I loved getting a chance to dive back into the Sorcery of Thorns world. This book made me think of fan-fiction in that it isn't truly a book two, more a little exploration in this world without a whole huge adventure (like a side quest). Super cozy and cute.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for providing a copy of this eARC for review.
This was a great addition to the original novel. I loved this world. (Books that are sentient? Warrior librarian? Yes, please!) Nathanial and Elisabeth are adorable, and I love how honestly Elisabeth describes the feeling of love. I desperately wanted more of Silas, and I got a small dose of that. Based on how we leave off, I'm hopeful that we will have more stories in this universe and that we'll see Silas again. He's by far my favourite character. I also really enjoyed seeing the development Mercy goes through. She's a courageous character, given her situation in the first book, then what she winds up dealing with in the second. I also love absolutely anything that references fairytales, and the idea that they're a grimoire is incredibly fun to me.
A very adorable follow up to Sorcery of Thorns. I loved getting to revisit Elisabeth, Nathaniel and Silas again. If Margaret Rogerson ever writes anything more set in this world I will be ecstatic.
Well, I’ve read Sorcery of Thorns more times than I can count, so when I learned that there was going to be a novella that includes all my favourites and more, how could I not devour that book as well? We are thrown back into this world of magic and sorcery as Elisabeth, Nathanial, Silas, and our loveable house staff, Mercy as they, try to pick up their lives after the conclusion of the book. But as always, magic doesn’t always work how we want it to, and the great Thorn Manor has taken a turn to trap its inhabitants inside…with a few issues that they have to battle.
I absolutely LOVED this additional add-on to a book that I adore. God help his soul, Nathanial is just a disaster cinnamon roll, and I love him for that. If it weren’t for Elisabeth to keep him on track, I’m pretty sure a book would eat him or something tbh. Silas, my love, is utter perfection. Nuff said.
With how this ended, I’m holding out hopes for another book…maybeeeeee? There was just so much about this that was fun and sad all at the same time; it’ll have you laughing along with the characters and their shenanigans.
This novella was such a treat! We’re back in the world of Sorcery of Thorns with three familiar residents of Thorn Manor, plus a new addition. The house is acting up in destructive ways, and Nathaniel and Elizabeth better find out why before it rips itself apart with them locked inside.
There is so much comfort to this world, despite it’s chaotic magic and actual demons. (Truly, Silas is my favourite character of this world - a posh, smartly dressed demon who has a gooey centre, at least for Nathaniel and Elizabeth.)
The hidden rooms, cursed objects, and feral grimoires keep the story bouncing along at a steady pace, while I wished time would slow down so it wouldn’t be over as quickly!
I know that I’m just thrilled to have more than one instalment of this story, but I would still take a bunch more. Margaret Rogerson, take my money.
Such a delight to return to the world of Elizabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas! A cozy and domestic read filled with heartwarming scenes and room for perhaps a book 3?
Welcome back to the world of Sorcery of Thorns, where grimoires talk back and magic runs rampant. The cover of Sorcery of Thorns was an exceptional one and Mysteries of Thorn Manor follows that trend with another fantastic cover. I can’t wait to add this one to my collection and that should tell you right away how much I enjoyed this book.
Mysteries of Thorn Manor is a tasty little morsel of a book that was a delight to read. It picks up after the events of Sorcery of Thorns and I loved that we got to see Elisabeth and Nathaniel’s relationship evolve along with the chaos of magical mishaps.
I had a lot of fun reading it and found myself laughing out loud at some of the delightful scenes. This book was in equal measures packed with magic, humor, insight, deep emotions, and perhaps a glimpse into the making of the next book? 😉
Book Dragons, make sure you grab this book tomorrow when it’s published. It’s so worth it and I can guarantee you’ll have a blast reading it.
Thank you so much to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for granting me access to a digital e-ARC of this to read and review.

This novella is a quick little bite-sized continuation of the Sorcery of Thorns series - we back following Elizabeth, Nathaniel and Silas (YAY! HE’S BACK!) as they try to unlock the puzzle of why Thorn Manor is acting so temperamental lately.
.
What I liked:
- I am so happy it is confirmed that Silas is back. The first book ended ambiguously and I am so happy it is confirmed.. He is by far my favourite character.
- I loved that Rogerson gives the grimoires distinct personalities . The idea that books are getting depressed because they haven’t been read or that old and new books are fighting because of differing ideologies was wonderfully done.
- The humour in this one was better than the first. This novella is a wonderful bite sized chunk of a read to put you in a good mood and give you a few laughs.
