The blurb for this title sounded great and I was really looking to reading it.
Unfortunately all the fun of this one was in the blurb.
I gave up at 19% because I was...bored. I just didn't care about the characters or what happened next.
I'm unable to recommend this title.
This is the second book in the Hideaway Harbor series and it can be read as a stand-alone. I really enjoyed the first book, Accidentally Perfect, and was happy to revisit the small coastal town of Blink, Maine. It was nice to see characters from the first book, but the stories don't intertwine.
Jack is a famous actor who just seems to be going through the motions. He's doing what he's supposed to do to stay famous and get good parts, and he isn't really feeling it. And then his new assistant accidentally tags Cassidy (a local handy woman in Blink, ME) in a post that makes it seem like they're dating (mistaken ig handle). The paparazzi track her down. He flies across the country to meet her and make it right (unannounced), and that's where the story begins. It's an opposites attract, fake dating, forced proximity, slow burn, small town, celebrity romance. There are also great friends and community members and lots of fun scenes. I definitely recommend picking it up!
Thanks to the publisher for a copy. all opinions are my own.
The accidental insta tag meet cute between Blinks miss fix it, Cassidy and Hollywood star Jack leading to a hallmark rom com complete with meddling friends and ake dating turned real feelings.
I didn't realize when initially requesting this book that it was the second in the series and with all the recurring characters and small town quirkiness, I highly recommend reading the two in order. It was so fun to return to the small town in Maine again, with this novel focusing on Cassidy's story and the community the hideaway harbor series has created. We saw follow up glimpses from the first book that helped rather than distract the plot for this book. Jack and Cassidy's story was full of cute heartwarming moments but it felt like there was missing chemistry. While this was a completely closed door romance, I was hoping for at least some butterflies before the fade to black but overall this book (and the series) are the perfect cute and light hearted small town romcom, perfect for a spring afternoon!
Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Publishing LLC for the ARC in exchange for my review!
This is a cute fake dating romance. A Hollywood heartthrob named Jack needs to get away, so he goes to a house in a remote town in Maine that belongs to one of his friends. His P/R team is setting up a fake dating scheme with a Hollywood starlet.
Unfortunately, instead of tagging the Cassidy James the starlet, his assistant tags a different Cassidy James, a woman with who lives a quiet life in Maine.
Jack needs to convince her to fake date him for two weeks. After they spend time together, they find themselves dating for real.
I liked this charming easy to read book, 4 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
I have yet to read a book from Marissa that I didn't love. The only off thing with this one wasn't the hero/heroine saying something to their partner that made me cry, It was Roger, gifting the house to Cassidy that made me tear up and ugly cry. I really enjoyed that we were taken back to Blink, Maine. This novel can easily be a standalone, but after falling in love with the residents (and Lillian and Caleb) in Accidentally Perfect, I was so happy to continue everyone's story. Marissa writes characters that you want to sit on a boat dock with and sip lemonade.
"I'm coming for you, babe." A simple comment from a famous movie star lands on the wrong instagram account and sets off a tidal wave effect. Jack Winston, famous action movie star, is living what his fans assume is the dream life in California. Only he knows he's starting to burn out and needs something to rejuvenate him. His assistant quotes one of his famous lines on what was supposed to be his sister's account, only it's not, it belongs to Cassidy James, a home renovator who's world gets turned upside down. Cassidy is busy filming one of her youtube clips for her few home reno fans when all of a sudden her account starts to rack up followers. The girl from a small town in Maine is caught in a paparazzi nightmare when she becomes the girlfriend of Jack Winston. Jack's publicity team tries to capitalize on the moment by arranging a fake relationship between small town girl and big movie star but soon real sparks fly between Cassidy and Jack. Can they outlast the NDA and the press or will they crack under the pressure?
Nerdy and shy girl meets famous and attractive man in this romance novel. Cassidy has never left her small town of Blink and was still nursing her high school crush on Tristan. Until she’s accidentally tagged in Jack’s IG post that was meant for his sister, she lived an insular and comfortable life. To make things right, Jack and entourage go to visit her in Blink with a plan to make things right. Until their feelings make the plan fall apart. It’s cute, easy to read and full of good secondary characters that round out the story well. It’s book 2 in the series but you certainly don’t need to read book 1 to enjoy this one. Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled for the arc.
So I suppose this book just wasn't for me. This book is a small town romance, but I simply couldn't find the romance, the chemistry! The book also dragged quite a lot.
I have picked up a number of Marissa Clarke's books recently and Accidentally Famous is my new favorite from her!
I liked Jack and Cassidy, and I was curious how the star and small-town girl would make it work. They came from two very different, but it was nice seeing how they connected the more time they spent together.
The story moved at a good pace and Marissa' writing is engaging and easy to read. I liked, too, that there's not heavy angst, and it is a sweet, entertaining read
This is the second book in the series, but can be read as a standalone. However, I definitely recommend checking out the first book and some of Marissa's other series!
Accidentally Famous by Marissa Clarke is a slow, sweet and romantic novel.
It is about two people from completely different worlds and how they came to have their happy ending.
I liked the premise where movie star finds a next door girl and falls for her and that is exactly what I got.
I was invested in the characters, both of them, they were nice, honest, caring people. The side characters played a big role in making this book so lovely.
