A murder in Seattle and Reece, an empath, is charged with finding the killer. It sounded Batman to me, but someone else said X-Men. I got an excerpt so my review is short. It’s catchy, book 1 of a new series, and based in my home city. Can’t wait to read more!
Please refer to my review of the full book! In short, I loved this book and would recommend! It was entertaining, funny, and action-packed!
I was of two minds about checking this out, because I was underwhelmed by the first book in the author's Magic in Manhattan series, but Therin has me hooked -- the ominous hints about Reece's past, the hostility to empaths & the prospect of legislation curtailing their participation in civil society, and of course the Dead Man. Yes, I want very much to find out What Happens Next, and I'll be requesting the ARC of the whole book. 4.5 stars so far.
this was an engaging start! looking forward to the rest. the premise is really intriguing and this genre is right up my alley.
Thank you Netgalley and Allie Therin for the preview of Liar city.
It includes the first the five chapters of the book. I liked the writing style and definitely want to read the whole book.
Can't wait
PLEASE SIR MAY I HAVE SOME MORE JFJSFJDJDJDJ I'M ALREADY SO INTRIGUED BY THIS WORLD AND THESE CHARACTERS JUST 10/10 OVERALL
I love Allie Therin's Magic in Manhattan series and spinoff, and this preview promises a similar setup of mystery and empaths, only set in present day Seattle rather than 1920s New York and London. Since it's set in modern times everything seems a bit more gritty. There are cell phones, which really change a story, I've found. That ability to be instantly connected to someone else, no matter where they are. It opens a lot of possibilities but also places limitations on plot.
I connected instantly with Reece and with Jamey and the secondary characters surrounding them. I was also immediately drawn into the mystery and the police investigation setup. I love the way Allie Therin writes. Everything flows so nicely, and it's so easy to get wrapped up in the story and the characters.
I can't wait to read the rest of the story! I don't usually like contemporary stories or police procedurals, but this is clearly an exception.
*Thanks to NetGalley and Carina Adores for providing a preview of the e-arc for review.
