The scenes set in Deborah's prison were shocking and creepy. I loved the escape attempts, found myself holding my breath. Plenty of red herrings along the way and I really had no idea who the baddie was till the end. Highly recommended .
The way I had NO IDEA who was bad in this book! The suspense was consuming and I read it in one sitting because I truly could not put it down!
Such a brilliant read.
I have a few books by J. A. Baker, but I think this is the first one I've actualy read. The others I have will now be bumped up my TBR pile, as this one was amazing!
As soon as i started this, I was instantly sucked in. Their were a few different characters to follow, I normaly struggle with keeping up with who's who, but I managed this one with ease, was very easy to follow.
I really enjoyed all the back story, it gave such an impact on what was happening.
I had a vivid image throughout this book, it was perfectly written in my opinion.
Wow! I was hooked by the brilliant writing! Everyone is a suspect. They all have secrets and dark pasts. I couldn't put it down, trying to guess who had taken Deborah.
She has been shackled by a female captor , whom she knows. What is the end game, and when will she be released?
The theme of not really knowing those around us , even if we see them for hours a day, is really fascinating.
Suspense fans will love this book with it’s twists and turns

This is a book with a convoluted plot that I have to admit I found hard to keep track of. At first it seemed straightforward, Deborah was missing but the reasoning behind her disappearance is anything but. It was an enjoyable story with tantalising glimpses back into someone's past but it wasn't terribly exciting and never seemed to reach its potential. In fact left with unanswered questions.
This was an okay read, too busy in places and so many character all shouting their own opinions. There was some tension but very slow in places. Not one of her best books, saying that I am sure other readers will enjoy it more just not for me.
I liked the story, but it's not a good fit for me. The story took some time for me to get interested, and I couldn't relate to any of the characters.
However, the suspense was built up beautifully and kept me guessing
I have been a fan of J. A. Baker's for a while now. I haven't quite caught up with everything that she has written to date but that is something I hope to rectify in the not too distant future. I read the synopsis of 'Local Girl Missing' and it certainly sounded like an intriguing read. I couldn't wait to start reading and so without further ado, I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settle down for an interesting afternoon of reading. Overall I did enjoy reading 'Local Girl Missing' but more about that in a bit.
I have to be honest and say that it took me a little while to get into 'Local Girl Missing' which has more to do with the fact that I was tired and finding it hard to concentrate than anything else. I can't say that I particularly warmed to the characters but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Of course it could just be that I have read far too much crime fiction and I believe nobody and suspect everybody. I developed my own theories as to what was going to happen and so I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered off in the opposite direction. The more of the book that I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages seemed to turn. All too quickly I reached the end of 'Local Girl Missing'. I found 'Local Girl Missing' to be a gripping, intense and dramatic read. The story certainly kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat.
'Local Girl Missing' is well written but then I have come to expect nothing less from J. A. Baker. She certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one heck of a read. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a steady pace throughout. Reading 'Local Girl Missing' felt like being on an at times scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I love the way in which J. A. Baker makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.
In short and overall I did enjoy reading 'Local Girl Missing' and 'I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of J. A. Baker's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*

It begins with Deborah being abducted and held captive. The multiple narrators works really well and keeps the suspense going as to who the abductor is - I changed my mind several times.
In summary this was a great psychological thriller with plenty of suspense and an author I would recommend.
Thanks to netgalley and Boldwood Books for this advance read. Deborah, Yvonne, Adrian and Merriel.

A superb piece of writing and a chilling book to read.
Full of twists and turns and plenty of intrigue and suspense. A real page turner that will not disappoint.
Recommended 4 stars from me.
When local woman Deborah goes missing her work colleagues are left shocked and concerned for her whereabouts. This book is told from multiple POVs and guides the reader on an exploratory journey to discover who is responsible for the disappearance.
Is it true that crimes are carried out by someone you know? Are we all hiding things from colleagues that we like to pretend aren't skeletons in our history? How can work friends move on when something so huge has happened? Can we really trust those colleagues that we think we know?
This is a dark and twisty psychological thriller that flips from the POV of our captive, to her captor and the work colleagues who have varying levels of concern and connection to the disappearance.
I really enjoyed this one and my interest was kept for the whole book, I thought it was really well paced and the characters give just enough away all the way through to keep you guessing, but ultimately building to a crescendo as the case is cracked. My only niggle is that not once are the police mentioned as investigating this as a missing person case, not even as a background story......but I'll let it go as I genuinely enjoyed the book overall.
This one kept me guessing. Everyone was a suspect so when a new character was brought up as a suspect, I would believe they were the one! Took a little bit to get into, but a good thriller to add to your shelf.
This book had me guessing! Fast paced and great read. Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for chance to read and review
Deborah work in the office. When she suddenly goes missing her coworkers are worried and gossip flows.
She is held by a psychopath, someone she knows.
The story switches between POVs and jumps from past to present, to reveal a shocking story.
The story is fascinating, but not a good fit for me. I had a hard time getting into it.
got it on Netgalley, all opinions are my own
This book was pretty good! The story kept me captivated, and was fast paced. I was surprised by the culprit at the end, it was not who I expected.
The storyline with Beth was kind of distracting, but I enjoyed this book a lot
Literally just finished this one in 24 hours ...couldn't stop reading it!
Loved the different character perspectives and trying to piece the story together. It was so cleverly written in a way to make you consider everyone and even consider my own thoughts!
The suspense was built up slowly but in a fast paced way making it a read I couldn't put down despite being unwell today. I can't praise this book enough.
I love J.A. Baker's books and Local Girl Missing is no exception. It's so tense it's as taut as a bow string and I couldn't read it fast enough to discover who was behind Deborah's disappearance.
Deborah's colleagues are shocked and distressed when she disappears, but as worried as they are about Deborah, what shocks them just as much is that it could quite easily have been one of them instead. J.A. Baker puts each of the characters under the microscope as the reader delves beneath their skin to see who they really are.
Workplace rivalries and gossiping colleagues help to build up the tension as we get to know the characters and discover what each of them is hiding. If you work full-time, you spend more of your awake time with your colleagues than your family but you never really get to know them. We all have a work persona and it's only when you inadvertently let your guard down that your colleagues might catch a glimpse of the real you.
I can safely say that I did guess who the kidnapper was in Local Girl Missing but only because I suspected every single character at one time or another, so I would've been right at some point. Without giving anything away, I really enjoyed discovering the motivation behind Deborah's abduction; even though it's pretty creepy to think that someone you know could be hiding a very dark secret behind their friendly face.
J.A. Baker's writing is exceptional as she builds up suspense and creates so much suspicion about every character. The tension builds as the reader slowly peels away layer after layer of every character to see what's really underneath.
Tense, suspenseful and compelling, Local Girl Missing is another cracking J.A. Baker novel. I really enjoyed the workplace setting and think J.A. Baker totally nailed it. Recommended.
I received a digital ARC to read and review for the blog tour and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I didn’t like this book very much, it was confusing and I gave up halfway through. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the copy of #LocalGirlMissing by #JABaker
I only managed about a third of this book before giving up.
I couldn’t find anything in it to encourage me to read more.
I thought this book was just okay. I found it really confusing and hard to keep up with in some places. So with it being hard to follow it was not my favorite. But I liked it enough to keep reading.
