If you don't read the synopsis of the book, the title sounds like a new drink you'd order at a bar--"I'd like a Sadie on the Rocks, please." But that's not what this book is about. It's about defining life in your own terms, about taking a hard look at yourself and seeing who is really there, and about finding adventure wherever you go.
Sadie lives in Gunnison, Colorado, and writes articles on dating life for a magazine, but the fly in the ointment is that Sadie hasn't been dating for quite a while. She really wants to branch out with her articles to include dealing with the single life instead of ways to just look for a partner.
Sadie was also feeling some discontent with her status quo in that she wanted some adventure, or something new in her life. When she went to the outdoor outfitters store, she happened upon a man who was setting up a display about the new rock climbing wall business that offered one free lesson for newcomers. She decided to try it.
This isn't a book about romance, although there is a little bit of that included, but it's a side issue to the plot. This is a book about finding a purpose and filling a need within one's own life. This isn't about looking at externals, but looking deep within oneself and finding one's personhood and being comfortable in one's own skin. Friendships old and new play a huge part of this book and Joanne Bischof takes a light-hearted look at life with friends, family, and adventures. I am coming to appreciate Joanne's writings the more I read her books and I look forward to the next book in the series.
This is the kind of book you take to your hammock on a sunny day and just enjoy the afternoon breezes while you read. Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a gold medal in a climbing competition.

This was such an inspiring read. It's slower paced, with a lot of introspection from Sadie as she's figuring out who she is and what she really wants in life, and I really enjoyed it. I was fully on board and cheering Sadie on!
Sadie was a genuinely likable character. Nice, encouraging, and relatable. It was so inspiring to watch her face and conquer some of her fears and try new things. I loved that she was forging her own path at finding happiness, instead of continuing to do what was "expected" all while being unhappy.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. I'm looking forward to more adventures with Sadie in future books.
I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
This is a really good read that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next in Sadie's life. It's a Christian fiction story full of life's ups and downs. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

Sadie on the Rocks is a fresh, fun, first-person tale of a freelance author who is navigating the church singles group and dating scene. Suddenly, Sadie decides to try something new--and her search for adventure lands her at an indoor climbing gym. I learned more about bouldering than I ever expected to in a piece of fiction, but it wasn't entirely off-putting.
If you like books that are light on romance and don't tie everything up in a neat bow with a proposal at the end of the book, "Sadie on the Rocks" is for you. Fans of the Suddenly Sadie Adventures will also enjoy Natasha Metzler's Women of Promise series (start with "Emma and the Reasons").
Bischof has written a new type of series about a single woman who is discovering life on her own. I enjoyed the story, and I think this is a good addition to contemporary fiction. I liked how Sadie grew through her disappointment and into her new attitude of determination and discovery.. Once you read the first book, I'm guessing you'll want to see where her story goes. I received a free copy from Netgalley. Opinions are my own.
When Sadie decides that searching for the right man isn't the only thing in life, a new world opens to her. She discovers peace as her focus changes. Lots of info about rock climbing. Different but sweet novel.
Sadie finds herself at a crossroads: in her 30s, single, with no current dating prospects, and sick of the dating game, tired of writing about the dating life that she's not part of, and wondering what else life has for her, she decides to forge a new path. She wants a job she can be proud of, and she wants to find more passion in her life, so she makes new choices and tries out a new hobby - rock climbing. Can she find purpose and direction in her life, and contentment in her current chapter?
While this book is highly introspective, and low on action, Sadie's thoughts and journey are well-developed and would be encouraging to a reader on a similar journey. She reaches out to engage others and bless them with her compassion and availability, and I loved watching her use her time and energy to develop a new passion while also looking for opportunities to engage with those around her. Her bravery in letting go of things that didn't fit with her vision and faith were inspiring, and I hope that readers can gain courage from her choices.
I give this book 3.5 stars, but I would guess that others who can relate more to Sadie would find it much more engaging. I hope that there are more Suddenly Sadie stories to follow her journey.
I received a digital copy of this book, via NetGalley, from the publisher, in exchange for my honest review.
This is an excellent easy read fiction story The story is centred on. Sadie who has tried dating but can’t at the moment find someone who matches her views about life and relationships. But also about trying to be positive about things you have control over your in life.. Finding a way to feel successful for yourself.. This is a story with a Christian slant, which I’m sure is important to the author, but this isn’t thrown in your face on every page. So no matter your thoughts about religion, this book gives everyone the chance to enjoy what is ultimately a cosy story about the ups and downs of life. Thrilled to read and acquire this title. Full review coming due to an unexpected health issue their has been a delay. I love how this book reminds me a bit of that Reese Witherspoon movie Wild. I love a book about a strong woman finding her way in the world.
I couldn’t get into this book. It just didn’t seem to go anywhere and was too slow for me. I was hoping it would be a story of female empowerment and have a storyline which went somewhere, but this just seemed a bit dull, and in all honesty a bit too Christian for my taste (constant mentions of prayer and god)
I really enjoyed this story about Sadie, a single woman trying to keep active and engage with the people around her.
A charming quick read that has encouraged me to look for other books by this author.
