With thanks to the author, publishers Bookouture Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Grace comes home unexpectedly from a work do, hoping to surprise her husband Dominic, but instead finding him in the arms of another woman in the cabin in the backyard. Her reaction is to lock them both in the cabin, while she apparently tries to figure out what to do next. However, we soon realise that all may not be as it seems with Grace, and that this may not be her first time holding someone captive against their will.

I enjoyed this one. The story kept moving forward, it never felt like it dragged for me, while Grace herself was a flawed but likeable character that I found myself rooting for as things developed.

One bone of contention … while it is plausible that a purpose-built cabin like Dominic’s, designed with security in mind, might be pretty impenetrable with its reinforced windows etc, I thought it was a bit of a stretch to also believe that two adults, starving and desperate, would not be able to escape from what appeared to have been a regular riverside shed/hut. That aside, I thought the plot was very well woven with plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing. I also thought the back and forth nature of the story telling, both between Grace and Dominic in the present day and also back to different points in time in both their lives, was a very effective way of allowing the story to progress.

Hats off too both narrators on a job well done too!

When Grace catches her husband sleeping with another woman on the floor of his work cabin, all she can think to do is lock the door.

The couple is now trapped. But how long shall she leave them in there for?

This had me hooked from the first page. Hurst tricks the reader throughout giving you a twist so you have to question whose side you are on. I can honestly say I was on the side of Grace and agreed with everything she did, but this did not mean what she was doing was right.

I did guess the twist, but this did not take away from the narrative and I was still hooked until the very end.

This novel is split with the chapter written from the POV of Grace as well as Dominic, this was a great way to keep the suspense and make the narrative keep the fast pace.

If this is not on your reading list, this is one I would highly recommend.

Oh wow, what was that?? I think it is about time to savour more of his books!!
Grace and Dominic the supposedly happily married couple. Not at all!!
When Grace returns home earlier than expected she finds her beloved husband with another, much younger woman.
You would think this will play out as usual. But it does not at all , just dive into this twisted rollercoaster of a story!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed it as well as the narration done by Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates
thanks you #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for this advanced audiobook

You will love this one if you treasure a story with plenty of twists and turns laced with a touch of ironic humor.
I found myself chuckling a few times at a visual of a stark naked couple locked in a cabin. This thriller is a quick read with no slow moments. No fury like a woman scorned.

Huge thank you to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture Audio, and NetGalley for this ARC in return for my honest opinion!

In short, “The Couple in the Cabin,” is about a woman named Grace who returns homes unexpectedly and catches her husband cheating on her with a young woman in their cabin. Instead of yelling, Grace simply locks the door and traps them inside. Will Grace let them out? Can they escape? Has Grace done something like this before? All of these questions are answered in this speedy thriller with perfect pacing.

I listened to the audio book for this story and have to give a shout out to the narrators. The story is told from Grace, and her husband’s point of view, and both of the narrators did a wonderful job keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Out now, this is a fun, fast read!

Love this book! Thrilling, exciting, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Something about this one made me feel a lot for Grace, the woman who had been cheated on. I was rooting for her the whole time. Would recommend this for thriller fans.

I was really looking forward to a twisty fast paced creepy thriller. Unfortunately it didn’t quite hit the spot for me. The plot is pretty near solid and so promising. Our protagonist has near solid background yet somehow it just didn’t knit the right pattern. Obviously that’s my personal opinion. I read a lot of thrillers, it’s generally my go to genre. In all honesty had this been an early thriller for me I think I’d have loved it. So maybe a thriller for beginners. I hope my review doesn’t put any one off the book, as I genuinely think it’s just personal, it’s all there it just wasn’t for me.
The writing is great, story good, narration good.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to listen to this audio book in return for an honest review.

⭐️ ⭐️⭐️✨

The Couple Next Door meets The Family Upstairs. Unreliable narrators, family secrets, cheating spouses, and revenge seekers.

3.5 ⭐️ - I definitely loved the character development and build-up throughout this novel and felt that overall, it was a real page turner, especially as an audiobook. The narrator selections were great and it definitely added dimension to have multiple narrators throughout!

I really started to feel for Grace after the beginning build-up and learning that her husband was having an affair - and it was definitely fresh and unique to have a storyline related to locking people in a cabin…however, I do find it pretty unbelievable that both Grace’s dad and her husband both had cabins that were built to withstand almost anything. It’s very unbelievable that multiple people, starved and trapped, wouldn’t have enough adrenaline to somehow get themselves out of a “backyard cabin.”

