This novella is a fun continuation to Sorcery of Thorns. I love the main trio's (Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Silas) dynamic after this novella I love them more.
Margaret Rogerson is masterful in writing the atmosphere, the dynamics and vibes of the story. It continues a few months after the first book with a plot that focuses on within the manor. The manor plays a big part in this novella, as a character, that is affected by a mysterious ailment as it is behaving against Nathaniel. The romance is still gives that heart pumping and kicking-my-feet vibe, even though the main romance is already established. I will never get tired of Nathaniel and Elizabeth's attraction for each other, their energy is just infectious.
I do believe Maragaret Rogerson is hinting at a new novel within this world so I think this will not be the end of our main trio. Can't wait to read more!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
did we need this book? nope! but was it worth it? yep! it was so cute and so much fluff
do I think the story was needed? no but i enjoyed it nonetheless. I love a good fluff based romance so this was fun
I am so in love with this world and these characters... I really hope that this isn't the end of them.
While this novella doesn't contain nearly as much excitement as Sorcery of Thorns, I still devoured it with gusto and enjoyed myself all the way through. Nathaniel is sassy as always, Elisabeth the gallant hero, and Silas stands in the wings with his calm and creepy demeanor. It's the characters that have made these books great.
Margaret Rogerson is one of my auto-buy authors, so I'm always excited to read anything that she comes out with!
This was a cute little novella! I loved being able to see the characters again! It felt like a warm hug from the characters.
I loved travelling back to this world. This book is just as enthralling at the first! I adored this story!
I think novellas just aren't totally for me. This was cute and I liked seeing a glimpse back into Nathaniel and Elisabeth's life, but I was left wanting more!! I wish we could've just gotten a full length sequel. I needed more meat in the plot. But it was short and cute and if that's your expectation going in, I think you will enjoy this!
Loved this novella and my only complaint is that it was too short! As I finished the story, I could not help but hope that Rogerson will some day tell Silas" stry. THe novella neatly tied up the romance between between Elizabeth and Nathaniel.
Margaret Rogerson is at it again with Mysteries of Thorn Manor. Going back to the world of Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas was exciting and charm-filled.
I still have yet to read a novel by Rogerson that I haven't loved.
4.5/5
I was so excited to find out that there'd be a novella. I thought the plot was a little random, but it made for a super cute story filled with romantic moments and action and prime banter 😍 I was totally here for the focus on Nathaniel and Elisabeth's relationship. The suit of armor part was great 😂 I also loved learning more about Silas, and seeing his relationship with Elisabeth grow. Overall, such a fun story!
I loved this little book! It was so nice to be able to revisit these characters and this world. The story was very sweet and fun, and I only wish that it was longer!
This novella was absolutely adorable! I loved all of the cute Nathaniel, Elisabeth and Silas moments we got, and it had really interesting magical elements that could be explored without the stress of needing to save the world (again). It was a short and sweet plot that allowed us to go back into the world and get another glimpse at the lives of the characters we love; Margaret Rogerson’s prose and world-building continues to be absolutely delightful. And the epilogue in Silas’ perspective was so much fun to include!
ARC Review:
I missed Elisabeth, Nathaniel and Silas so much and I was so happy to receive an e-ARC from Simon and Schuster Canada to read their novella.
First page starts off with romantic lighthearted banter and it made me so happy for them. Their flirting and domestic life continued throughout the novella and I did not get tired of it at all, I love seeing them happy and they deserve it.
Elisabeth remains down to earth, brave, passionate and curious. Her strong sense of morals and in doing the right thing perseveres and is highly admirable. Nathaniel continues to be a perfect mixture of ancient wisdom combined with childlike carefree personality. Him openly flirting was almost too hot for me to handle, it had me giggling and fanning myself. We learn a lot more about Silas and I enjoyed it. He’s complex and morally grey (he is a demon after all). He talks about his past and motives. He shows feelings in his own special way and empathy and love.
Grimoires (Aka magical books) were featured again and as a book lover it was just as magical and lovely as the first time around. They have personalities, illnesses, conflicts and secrets.
Similar to the first book, the imagery is absolutely vivid and stunning. Even a simple description of a taper candle and dust was made to be interesting and enchanting.
I noticed quite a few metaphors/similes along the way.
There are a few funny parts, fantasy type humour that is more of a chuckle instead of a guffaw, I really enjoyed how it added to the light hearted tone. The plot was way more light than the first book and the overall tone was more fun. Their conflict and problems are small scale but somehow still exciting. The epilogue managed to deliver a plot twist in such a short novella that I was pleasantly surprised about. So happy and satisfied with how everything tied up!
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon&Schuster Canada for a copy of this ARC.
Mysteries of Thorn Manor was a delightful short sequel to Sorcery of Thorns. It definitely felt like fan service for the most part, though it did a great job of giving a little bit more backstory to the house itself and built upon SIlas's character a little bit more. Overall, a good book that fans of Sorcery of Thorns should pick up, if for no other reason than to briefly return to Margaret Rogerson's stunning crafted world.
I absolutely loved Sorcery of Thorns back when it came out, and was so excited that we were getting a little bit more of these characters because one book just wasn't enough! it was great getting to see what the characters were up to!
Margaret Rogerson does it again. First Sorcery of Thorns and now this. Amazing, immaculate. Give me another in my hands immediately.
In this sequel to Sorcery of Thorns, Nathaniel and Elisabeth are living together at Thorn Manor. They wake up one morning to find the house covered in vines that can’t be removed. As Nathaniel and Elisabeth get closer, the house’s wards misbehave and trap them inside along with Mercy, the new maid, and Silas, their demon companion. They have to figure out how to fix the house before the Midwinter Ball, which they’re supposed to host in 10 days.
It’s been 3 years since I read Sorcery of Thorns, and I was excited to return to this world in this novella. I really liked that this was a complete short story that gave a glimpse into the lives of these characters after their main story. I’ve read other novellas that follow a series or complete story that don’t have a real or interesting plot. The plot in this story was fun and mysterious, which made me excited to read it.
Mysteries of Thorn Manor is a great novella!
Thank you Simon and Schuster Canada for providing a digital copy of this book.
This was such a cute jump back into the wonderful world of Elisabeth, Nathaniel and Silas.
While it was super fun to read, it did feel more like an epilogue than a short story. There was more focus on the romance than anything else, and I did love the romance, but I think that there could’ve been a little bit more about the rest of the characters and world after everything that happened at the end of Sorcery of Thorns.
The ending felt a little bit rushed, and also very un-exciting. I think having it end with a bit more of a bang would’ve made it feel more like a proper bookend to the story. But nonetheless, it was still very sweet, and I loved the extra ending with Silas.
Thank you to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Canada and the author for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
What a fabulous novella! This story was intoxicating, I absolutely loved it. It was filled with magic and so much charm, that I never wanted it to end.
Nathaniel and Elisabeth’s relationship is so perfect. I love their interactions and the way they react with one another. They are both high up on my favourite book characters ever list with their great personalities.
Also, I can’t forget about Silas. What an amazing character, I want to learn so much more about him!
Margaret Rogerson has spun a fantastical courtship in Mysteries of Thorn Manor. Sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn has brought his beloved Elizabeth Scrivener to his Thorn Manor. Their demon companion Silas has returned and the magical manor is insisting on a formal declaration and action of courtship before the couple can leave the manor. Simply magical all the way through. Great fun to read.
