"Young kitchen witch Planchette gets an incredible deal on a new house in a magical town. Turns out, there's a reason: it's haunted! After unsuccessfully attempting to get these unwanted ghosts to leave, she realizes the only thing to do is to help them with their problems. Along the way, she befriends a shy siren who hates being popular, a girl battling a curse, and a magically-challenged witch from a powerful coven."
First things first, Unfamiliar is absolutely adorable! If you liked The Tea Dragon Society or Kiki's Delivery Service, this book might be for you. Unfamiliar has:
π Found family
π A town full of witches
π Friends helping each other
π Self-discovery
Overall, Unfamiliar is an easy read to escape life a bit and get into that spooky season vibe. Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me a copy of Unfamiliar!
Another good witch-y read (I guess this is more for Halloween for me than it will be when it's published, but The Nightmare Before Christmas gets to be spooky twice a year too!)
I thought this was a fun take on the idea of witches and magical creatures (like Planchette being a kitchen witch and making food from her spells and potions which looked absolutely delicious). My favorite thing about this though was the way that what each character thought was a personal flaw, someone else thought was their strength and something to look up to.
Thank you to NetGalley for making this available in exchange for an honest review!
This was so cute! a perfect read for the Halloween season that reminded me of the cartoons I used to watch as a kid. I canβt wait to pick up a physical copy!
Wow this story is absolutely adorable and I love the Baba Yaga themes! This is perfect for a found family trope! Planchette is absolutely a gem and I love that she decides to help out her "house guests". Also Winston is hilarious and I adore them! This is a cute story and a fun read. The graphics are great and I love the colors!
