your eyes. This is a VERY GOOD Series and A VERY GOOD READ.
As late spring thinks about becoming summer, Emily Westhill, co-owner of Deputy Donuts, has a wedding to prepare for, alongside spending time with her handsome police detective boyfriend, as the days grow longer and warmer. Emily also hopes her new garage will be finished soon so she doesn’t have to share a part of every day with noisy builders.
After a new customer dies, with Emily finding the body, it seems as if her idyllic summer will have to be put on hold when evidence is discovered linking the victim to the home Emily used to share with her late husband. Suddenly it seems as if nothing but investigating herself can save Emily from a stay in the local jail, especially as the new police chief considers her his prime suspect.
In this the seventh of Ginger Bolton's Deputy Donuts books the mood is relaxed and convivial until new arrivals upset the status quo. The tension is mixed successfully with the more pleasant aspects of Emily's life, although some scenes were a little over long, and there are plenty of familiar faces to offset the newbies. The recently appointed police chief is a very successful foe and his personality and attitude were great fun to read. There is the promise of more excitement to come as the book draws to a close and I hope I won't have to wait too long to discover what happens next.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and happily recommend it.
Every now and then a book comes along that is un-put-down-able. That was this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ginger Bolton grabbed my attention with her descriptions of the places, scenes and people.. I love being able to imagine how everything looks to the characters and Cinnamon Twisted was full of wonderful details. I liked Emily and her situation at the donut shop - co-owning with her father in law. I haven't read any of her books before and this series really intrigued me. I am going to start from book 1. I loved Emily's relationship with the other women in the book as well as all the male friends. The fact that her husband has been dead for a while and that she has a boyfriend - the partner of her husband, is interesting. I definitely recommend this book and will be adopting it.
This is the 7th Deputy Donut mystery. I do recommend reading them in order.
Emily is preparing for the wedding of her best friend Misty to fire chief Scott when an unfamiliar woman begins to frequent the Cafe. She looks lonely and withdrawn so Emily introduces herself and learns that the woman, is renting a cabin out on Deepwish Lake. The stranger seems drawn to Emily's cat Dep, and asks if she can give her a catnip stuffed donut. The woman then seems spooked and asks to leave out the back door.
Being concerned, Emily follows the woman and sees she dropped an earring. Emily stops at the cabin to return the earring and finds the woman dead. The new chief of police seems to think she had something to do with the murder. Can she clear her name before it’s to late??
I love the characters in the Deputy donut series and I’m a huge fan of the stories!!
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of CINNAMON TWISTED (Book 7 of the Deputy Donut mysteries) by Ginger Bolton, in exchange for an honest review. Deputy Donut Cafe owner Emily Westhill is puzzled when a customer suddenly flees her cafe. The fleeing woman drops an earring, so Emily attempts to return the jewelry. However, the woman is past worrying about a missing bauble. When officers find an envelope addressed to Emily, it looks like Emily had a prior connection to the woman. So, Emily must clear her name since she's now the prime suspect.
I liked this book. I didn't read the prior books, but I had no problem following the storyline or distinguishing the characters. I recommend this book to fans of the series and to fans of cozy mysteries featuring murder and eateries.

Cinnamon Twisted is the seventh installment in the Deputy Donut Mystery series set in Fallingbrook, Wisconsin and featuring Emily Westhill, cafe co-owner of Deputy Donut.
Suddenly startled by something she sees out the window, the woman makes a quick departure out the back. Emily finds an earring and believing it belongs to the mysterious stranger decides to stop at her cabin, where unfortunately she discovers the house filling with smoke and the body of the woman dead in the owner's closet. Who would want to kill Pamela Firston?
With Detective Brent Fyne out of town, Emily finds herself and her new neighbor Daniel in the crosshairs of the new police chief, Chief Agnew who seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder. The murder investigation ties into the history of Emily's house and plenty of suspects surface from the dead woman's ex to the contractors working on Emily's new garage.
A well crafted addition to the series featuring cast regulars, the adorable furry feline, Dep and a romantic twist that's been a long time coming. A collection of delicious sounding recipes finish out the book.
I received an advanced copy of Cinnamon Twisted from Kensington Publishing via NetGalley. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
