The Girl in the River is book 7 in the Detective Ellie Reeves Series by Rita Herron
I have one thing to say if Rita Herron ever stops writing this series I'm going to be so pissed!
I've read this since book one, I love Detective Ellie Reeves and this is one of those that I actually truly do love.
Another great addition to the Ellie Reeves series.
When Ellie's friend Mia turns up missing just hours before her wedding Ellie stats searching.
Searching the place from top to bottom, Ellie reaches the riverbank to discover someone is dead, floating beside a white veil.
As Ellie stomach stats to roll she holds her breath and turns the body over.
To discover it belongs to Tori, Mia’s bridesmaid, with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Close to the murder scene, Ellie finds something strange and Mia's engagement ring.
Now time stops as Ellie starts the search to find her friend before it’s too late.
But when forensics come back, the search takes a wild turn.
DNA is showing that Mia was actually Jesse Habersham, a woman who went missing five years ago.
Ellie is certain that Mia was running from someone. So did her past finally catch up with her?
Can she uncover the truth before something bad happens to her friend?
And when danger comes close to Pixie, Mia's daughter can Ellie save her?
The Girl in the River is a bombshell. A phenom crime thriller.
A super tense ride from the very beginning.
Well written and atmospheric read that hooked me immediately. I started to read slowly because I didn't want it to end so soon.
Written at a good pace and a very cleverly thought through plot.
Herron is the best at what she does and she does it so well!
Bringing us an excellent police procedural.
Start this series today! You will not regret it!
It's worth it alone for the gritty world the author has built and how she keeps flushing out these characters.
I read in one sitting and kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding.
Twisty, fast paced and atmospheric.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Bookouture,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this eARC!
Detective Ellie Reeves investigates the kidnapping of her friend Mia from her wedding.
She quickly realizes Mia is not who she thought she was. Many secrets and lies come to surface in the seventh edition of this great mystery series.
Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
Another great addition in this fantastic series….There's something about the way the author writes that makes the words flow easily, and the pages turn themselves!
A pitch perfect romantic thriller! . . . This author is an absolute master of suspense!
So excited to read this book. We arrive back in Crooked Creek for Detective Ellie book #7. Ellie is at a friends wedding, but of course things don’t go as planned. The bride and her maid of honour go missing as the ceremony is to start. This is a solid addition to this series. Love seeing Ellie and Derrick explore their relationship and work together to try and find Ellie’s friend before it’s too late.
Highly recommend this series, a speedy good read.
Ellie , Cord and Derrick are back and book #7 is SOOO good!! Ellie is at her friend Mia's wedding and disappears before going down the aisle. Did Mia have cold feet or is something else much more sinister going on? Ellie is on the search to find Mia and uncovers so much more then just her friend missing. What was Mia hiding and why? What is going on in the town of Red River Rock? I have loved every book in this series and this book is actually my favorite it had so much mystery and suspense. I look forward to the next book in this series.
Great book and series!! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, even had romance and great police work! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my! I highly recommend reading this book and series! They're well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This non stop action packed story is a great series edition. Detective Ellie Reeves is attending her new friends wedding when the unthinkable happens the bride disappears. It’s a scramble for Elli to find her before it’s to late. As she’s following leads she stumbles upon way more than she bargained for.
“I heard him say she was more beautiful than any flowers we carried,” Mrs. Hinton said with a note of wistfulness.
Meanwhile Derik is called away more and more. I’m still processing how I feel about that. The ending has me really looking forward to the next book and what that could mean.
So, what was originally on my schedule for today? Who cares, I was in a reading zone, nothing was tearing me away from this book, literally could not put it down!
Book 7 and still going strong!!
I will say it yet again, another book in the series and if you are fan like me, this book delivers everything that has had you coming back every time the next book is released or managing to get it early via an ARC.
In The Girl in the River, Rita weaves a great story as Ellie once again races to unravel a web of lies, coverups and secrets, with some great twists, one I did not see coming, but in the end, love wins.
There are also some interesting developments on the relationships of the characters and again, had me thinking are you team Derek? Or team Cord? The ending will leave you wondering, who will Ellie end up with in the end?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Detective Ellie Reeves really has her hands full in this fast paced, action filled book. I could not stop reading it! The twists and turns just keep coming as she races to find her friend Mia before it’s too late. The love triangle between Ellie, Derrick and Cord is coming to a head and hopefully gets resolved in the next book. A must read romantic thriller!

Detective Ellie Reeves is attending the wedding of her good friend Mia, when suddenly everything goes wrong. The bride is missing, the maid of honor is found murdered and the little girl of the bride is found locked in the bathroom. It is up to Ellie to find out if her friend was kidnapped or is a runaway bride. She soon finds out that maybe she didn’t know Mia as well as she thought and that she was keeping secrets from everyone. This is the seventh book in this series and with each book it just keeps getting better. I loved this book and highly recommend it. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this Arc.
Rita Herron does it again! Detective Ellie Reeves is looking forward to a rare day off to attend the wedding of a friend. But a dead bridesmaid, a missing bride, a distraught child all make Ellie jump into action and start an investigation. Set in a small mountain town in Georgia along the Appalachian Trail, a fast-moving river serves as a backdrop for the novel. The very atmosphere becomes a character in the book, with the descriptions of the unsettled weather with thunderstorms. We feel the biting of the swarms of mosquitos and gnats. We feel the oppressive heat, the shocking coldness of the river water, and thick, muddy banks where the police are searching. There are moonshine stills in the mountains, and other secret places where people are encouraged by gunpoint to steer clear from. There are real and imagined monsters in the mountains and hills and river. Deadly cottonmouth snakes swim in the river and can be found moving about the riverbanks and interior. Twists and turns and suspense galore make this an exciting read. A five-star read!
Another great addition to the Ellie Reeves series. This book can be read as a stand-a-lone but is best read as part of the series. Another engaging mystery that grabs you from the start. A wedding that starts out as such a joyful moment ends with the Bride missing, the bridesmaid murdered and a little girl locked in a bathroom. The story was fast paced and kept me reading way past my bedtime. I feel in love with the adorable Pixie and enjoyed seeing Ellie and Derrick’s relationship continue to slowly build. I can highly recommend the book and the series as a whole. My only negative was at 170 chapters the tension at times felt interrupted. I guess I am more of a long chapter person. However, this is a small personal quibble. I look forward to reading more books in the series and hope that the final sentence is not truly foreshadowing what I fear it might be…. Thanks to Ms Herron, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. 4.8/5 stars
Series just keeps getting better and better! Great police procedural with strong cast and complex mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end. Can be read alone, but worth it to read the series.
I liked this book…it is a cannot put down mystery…intriguing…the main character is a law enforcement officer…her friends, loved ones…professional friends…they all come alive on the pages of this novel. This would make a great movie. Ellie Reeves is a dynamic protagonist…solving crimes…becoming personally involved…In this book, a bride disappears at her wedding…her little girl is bereft…her intended worried…secrets…murders…the past…present…collide…some characters are not what they seem…this is a difficult one to discern…the ending…this book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author…I am hooked…
Ellie is attending her new friend, Mia's, wedding when just before the ceremony she goes missing along with her bridesmaid, Tori. It looks like they were kidnapped, but Mia would never leave her daughter, Pixie, behind. As an investigator, Ellie and her team interview people and find out about Mia's past. They learn that she really is not who she claims to be. What is really going on here?
This was my first book by Rita Herron. It was a good detective mystery to spend the day reading. The chapters are very short and you'll find yourself flying through it rather quickly. I really enjoyed THE GIRL IN THE RIVER and I think if you like solving mysteries you will really enjoy this one.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