It's very clean book, no steam, no spice, there are only few scenes with kisses and it doesn't go further than that.
This is a nice, clean romantic comedy with a very likeable characters.
Favorite Quotes:
I hope Caleb is taking notes because that look scores an eleven out of ten on the panty-melt-o-meter...
We’ll know when Marion gets here, count on it. There’ll be signs of her arrival like in one of those movies where the seas part, or the heavens go black, or the sky fills with locusts or birds, or dragons, or some other doomsday pestilence.
The woman not only had the world’s most spectacular resting-bitch-face, she’d perfected the look-down-her-nose technique that rendered the recipient powerless. “Imagine her wearing a clown nose,” Jack whispered in Cassidy’s ear. “Or a mud mask. Or pink hair rollers. Or better yet, all three at once.”
My Review:
This was a fun and breezy tale that was laced together with clever wit, endearing and original characters, and amusing and engaging storylines. The storylines were easy to follow, well-paced, and humorously detailed with a minimum of angst and conflict. I adored it! I am looking forward to more of this well-plotted and entertaining small-town series.
When Hollywood action star Jack Winston accidently tags Cassidy James on Instagram, it turns her quiet life in Blink, Maine upside down. Instead of just ignoring the gaffe, Jack’s publicist Marion decides to lean into it. Jack and his entourage go to Blink, and he finds he likes the small quirky town and Cassidy. The original plan was for them to have a fake romance and then break up and Jack will leave and the press will leave Cassidy alone. Since this is a small-town romance, you know that Jack and Cassidy end up together. This was a little too cutesy for me and I don’t feel like they really spent enough time together to fall in love. And I missed the romance. Outside of a few kisses, nothing else was there, only alluded to.
ACCIDENTALLY FAMOUS By Marissa Clarke
Jack Winston is Hollywood's biggest action hero. A mis-tag on social media by his PA gets all the focus on small town girl Cassidy as his new flame.

A sweet clean romance between a Hollywood celebrity, Jack and a small town girl, Cassidy. With a social media mixup, Jack has arrived in Blink to try and make things better for Cassidy. Jack's PR crew has come up with the idea of a fake girlfriend for two weeks. As their friendship develops they find they have common interests, but will they be able to find their HEA.
A sweet read that I thoroughly enjoyed, loved Jack and Cassidy. A fun sweet town. This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. i read through my kindle unlimited.
A cute lighthearted small-town fake dating romance with a famous movie star and a normal girl that loves home renovations.
This is low-angst and a really sweet story about Jack and Cassidy.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a cute story!
I really enjoyed the humorous moments.
Loved the relationship between Cassidy and Jack…..
I’m a sucker for small town romance books so this was a perfect read for me.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a cute mix-up romance filled with adorable moments. When Jack's assistant accidentally tags a random stranger instead of his sister with a cheesy one liner, the press goes nuts. The track down Cassidy in her small town and hound her about her secret relationship with the movie star. As if that wasn't bad enough, Jack and his team decide to pay a visit to Blink, Maine in order to not only talk to Cassidy about what's going on, but to hopefully work the mistake in their favor... by continuing the charade that they are a couple. I mean, what could go wrong?
I really liked the small town girl and the big movie star angle. It wasn't a by chance encounter on the street. It really was a PR mistake that started the whole mess. Then when Jack found out what had happened, he got curious as to who his assistant has actually tagged, and then found her life intriguing. It's not every day you come across a woman who has a youtube channel showing you how to renovate an old historical house. As for Cassidy, she's not at all impressed with Jack. His team caused a chaotic mess in her hometown and it has stressed her out beyond belief. However, when she's posed with the option to keep the charade going in order to boost her business and put Jack in a positive spotlight. Two weeks should be easy but things get a little complicated when feelings get caught.
Another thing that I liked about this story was the mini side stories taking place. It gave the book a more well-rounded feel. I also liked that even though this is the second book in the series, I never once felt like it was part of a series, or that I was missing something. Everything is nicely laid out in this story for any new readers, and I really appreciated it.
Now one thing that I did have a problem with was the cliche conflict that takes place in the book. I saw it a mile away, since it's overdone, and I was very disappointed in Cassidy for falling for it and playing along. It's one of those, if you talked it out like adults, none of it would have happened.
If you're in the market for a cute romance involving a movie star and a small town girl, then give this one a read. It has a good mix of characters to keep you entertained throughout the story.
I completely loved the characters, I love the setting, and I loved this story. It was short and sweet, but absolutely delivers a sweet romance.
An accidental tagging has a whole pile of paparazzi showing up in small town of Blink, Maine to follow actor Jack Winton to where they believe he's got his mystery girlfriend. But things go awry when Cassidy James, the tagged girlfriend must deal with a fake relationship and her business which is now booming thanks to the mix up.
This was a very sweet, low angst sort of contemporary romance. Jack has a heart of gold and loves small town life. Cassidy likes Jack and the extra work her fake relationship has generated. So it's all good, clean, sweet fun. Sometimes I'm just looking for something that doesn't have a huge amount of drama, and this one fit that nicely.
Jack and Cassidy are adorable together and even their conflict makes sense and is resolved quickly. While their chemistry isn't a huge bubbling caldron of emotion, they are both looking for something they find in each other and I liked that about it.
Overall, an entertaining, low conflict, low steam contemporary romance.
