What a great cast of characters there are in this very suspenseful tale. It made me very glad I didn't work in an office. The scenes set in Deborah's prison were shocking and creepy. I loved the escape attempts, found myself holding my breath. Plenty of red herrings along the way and I really had no idea who the baddie was till the end. Highly recommneded.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.

Ok, this book was really good. Action packed and very well written.
But it was so hard to read at times.
There were too many people up for the job of the bad guy is about as simple as I can put it.
You suspect pretty much everyone by the end, and that got very confusing. But I will say, I stayed intrigued until the end.

I think this author is on a great path but still has a lot to learn.

Will I recommend this book? Hmmm, probably not Will I ever read another by this author? It's possible.

The mystery of the perpetrator was so well done, I alternated who I thought it was for the entire book.
It took a bit for me to get drawn in to the story, but once I was, I couldn’t put it down.
The psychology behind the actions of the character fascinates me. I wish it had been explored a little more.
I received a copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own

This sounded like right up my street, the blurb reads

""When local woman Deborah goes missing, her colleagues Adrian, Yvonne and Merriel are all left in shock. Gossip around the office begins to swirl – what could have happened to Deborah? Is she dead or alive? And who could be responsible for her disappearance?

Everyone is terrified that they could be next…except the one person who has all the answers. The last person people expect.

Because Deborah is being held captive by a monster, a psychopath. But not a stranger… it’s someone she knows all too well""

I was super excited to read this, but unfortunately for me, I have given up half way through. We meet co-workers Yvonne, Merriel and Adrian and their other co--worker has recently gone missing, Deborah. They are wondering whether she has been kidnapped, murdered, fled the city etc. Each chapter is from each characters perspective and we learn a little more about each of their lives. We learn what has happened to Deborah and how she is being kept cruelly against her will and she is joined then by a second captive.

I found that I was skipping huge chunks of the novel so I know that's when I am not really invested in a novel. I found it quite repetitive and quite difficult to read in places.

I really hate giving up on books as I realise how much work goes into a novel but this was not for me.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel.

This book is well written. It has a cast of cast of wacky characters. I don't think I'll ever look at my coworkers the same way again.

A suspenseful story that kept my interest throughout. It differs from the traditional "woman missing" story by focusing on the woman's work colleagues instead of her husband or friends.

Local Girl Missing by J.A. Baker is tense and a good psychological thriller. When local woman Deborah goes missing, her colleagues Adrian, Yvonne, and Merriel are all left in shock. And the psychopath could be someone they know.

Overall, the book was good. However, it was hard to read at times due to little dialogue and trying to keep track of the timeline and alternating character perspectives.

The story was suspenseful and for the most part, held my interest. I would give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend this book.

A young woman, Deborah, has gone missing. Her colleagues at work saw her leave but she never arrived home. Alternate chapters give us Deborah's distressing situation and surprise when there is another woman brought to her who looks almost identical. This is the story of them trying to figure out how to escape but who has brought them there and why as well as the story of the people around them.
OMG. In parts this is quite a harrowing read as Deborah has been treated very cruelly and is in appalling conditions. The offices where Deborah worked give a very interesting psychological insight to those around her and give the reader a chance to try and work things out. At times I found this a little hard going due to lack of dialogue, but understood the need for descriptive text due to the circumstances.
A dark, rather chilling story cleverly put together- I thought I had the perpetrator and was wrong. One not to read on your own in a dark room!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC

I enjoyed this book which was full of suspense, tension and intrigue. I liked how the story moved from past to present times effortlessly and that it was told through different characters and their perspectives. I thought the author cleverly introduced her characters then built them up giving clues about the secrets they were hiding. When Deborah goes missing on her way home one day from work the Police investigate her disappearance. The story takes place a few weeks after her disappearance and I could feel the tension and atmosphere in the office through the authors writing. This book grabbed my attention right from the start of the story and held it all the way through to the end. The story was easy to follow and I loved the twists and turns in it. The author really ramps up the tension and suspense towards the end as the story races to its final conclusion tying all loose threads up nicely. It didn’t quite wow me though, although I’d recommend this book if you like psychological thrillers.

Local Girl Missing by J A Baker is a fast-paced thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat as I raced through the pages.

Deborah has gone missing, much to the consternation of her colleagues, Adrian, Merriel and Yvonne. Told from their alternating and unique perspectives, a sense of fear takes hold as speculation swirls. Is there a psychopath on the loose, or is the real danger lurking much closer than anyone could ever guess?

This was a tense and suspenseful read that you will want to devour in a single sitting. This novel was my introduction to the work of Ms Baker, and I look forward to enjoying much more.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC of this title.

This mystery is intriguing. The characters, since there is little dialogue, are not really likable or not even unlikable…there were so many voices that I could not keep track. This took away from the story. People In The office..those in the past…the woman who was kept prisoner…although the details in this novel were creatively written,I just had problems reading the book. This book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley. Thanks

Local Girl Missing is an edge of your seat thriller. A domestic situation that turns into a - keep your secrets at all cost - mystery. A local town that feels secure. Until....

A group of colleagues. One, Deborah, goes missing. The others can not imagine what has happened, and as events unfold they began to fear for their own lives. Except for the one person who has taken Deborah. The psychopath is someone she knows. Intimately.

A quick read that is a psychological thriller. It questions the very safety of our lives.