- I enjoyed the ending - Silas’ role in the main “mystery” of the book was so hilarious and the cliffhanger that strongly suggest more books are forthcoming is exciting.
.
What I wasn’t crazy about:
- I thought this would be a genuine mystery! It didn't really have much of a suspenseful mystery element - it was figured out pretty quickly what was happening I was a bit thrown off when it ended up being about “true love” - I love romance as much as the next person but the obsession with “mates” and “true love” and only one person for you in YA literature is not my favourite.
- I loved that Elizabeth got a set of armour and I genuinely thought the story was going to turn tropes on its head and make her the knight in shining armour wooing a damsel (being Nathaniel) instead of Nathaniel having to court Elizabeth. And then that didn’t happen and I was very sad.
.
Overall a cute quick read to sate people who enjoyed the first book. And hopefully opens up the possibility for more in the series! 3.5/5 Stars.
This was such a great novella!
If you liked Sorcery of Thorns and want more of your fave characters, classic Nathaniel one liners, romance and magic then this is for you ☺️.
Thank you so much Simon and Schuster and NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review!
4.25/5⭐️
First off, let me say that I love Margaret Rogerson's books and I thought Sorcery of Thorns was fantastic, so it should come as no surprise that I also loved Mysteries of Thorn Manor.
This novella picks up a few months after the last book left off, and immediately answers the question of whether or not Silas came back at the end of the last book. I loved the characterization of Elizabeth and Nathaniel, and I loved the friendship developing with Silas. As always, Rogerson's characters are beautifully well-rounded and interesting to read about.
I enjoyed the quest plot (always a sucker for a good quest) but I will say that I am lukewarm on the whole "wedding" thing. I know it's a fantasy world but Elizabeth comes from a culture where women are more or less equal and able to hold important positions of power so...why marry at 17? Like I said, I enjoyed the quest, but I wasn't sold on the ending. I would have preferred a solution that involved changing the wards but maybe this is setting us up for a second book.
I would totally be here for a second book.
This was a fun add-on story to Sorcery of Thorns. We got to see what our favourite characters were up to after the ending of the original and see how things have changed. It was a very fast-paced adventure and mystery that developed our main relationship between Elizabeth and Nathaniel while giving us cameos from other people we met in the first book. I would have liked to have seen just a little more plot to this, but it was a novella afterall. Overall, it was a fun little novella.
4.5⭐️
I LOVED THIS!! Mysteries of Thorn Manor are the events that take place shortly after Sorcery of Thorns, and this book was everything you could want out of a novella, and the wished for additional time with Elisabeth, Nathaniel and Silas.
Nathaniel and Elisabeth are adorable; this novella showed the fluffy, romantic sides of them, while still maintaining being a clean YA. I loved the relationships between all of them, including Mercy, and Silas is the best demon you could ask for. I love Silas so fricking much!
The only thing holding this back from being a 5 star read for me was the slight lack of plot, as I wish there had been a more gripping conflict take place, rather than the impossible tasks that were quite possible in the end.
Despite that, this book was such a sweet and magical read, and fulfilled my craving of more time with the characters after what was originally a standalone novel. If you loved Sorcery of Thorns, you need this book!!

Okay, so I read Sorcery of Thorns when it first came out and LOVED IT! It was really nice being back in that world and seeing all the characters again! This was such a great novella and hopefully we get to see more? Fingers crossed!
4/5 stars!!
Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!
This novella was soo cute!! The extended epilogue I didn't know I needed. I got to read this as an eARC through NetGalley and I'm so glad I did! This novella wraps a lot of things up but also kind of leaves some other things open? Makes me wonder if there will be another book... if there will be I'm 1000% reading it! Love this world and all the characters so much.
4.5 fluffy stars, because I love them all so much. 🥰
Mysteries of Thorn Manor takes place a few months after the end of Sorcery of Thorns. Elisabeth and Nathaniel are living a mostly quiet and mundane life in the manor, until the day they wake up to the manor having barricaded itself against the outside world. No one can come in or leave the manor, and things only seem to get worse when violent topiaries and deadly winds get thrown into the mix. Elisabeth and Nathaniel must figure out why the manor reacted this way, and how to fix it before somebody gets hurt.
