Thank you for this advanced copy. Who would build a door in which you cannot get out of? Is this a UK thing? I have read other books set in the UK where people are locked inside a room. I don't believe people in the USA would do this? So while that seems odd to me, the book was really good. Talk about some shocks! Everyone was played. Everyone held secrets. Never saw the ending coming. The characters were good. The suspense was good. Just can't get over the door thing.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so crazy and off the rails! Grace was crazy and I would have never guessed that ending. This was a quick and exciting thriller. This was an enjoyable listening experience.
This was definitely a fun read. Fast paced. Some back and forth in time but not enough to be confusing. Love a devious narrator. Twist at the end but not an unbelievable one like some books have nowadays.
This is one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve flown through in quite some time. I have the audiobook version (thank you Netgalley!) and I literally could not stop listening until the very end. The narrators are fantastic and the story itself is fast paced and not filled with a bunch of nothing. It gets to the point while keeping it incredibly interesting.
Grace is happily married but when she comes home early one night she catches Dominic, her husband, with another woman in his cabin that lies at the bottom of their garden. She is absolutely shocked and angry but most of all she wants revenge. She acts incredibly quickly without a thought and locks the two in the cabin as she ponders what it is she is going to do with them.
Now, as Dominic and his fling are desperately trying to find a way to get free, Grace forms a plan. However, that plan is based on something that has happened in the past. Grace, it seems, has done something similar to this before.
There is a question posed asking who the real villain is the cheater or the vengeful wife. I think people will definitely have different opinions on that one but for me, regardless of the past, if the guy had just kept it in his pants… Still, two wrongs don’t make a right, do they? Well, read it for yourself and see what you think!
I really liked this book and how easy it was to get hooked to the story. I definitely recommend giving it a shot if you are looking for something that won’t take a ton of time because it will hold your interest to the very end.
This book reminds me of a ride we used to have at Six Flags, with the combination of a rollercoaster. The novel starts out as a "Free Fall," and takes you off on a fast drop. Then it is a slow burn as we approach a hill again. Then it goes fast again, then in the end it is just okay. Overall, I thought this book had some really interesting and good parts but ended up just being okay. As an American, I also have trouble believing the ending when it comes to the amount of punishment for a crime committed when the woman was 10-years old.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Grace and Dominic have been married a while and seem to have a good life. Good jobs, nice home, comfortable together. Dominic has built a cabin in the backyard so he can work undisturbed from home, which he does muchof the time.
But when Grace unexpectedly comes home one evening when Dominic thought she was away over night, she finds Dominic and his younger mistress making love in his cabin. What does she do? She locks them in and turns off the electricity and goes about her business.
This was fast-paced and twisty. The narrators were unrelizable, which I love. It had love, betrayal, revenge and kept my interest throughout.
This book kept me guessing and slowly let us in on what Grace's past was like, making us understand even more her current situation.
And the end was a bit of a shock to me!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for an advance listening copy in exchange for my honest review.
“They’ll do anything to get out, she’ll do anything to keep them in”
This was sucha good book, and it really had me gripped from the very beginning!
Lots of suspense, twists and surprises I definitely didn’t see comming !!
I got this one on audible which I don’t normally like audibles and would much prefer to read HOWEVER the narrators were excellent!!! And I really enjoyed it!! This book is now available on kindle but I’d even recommend listening to this one!!
I’ll definitely be checking out more of this authors books now! I’m so glad I discovered him!! I already have my eyes on a few that sound really good !! 😍
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me this book as an ARC!
My thanks to the invitation I received from Net Galley to review this audio and to Bookouture.
Grace comes home and finds her husband Dominick in bed with his mistress in the cabin on the grounds of their home ,and boy does she turn into a woman scorned, locks then in the cabin ,and torments them big time.
On another timeline from Grace as a 10 year old, we find she has done this before to her father and HIS mistress. Her father and mistress die. So who is the real criminal? Book also told from Dominic's perspective.
Loved this! Twisty!
I found this story quite enjoyable. As usual with Mr. Hurst this was a quick, suspenseful read. I was surprised by some of the twists.
I do have one big question.... do sheds, cabins, buildings, etc in England not have usual locks/ deadbolts on the inside of doors?! I feel like this book's whole premise banks on the fact that we are taking it as usual to have a key lock on both sides of the door. It isn't as usual in the buildings I've experienced but what do I know LOL
I feel like this author is reliable for straightforward, entertaining, quick stories that keep me immersed for a few hours and sometimes leave me surprised.
Thank you to Bookoture via Netgalley for the audiobook to read and review!
“The Couple in the Cabin” is an excellently twisted, absorbing and gripping thriller, which I completed within 24 hours! I listened to the audiobook format, but I am confident the physical or digital book would be just as flawless!
The narration is performed brilliantly, bringing Grace and Dominic to life through alternative chapters. It was enlightening to see things from both characters’ perspectives. During the first half of the story, I loathed Dominic and his selfish ways of looking at everything that had happened, but my opinion differed by the conclusion and the big reveal that had taken place. Grace is complex, and her actions are often morally wrong but fueled by emotions. I felt sorry for her more than anything.
This book would make a great book club read and is perfect for fans of Daniel Hurst or this genre. Due to release on 1st Nov, this is undoubtedly worth preordering in any format!
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!
