Any MLP book is a hit with my little ones, and this is one engaging with a positive message.

ARC from publisher via NetGalley, but the opinions are my own.

I’m a little late to posting feedback but I wanted to let everyone know that I bought this for the library immediately. One because it’s My Little Pony, two because its a graphic novel, but most importantly it is super cute. The art style is clear, fresh, and entertaining, as is the writing. Since buying it I can hardly keep this on the shelf, My Little Pony goes out very well, but this one specifically is a good one!

Looking forward to Vol 2 and more!

As the title states, this new generation of ponies have big shoes to fill, after arguable the largest era of the franchise, Friendship is Magic, has come to a close.

Set after the events of the Netflix movie, which introduces this new era of My Little Pony, Volume 1 of the comics collects issues #1-5.

Do these fill the shoes? Well, it's not a bad start. With the return of an old friend, the comics are definitely enjoyable, although I still feel these characters are a touch of a dip in quality from the previous era, although that might just be due to the lack of time spent with them, at least compared to the previous characters.

Either way, if you liked the movie, or even just miss FiM, give this a shot.

"My Little Pony Vol. 1 : Big Horseshoes to Fill"
by Celeste Bronfman, Robin Easter, and Mary Kenney, is a cute graphic novel following the adventures of the new generation ponies from the "My Little Pony" universe.

After one of the Unity Crystals is stolen, the Mane Five (Sunny, Izzy, Zipp, Pipp, and Hitch) go on an adventure to find the Crystal and the thieft and save magic. Both the story and the illustrations were very cute.

I requested this graphic novel more for my daughter than myself, and she definitely enjoyed it. To be honest, I did also. While I felt that she was a bit young to get all the humor (she's four), she certainly enjoyed the overall experience, as she is a "My Little Pony" fan.

I think this is a great, fun read for young and not so young fans of the "My Little Pony" universe. I would definitely check out the next volumes in the series. Thank you to NetGalley and IDW Publishing for an e-arc of this graphic novel. All opinions are my own. "My Little Pony Vol.1: Big Horseshoes to Fill" will be released in April 2023.

I really enjoyed starting this new MLP story. I was a fan of FIM and was wondering how the new generation would compare. I love the direction this story is going and I look forward to seeing more.
This graphic novel is great for fans who want to see where the series is heading. It looks like it's in good hands.

I'll start with the art. Cute! While generation 6 has the 3D design, this comic renders it back down to traditional 2D design, very in line with the previous MLP comics. Not hugely innovative or stylish, but if your hope was for more of the same, you've got it! There's plenty of background details and ponies, showing how the world has integrated since the movie. A lot of big emotions on faces, not just of main characters, but from the background ponies, as well. Nothing anatomically over-reactive (except maybe for Izzy, but that's Izzy), but just emotive.

Now, the story...that's just odd. Discord believes that the three pony types being together again will result in disaster, and so he takes a Unity Crystal. The Mane Five go on a series of adventures to recover the crystal, prove Discord wrong, and keep ponykind that anything is amiss. We're given no reason for WHY he has become anti-friendship (at least in this first volume), just that he thinks this reintegration is a bad idea. I could definitely see this leading to a more interesting character revelation (something about how he felt losing Fluttershy?), but there's no foreshadowing, yet. Let's hope volume 2 makes a bit more effort on explanation.

There's also this odd thing for issue 5, where the story of how Discord left his imprisonment is completely changed. Now, I might have believed that the true story was lost to history, but Fluttershy and Discord's redemptive friendship is actually mentioned in earlier issues. So it's like a retcon...within 4 issues?

That said, it's enjoyable! Very fun, a quick read. And if what you're coming here for is "more ponies," then that's what you're getting. They're cute, they're brave, they're loyal. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for volume 2!

This was a great book to read with my daughter. She loves my little pony so I knew this book wouldn’t disappoint. When asked if she liked it, she responded “Again, Again.”

This Grpahic Novel was very adorable!

This book is definetly perfect for every big and little MLP fan and it's also perfect for kids (and adults) who want to read, but don't want to read big books and still want to enjoy a story.

The story itself was really enchanting and entertaining and the pictures were really beautiful to look at.

Thank You To NetGalles and IDW Publishing for this Arc!