While the overall plot was great, and the writing style and character development made this incredibly gripping - I had to knock off points for the unbelievable nature of not being able to get out of either of the cabins.

Huge thank you to NetGalley and Daniel Hurst for access to the ARC of the audiobook!

A woman finds her husband naked with another woman in the couple's cabin at the bottom of their garden. Without a word, she locks them in. At first, it seems like a moment of anger and grief, after which she will throw him out. Instead, she burns everything belonging to the couple in the cabin, and then goes to bed, leaving them locked inside overnight. Long-buried secrets that motivate her actions come to light, and the reader soon learns this is not a simple game of revenge, but something far more sinister.

The Couple in the Cabin is an easy, fast read, with a small cast and not many twists or surprises. Once Grace's past comes to light, as told through flashbacks, the reveals are fairly obvious. Initially, it was jarring to hear Dominic's POV, as he is arrogant and self-congratulating, and the way he justifies his affair and plans to make amends are horribly chauvinistic and irritating. It is only when it becomes clearer that he's the victim that he becomes more sympathetic and Grace less so, which is a remarkable feat.

Two points keep this from being a 5-star book in my opinion. First, I don't find the "other woman's" real intentions entirely believable, without giving away too much of the story. And, second, I was disappointed in the denouement that one character's actions are excused as being "mentally unstable", relying on the tired trope of person with psychiatric disorder is inherently a villain. Statistically, people with mental health disorders are more likely to be victims than perpetrators. While it's understandable that it ends with the character being admitted to a psychiatric ward, the commentary about their possibly having an underlying mental condition could've been omitted for the better.

The narration was excellent and enjoyable to follow. Thank you to the author/publisher (it's self-published!) and NetGalley for the chance to review this audiobook in exchange for a fair review.

The Couple in the Cabin By: Daniel Hurst Narrated by: Eilidh Beaton, Matt Bates Length: 6 hrs and 45 mins was a good audiobook. However, I wasn't to sure at the beginning but once I got past the first chapter I enjoyed it and had to listen to it whilst doing some renovations to my farmhouse. It had good twists and interesting characters

The narrators Eilidh Beaton, Matt Bates were excellent, and perfect for this book.

Big Thank you Daniel Hurst, Bookouture Audio, and NetGalley for this ARC in return for my honest opinion!

The older I get the more I can see the validity in holding those that do you wrong accountable...Maybe not to the extremes as Grace, but I found myself thinking, she isn't "wrong", but she totally handled the fallout wrong. Grace and Dominic are a comfortably middle class childless couple. Their relationship has gotten a little stale and Dominic decides to have an affair with a younger woman. While Grace is away at a work function, Dominic invites his mistress over. They decide to make love in his man cabin in the backyard. Unfortunately, Grace decides to come home early and catches them in the act. She locks them in the cabin, which Dominic has made sure is extremely secure. They beg and plead with her to let them out, but we discover, this is not Grace's first go around with being angry and locking people away. How long will Grace keep Dominic and his mistress locked away and what will happen to her. I enjoyed this book. I guessed what the shock moment would be, but the way that it was presented, was still a gasp moment. I enjoyed this book.

This book is so dark and twisted but in a good way. This book proves there really is truth in the phrase "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" - is her reaction normal or borderline psychotic? I was hooked for page one, i listened to the audio book in one day and just couldn't stop. I had an inkling there would be a dark twist but the ending still took my breath away and I won't forget it easily.

This book was sadly just one giant cliche. The scorned wife (but not before she waxes lyrical about how great her husband is, just setting up the dismay, horror, and revenge) and the husband who's smack dab into his mid-life crisis. Add in the mistress with a grudge and this is what you get. The writing was juvenile and silly and the twist didn't really shock me. I had such high hopes for this one but unfortunately, it didn't work.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book. I received a digital copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun and quick read, perfect for a road trip or reading on the beach. That being said, it was fairly predictable, and the twists weren’t big surprises. The narrators did a great job, and despite the predictability, I was engaged in the story.

EXCERPT: The cabin looked like a warzone. Something truly terrible had happened in there. And it was up to the police to figure it all out.

Sure, the cabin at the bottom of the garden might have been a good idea at one time.

But in the end, it became nothing more than a crime scene.