This novella focuses more on the romance between Elisabeth and Nathaniel, and their everyday life at the Thorn manor, now that Ashcroft is no longer a threat. I liked that it showed us more about Elisabeth and Nathaniel’s relationship since the romance was secondary in the first book, and it was adorable to see them both fall even more in love with each other and try to figure out where to go from there. Elisabeth and Nathaniel are simply adorable together, they tease each other and are authentic, and they also have each other’s back no matter what. It’s a healthy and strong relationship that I hope to see more of in a second book maybe? (fingers crossed)
The plot is secondary in this novella, it’s all about cuteness, funny moments, and an overall heartwarming feeling. It was such a nice read, and it was amazing to be back in the world of Sorcery of Thorns. Elisabeth is still driven, headstrong, and a menace most days, Nathaniel is still cocky and cute at the same time, and the manor’s household is even expanding in this novella, so there are more characters to meet.
I am usually very picky when it comes to novellas because I always feel that the plot is too weak and I am left a little unsatisfied, but I have to say that while the plot is simplistic here, I was just so happy to see more of Nathaniel, Elisabeth, and Silas and it was just so wholesome, that I am not even complaining about the short length!
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC.
I had no doubt in my mind I was going to adore this story. Margaret Rogerson has been an author who constantly enchants me and pulls me into her work, and Sorcery of Thorns carved out this wonderful, cozy place in my heart. Coming back to this world was a delight, and this novella does not disappoint.
It's fast-paced, romantic, adventerous, and charming. It has the vibes of a cozy fantasy and the stakes feel like what I would expect for a work like this.
Elisabeth remains headstrong and clever. Nathaniel is a riot, all wit and charm and good intentions, and Silas... oh, Silas. Silas remains one of my favourite characters in YA fantasy and there are moments in this story that made my heart swell and break and pick itself up off the floor. Margaret Rogerson gives her characters so much life and so much to their personalities that you can't help but fall in love with them.
I loved the pace of this. It didn't need to build itself up to any dramatics or make a deeper plot. It exists to bridge the story into something calmer. Something between characters first and foremost and in this story that worked. It brought a warmth into their lives, exploring the themes left at the end of Sorcery of Thorns and giving us a bit of closure to the conclusion of Silas's return while also opening up doors for this world and our cast.
It was fun and witty and packed full of enjoyment. I could honestly read her works for an enternity and never be bored. There is such a brilliance to her writing that often leaves me content, satisfied, and feeling refreshed. I look forward to more works, and with that ending I'd be surprised if this is the last we see of our three troublemakers and their fantastical world of magic and secrets. We are left with questions that feel reasonable - not a cliffhanger with the high stakes drama but with the nagging question of what does the future hold. Where will we see them in a year? In ten? In fifty?
Mysteries of Thorn Manor welcomes you home... and it's here to stay.
This was a treat to read! I loved revisiting the world and characters of Sorcery of Thorns. I thought the premise of this novella was super cute, and I liked the way the magic was entwined with the plot. This was perfect!
Oh my gosh, diving back into this world was SO MUCH FUN and now I definitely want more!!! I don’t know if this was supposed to be a little dangle of a carrot to keep us occupied while waiting for the next book, but I cannot WAIT to read it!!!
It was really nice that this was mainly focused on Elisabeth, Nathaniel, Mercy and Silas. And, like Elisabeth, I cannot help but love the demon. I keep reminding myself he is not human and that his mind does not work the same way, and I’m sure at some point he will disappoint and Betty, but I really hope not!
This book made me laugh and the conversation is so witty at times. I love the sarcasm and dry humour. And the Manor really came into itself haha.
If you loved A Sorcery of Thorns, be sure to pick this one up! You don’t want to miss out on this in between novella!

…which is that ‘Mysteries of Thorn Manor’ was absolutely adorable!
Now, that said, I would not recommend this to anyone who has not read ‘Sorcery of Thorns’ first. The story takes for granted that you know the characters and understand the world and magic system as established in the original novel—and if you do not? I dare say much of the humour will careen right over your head, and the sentimental moments prove less impactful, and that you may just find yourself dazed and confuzzled.
But if you enjoyed the original novel and are looking for an extra fix of Nathaniel, Elisabeth and/or Silas? This will definitely satisfy your craving (especially if you have a sweet tooth). The author herself describes this as arguably fanfic adjacent, and I think that is fair, but I also found that I, personally, was here for every moment! It was lovely and precious and everything my sappy little heart imagined following the open ending of ‘Sorcery of Thorns’ (which I should also note I did not hate). And if she perhaps decided to keep dipping her pen into this inkwell, I absolutely would not object!
Easy-peasy: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This novella was just everything. I really enjoyed getting to experience these characters in calmer atmosphere and just in their daily life with a mild threat per se. Experiencing a little more depth of the different characters relationships was my favourite part ❤️ this truly is a book that i would revisit just when i miss the characters because it’s too sweet.
