Lots of great poems with a few fairly mediocre poems sprinkled in.
If you like Wilder’s other collections u will like this one.
Most of the poetry you encounter is positive and hopeful. But it’s always the sad or meh feeling poems I end up relating to…
“if today is a bad day,
i want you to know that’s it’s okay to
pull the sheets over your head
and bury your face inside of them.
maybe screaming at the top
of your lungs into the pillows
will be your greatest act of letting go,
or maybe it will leave you with
eyes that burn and a headache that
wants to hang on for dear life,
but at least you will know
that what you’re feeling is honest.”
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. (The version I read was a finished copy.)
Golden is another collection of celestial-themed poems and art by poet Wilder Poetry. This collection is divided into four parts Magic Hour, Soul, Oracle, and
Sanctuary and focuses on the brightest star in our solar system: the Sun. Much like the celestial body that inspired its name, Golden explores the brighter, sunnier emotions life has to offer.
I'm a big fan of poetry and I read it so many times already. I can easily declared that this is my by far the most favorite poetry collections I read. So yes, I'm happy to have found this book.
Golden is absolutely beautiful, full of metaphors, yet not too full and I felt very connected to it. I really cannot describe it much different than with the word "beautiful", so I'll just leave it at that.
This book also has so many beautiful illustrations, which I loved and adored though they sometimes stretch over multiple pages; I feel like it would have been better to read a print version of the book for these if opinionated.
Highly recommended.
Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Thank you @netgalley @booksgosocialgroup @andrewsmcmeel for the #arc in exchange for a honest review.
I enjoy the feel of this book! At times though I couldn't decide if the book was one big poem or a collection of poems. Either way I enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this poetry collection. The "instagram caption" style of poetry is very popular now and while it doesn't always work for me, sometimes I think it's just what I need. Short and sweet, simple messages. This is one I'd love to have a physical copy of because the pages were full of gorgeous illustrations and I can definitely see picking it up from a coffee table every now and then to read for a few minutes.
Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing for the review copy in exchange for my honest thoughts!
“It’s no secret that I’m afraid of change, but spring and fall showed me that growing and falling is something we can all do day after day and everyone will still call it beautiful”.
thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing for proving this book through netgalley
this was my first time reading poetry by Wilder and i was absolutely entranced. will definitely be seeking out more of their work. loved the artwork featured alongside the poems as well. a beautiful pairing
4.75 star read
I really enjoyed the poems a lot. Some of them might linger a little longer inside the depths of my thoughts while some others might not. The pity of e-books is that I can’t grab my tabs and mark every little piece of poetry which I liked with a colour. That I couldn’t add my thoughts with a pencil… But I guess this is something I can do when I buy myself a physical copy, no?
Wilder poetry NEVER ceases to amaze me and hit me right in the feels. The writing speaks straight to your soul and it's such an accessible type of writing. Golden is just as good as other works by Wilder!
4/5 stars, another lovely collection from this author
I have read the sister collection of this book, which is titled Nocturnal, and I really enjoyed it. So when I saw that the author was releasing another poetry collection I immediately requested the arc. While I have to say I didn't enjoy this as much as the other collection, it was still really nice and I loved the message behind it.
The main theme was being thankful, for even just the sunrise in the morning, feeling the sun, and being alive. That's not always easy to do and this book recognizes that it takes time and practice to recognize these small things. When the healing process happens though it's beautiful, just like the sun that keeps so many things alive. I really loved the emphasis on this message, it was wonderful and something that I needed to hear when I read it.
I know lots of people complain about Instagram caption poetry, but it's my favorite form. People can say so much in so few words, and it feels a lot more relatable. That's this kind of poetry, so if you don't enjoy that definitely try something else. But if you do enjoy that, enjoy little words of affirmation, or want to try it out I recommend this to you.

I was not a fan of these poems. It may be because I'm not a fan of poetry at all, but these didn't seem to be very "deep" to me and felt like nothing more than a few random words on a page.
I absolutely love reading poetry and finding new authors. Unfortunately, this one was just okay. For me, enjoying a poetry book means that I connect to the poems, and in this collection, I only really liked and connected with a few poems. The artwork was beautiful, and that was something that I really enjoyed in this collection. The poems just kinda fell flat for me. I enjoyed the poems more in the first half than in the second half. I never really had a connection with the poems, I could appreciate them but I didn't have stronger feelings for them and that is what makes a poetry collection stand out to me. Overall, it wasn't bad but it didn't wow me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a big fan of poetry and reread my favorite poetry collections a lot, which is why I’m happy to have found another one to add to the list.
Wilder poetry’s collection “Golden” is absolutely beautiful, full of metaphors, yet not too full, and I felt very connected to it. I really cannot describe it much different than with the word “beautiful”, so I’ll just leave it at that.
I especially enjoyed the headlines/titles in the chapter “oracle”, they were very clever.
This book also has many illustrations, which I loved, though they sometimes stretch over multiple pages; I feel like it would have been better to read a print version of the book for these.
All in all a great read.
"and we both look up, knowing that it was beautiful while it lasted."
"... i will remember that the storm doesn't last forever and that there's still a reason to love the rain."
amongst many poems I read and became my favourites--as I bookmarked most of all the poems--through this collection, those specific lines hit close to home more than anything.
Golden is a collection of poems by Wilder that's come from the sun as its muse. As you read through the pages after pages, poems after poems--that's easy to read and follow--you can feel it clearly the warm, bright, and lighter mood sheering through the words. This is my first read of the author, and I didn't expect that I can feel the sudden positivity and light emotions evoked by reading this. The illustrations/art imagery of natures also makes me feel some kind of secureness and comfy. This has calming and lighten up my mood, and I'll gladly pick it up again and agai n to get me through bad days.
Thanks NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to accessing the e-ARC!
This is a truly beautiful book of poetry. It is the kind of work that speaks to the soul, and there are so many pages I would (and will) bookmark in a physical book. It's also aesthetically beautiful as there are wonderful drawings covering the pages. Truly wonderful. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title!
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!
This collection of poetry was very easy to read, the words flow effortlessly and have so much meaning.
I had many poems stick out to me, one of them being on page 85. (I am not going to disclose this poem because this book has not been published yet.)
The artwork in the book was gorgeous and unique as well. <3
I’m not usually a fan of poetry, but this offering has me reconsidering my opinions. “Golden” coaxed me in with crisp and observant prose of love and loss, supported by the elegant layout, design and pace. A sublime read.
I was so excited when I found out that Wilder was writing another poetry book, and this poetry collection did not disappoint. If you've read Nocturnal then you will notice that Golden is a bit more happier and less dark than Nocturnal. As with most collections of poetry, there were a few that I gravitated towards and a few that I couldn't relate to. I also loved that the book included artwork by Henri Rousseau. I think the artwork matched the poems.
I really do like poems and poetry but i barley read a whole book dedicated to poetry but I must say that I really liked this one. There were so many themes (Love, self-love, forgiveness, grief, healing and others) that were really inspiring and I did Event wrote some of them down into a book full where i collect poetry that affected and inspired me.
Especially the poetry regarding love were gorgeous.
I think everyone will find at least one to two quotes that will affect them and therefore the book is quite for everyone.