And worse than that, it became the place where Grace and Dominic really learnt the truth about one another.

ABOUT 'THE COUPLE IN THE CABIN': When happily married Grace comes home early one night and catches her husband, Dominic, with another woman in the cabin at the bottom of their garden, she is shocked, angry, and most of all, hell-bent on revenge. That’s why she acts quickly, locking the pair in the cabin while she decides what she wants to do to them.

While Dominic and his mistress desperately try to get free, Grace makes a plan on the outside, but it’s a plan that is formed based on her previous experiences. That’s because this might not be the first time Grace has done something like this…

Who is the real villain? The cheating husband? Or the vengeful wife?

MY THOUGHTS: They say revenge is a dish best eaten cold. Grace has absolutely no intention of letting her desire for revenge go cold. People she loves shouldn't hurt her, should they? And if they do? Then they deserve everything they get.

Crazy fun is the best description I can come up with for The Couple in the Cabin by Daniel Hurst. This is one of those books where it is best to go in cold, and just enjoy the ride.

Told from multiple perspectives - mainly Grace's and Dominic's - and over multiple timelines, we learn what has happened in Grace's past that made her into the person she is today. While I was outwardly appalled at her actions, some little inner part of me was cheering her on.

The Couple in the Cabin is a quick, fast-paced read that appalled and enthralled me. But there was one set of circumstances that really did not sit well with me - (view spoiler) - and kept this from being a five star read.

I listened to the audiobook of The Couple in the Cabin, superbly narrated by Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates.

Well if this book gets made into a film it would have to be a comedy not a thriller. The beginning is good but it rapidly deteriorated into silliness and the ending I don’t believe anyone could take seriously.

Thank you Netgalley for this audio edition of The Couple in the Cabin by Daniel Hurst.

I'm learning that Hurst likes to make a soup with really rich broth. You don't need much because what you get will satisfy. His books aren't long, but that's also because they aren't wasting your time.

This story is crazy pants! Grace and Dominic are a happily married couple. Grace is happy for Dominic when he builds a quiet cabin to have a space to himself to work. But Grace is not happy when she finds Dominic in a very compromising decision with another woman in the cabin. But instead of storming the cabin in a rage like other women might, she locks them in. No food, no clothes, no warmth. How long does she actually plan to keep them in there, and has this side of Grace been seen by anyone else?

It's bizarre and deliciously fresh, if not totally disturbing. Definitely a quick rainy day read that will keep you turning the pages all day.

I love a good domestic thriller! When suburban life goes wrong, there is something so undeniably unsettling.

Take this couple for instance, they have a normal, if not a bit bland, marriage. Until everything immediately goes south from the first chapter.

I enjoyed the multiple POVs between the wife on the outside of the cabin and the husband on the inside. The interesting thing with the writing style is that both POVs flashback to different times, so there is a lot going on while the story is unfolding.

I felt like the first half of the book had some slow or stagnant points, mostly existing in the husbands perspective. Though as soon as we created the middle, the story had a great tempo and was compelling through the end. I enjoyed the suspense and the author did a good job of switching the POV at just the right time to keep me hanging on.

I enjoyed this as an audiobook and really liked the dual narrators. I felt that really helped, especially when dealing with both characters reliving or flashing back to memories of different ages.

Superb audiobook. I whizzed through this. Such a simple premise based around a cabin at the bottom of the garden - Grace comes home from work early to surprise her husband, but finds the surprise is all on her, as she discovers her husband with another woman at the bottom of the garden. Grace locks the couple in..and so unlocks the thrills and spills of the story. Lots of plot twists ensue that make this a deadly tale. Engaging. Thrilling. Well narrated. #thecoupleinthecabin #danielhurst #bookouture #netgalley

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. Can you make the same mistake twice? Do we all have methods of coping with things that we repeat? When Grace comes home unexpectedly from a night away, she discovers her husband sleeping with another woman in his cabin at the back of their yard. Dominic spent lots of time and money building this cabin as his "man cave". When Grace discovers him using it as a place to have his affair, she slams the door and locks Dominic in the cabin with his mistress. What will Grace do with these two? When will she let them out?
This book definitely kept me interested and I wanted to see what would happen. I found myself changing who I rooted for. Is Grace the one to feel sorry for? Or is it Dominic? The book explores events from Grace's past. Will it come back to haunt her? The narrators of the book did great work. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the audio version of this book.