The illustrations are strong and will entice any MLP readers, even creating a new generation of fans. However, I found the font size and spacing very difficult to read, which is likely to be even more true for my young readers that are interested in MLP stories. The creative use of panels (different sizes, overlapping, angled, etc) could also be confusing for my younger readers. I would recommend if your library has older readers that are still interested in reading MLP, but not if your primary patrons requesting MLP are younger elementary students.

Thank you netgalley for this ARC. I am leaving an 100% honest review.

I believe this is one of the most precious comics I have ever read. I have not looked at anything My Little Pony related since the late 80s early 90s, but it brought me back.

I think comics are a great way to get children who may not be interested in reading to go for a literary adventure. This had me smiling a page at a time. Thank you

When the previews for this new MLP generation first came out, I have to admit that I was very skeptical. Maybe it was because I didn't really find the toys all that appealing with their more hybrid look and feel. But I did enjoy the movie and thought that I would give the graphic novel/comic books a try as well. I will say that, if these are linked to a TV show or episodes, I have not watched any of that. Just the one movie while I was cooking in the kitchen.

I really didn't know what to expect of these stories and how they would weave together with the Canterlot of old. The first and longest part of the story did a very good job of reintroducing the idea of this new MLP generation as well as refresh our memory around the crystals. I liked that as the story progressed we got to see some of the history and learn more about what happened to Canterlot, to the original (but not the original original) ponies, etc. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Discord who, while kind of a baddie or maybe a baddie in this storyline, is a fun character who I really liked in this story and before. I think it's because he has dragon properties, because I also really like Spike. Although where is Spike in all this?!

I don't want to spoiler too much, but if you enjoyed the movie and are an MLP fan, this is a great read. And as always with the MLP comics, great illustrations that are true to the screen versions.

As a huge fan of My Little Pony, this was really cute. I loved the addition of Canterlot and Rainbowdash, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the gang. Discord is always such a fun bringer of chaos

A new adventure with these new little ponies! There’s so much to explore with this and I hope it keeps going. The artwork is as always stunning and adorable.

I will be revisiting this one!

Quick little read. Loved the comics. I did show It to my 2 year old and I think she likes it to. She the one who picked it out. I might reread it to her later on in the year but it kept us both pulled into it. 5 star book

This was a fun story perfect for any MLP fan. The telling of the story was a little disjointed, but overall I enjoyed

With five ponies to cheer for, this launches into an exciting...and at times, adorable...adventure with mystery, friendship, magic, and all sorts of unexpected moments.

This is the first book in what's-going-to-be 10 book series, which follows the Mane 5 as they steer through a new Equestria. Following up on the last movie, magic has now returned, and the ponies are living in wonderful fun and harmony. Of course, things aren't perfect and a new threat arrives...one which might remove the magic once again. Luckily, these ponies are up to adventure and, hopefully, will be able to figure out what's happening and how to stop it before it's too late.

My Little Pony fans will recognize the characters and fall right into the tale. Each pony has a very, individual character, quirks, and attitude. So, readers will have their personal favorite to follow. The excitement is always high and something is always going on...whether serious or weirdly unexpected. But then, these ponies do know how to keep adventure on it's toes. The mystery is well-laid out and it's hard to guess where things are going. Plus, at only 25 pages, even reluctant readers won't be afraid to grab this one up for a quick read.

The illustrations do the ponies justice, are colorful, and let the atmosphere radiate as it should. It accompanies the text well and builds the world nicely. I do enjoy the ponies' expressions and antics, and I have no doubt that Little Pony lovers will, too.

Having grown up with My Little Ponies everything, I was super excited to have the opportunity to read and review this graphic novel, With nods to the original My Little Pony squad, this series brings to life a new generation of ponies (and problems). I love the colors and the drawing style! I love the backgrounds too.

Sunny has grown up hearing stories of Canterlot her whole life. When one of the crystals that bring peace and harmony to the land goes missing. she might just have the chance to find it in her search. However, dreams aren't always what we imagined when fulfilled. Can Sunny and her friends fight against a chaos dragon and restore balance to the land

If you love My Little Ponies, you'll love this new squad! Highly recommended for 4th grade+.

Also - there's themes/lessons on friendship, responsibility and inter-species peace (there was fighting between earth ponies, Pegasuses and unicorns and this story alludes to how bad it was and how ideal harmony is).

New characters and new situations build on an already existing world. The ponies grow and learn and eventually succeed in their quest. Definitely a must read for any My Little Pony fan!
