This was a fantastic, comprehensive history of 17th century England, the revolution, and it's affects on the global workings to this day. I walked into this completely unfamiliar with the specifics of this time period and I felt both able to understand the narrative and also really engrossed in the story Healey was telling. This felt big and comprehensive in the same way that The Verge by Patrick Wyman. I think this book will appeal to reads of general history.

This is such a good overview on an important period, one that continues to affect us broadly (and the UK specifically) to this day! The book is organized chronologically, but takes a lot of complicated subjects like politics, religion, changing societal norms, and makes them interesting to read about. His use of language that will resonate with a modern general audience ("culture wars", for example) lends the book some levity, as does the author's tone and voice.

Recommended for general interest readers.