Dominic talked his way into getting a man cave aka cabin on their property so he could “work from home” and have his own office. Grace is reluctant but she goes along with it. He goes all out and it gets every security feature.
Those security features come back to bite him when Grace arrives home early from a work function and finds him with a mistress! This man goes into the office one day a week and finds a mistress. Like a bizarre reflex, she locks the door to the cabin from the outside and there’s no way out. She just needs time to figure out what she’s going to do.
As we listen to the narration swap between Grace and Dominic, we realize that this isn’t the first time Grace has had someone backed into a corner this way. Is she going to let them out after she spooks them or are they going to die in there?
Alexa, play Mastermind by Taylor Swift.
This was a fantastic psychological thriller! I’ve read a few of Hurst’s books here and there and I’ve never been 100% sold until now! He’s got it! This started off interesting and didn’t let of the gas until the end. It had character building while other things were going on so it didn’t feel long and drawn out. It quickly spun into a literal locked room mystery!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review. The narration was great!
An unexpected twisted thriller.
A story of a philandering husband, young mistress and a scorned wife - but who's the victim, and who's the villain?
Hurt's writing keeps you engaged and on the edge of your seat. I didn't find the plot too predictable, however the characters are hard to care about. They are all flawed, but I failed to find myself empathetic or connected to any of them. Besides character development to be lacking, it's a fast fast thriller with a couple twists you might not see coming.
This was good. It was full of suspense and twists that I think make for a exciting story. I had a couple of “ oh my god!” moments. And I loved all the surprises that unfolded. I chose to listen to this book on audio and the narrators were excellent. I highly recommend listening to this one.
Thanks Bookouture Audio via NetGalley.
A decent thriller, but the twist was fairly predictable. Entertaining enough but would not be a top thriller recommendation.
When Grace decided to go home instead of staying overnight at her work event she didn’t text her husband Dominic because she wanted to surprise him and see what he was doing while she was out but the surprise would be hers. She found him in his cabin in the backyard having sex with a younger woman. locking them in was easy but convincing herself to let them out is the hard part but when one of her victims knows more than shee thought they should it changes the whole game. This Book will leave you shaking your head and rolling your eyes but the one thing you won’t do is stop reading it. I have read a few books by Daniel Hearst and although they can be a little over the top and leave a lot of questions unanswered but at the same time the riveting and so worth reading. He has a magic that even though common sense tells you one thing you will continue to read the book because it’s that good. For example didn’t anyone in the book know about inside locks and why not break the window to get out? Either way what I started reading it I didn’t want to stop because Like his other books they’re all consuming and this one did not disappoint. I listen to the audiobook and thought the dual narrators did such a wonderful job and would definitely listen to another book narrated by them again. I received this book from NetGalley and bookouture but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate most of my review.
Audiobook - well read, great voices!
Very, very twisty story with a different take on the domestic thriller.
When happily married Grace comes home to find Dominic with another woman, she quickly captures the two in a cottage in the back yard. The quickly moving story reveals piece by piece what transpired prior to this event via Dominic and Grace's point of view. Daniel Hurst does a great job building an interesting plot with some believable twists that you don't see coming! If you like domestic thrillers - this is an audiobook for you!
This novel was riveting! Image you think your marriage is wonderful and you come home to find your husband with another woman?
Grace and Dominic have a cabin behind their home where he can work and not be disturbed. Grace comes home early from work and finds ladies clothing skewed all over their home but she does not find her husband. She checks in the cabin and finds her husband and some young women. On impulse she locks them in the cabin!
Dominic’s and his mistress are panicking. Grace starts delivering messages and based on their responses, she will decided their fate. I enjoyed this wild story! Looking forward to more by this author.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture Audio and author Daniel Hurst for this audio. Available Nov 1, 2022.
Wow this is one hell of a story. It starts with a husband having an affair and his wife coming home unexpectedly and then goes off into a real dark disturbing story which I love (there may be something wrong with me lol). I was not expecting it to pan out as it did and don’t want to spoil anything so just to say don’t miss this audio as it’s great.
Thank you Net Galley for an audio ARC of The Couple in the Cabin by Daniel Hurst. A great revenge story from a new-to-me author. I love a good revenge story!
Synopsis: Dominic loves his garden cabin where he goes to work or just escape and have some quiet time. His wife Grace is happy for him to have his cabin though doesn't understand the attraction, that is until the day it becomes extremely useful to her...
Review: A thrilling story of betrayal, revenge and secrets. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I only discovered Daniel Hurst less than twelve months ago and in that time I have already read about 5 of his books and each one as intriguing as the next. I love his easy style drawing you in and immersing you within the story that you experience every single thing going on. This fast-paced read lived up to my expectations. The story neatly wrapped into a tidy bow by the end and all unanswered questions that fluttered through the book were wrapped up.
My only criticism is that I really didnt like the narrators of the audiobook - they dragged out each word so long and sometimes made sentences sound very cringy. I don't think I'd listen to an audio book again. I've rated this a 3/5 purely because of the audio book - I probably would've given a 4/5 to the story if it was a paperback.
This book has definitely made me never want to go into a cabin again.... THE COUPLE IN THE CABIN is deviously plotted and skillfully written, showcasing Hurst's phenomenal talent and wicked humour. And he keeps it going right to the end. One of his best thrillers to date ...
Thankyou to Net Galley, Bookouture and Daniel Hurst for giving me an audiobook before publication date - I will definitely read more of his works.
