This was so good! A heist graphic novel wrapped up in a prisoner firefighter group written by one of my favorite writers, Scott Snyder. If you are looking for a beautiful and well-written graphic novel then you should definitely check this out! I really enjoyed the fast paced plot and the interesting characters. Overall, a great read!

I'll be honest. I sat on this one a while. I did so because I knew it was going to be good and sometimes you just need to keep a reliable read in your pocket to help you avoid a slump. When I finally read this I was glad I chose it because it kept me reading. This is a very interesting story that's plausible for the most part. Convicts do fight fires and who knows, maybe a fire could happen near one of their hidden safehouses or something.

This comic has a very interesting idea that hasn't been done a million times before. I love me some superheroes but sometimes I want a comic that brings me something fresh.

Thanks to Net Galley and IDW for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great short graphic novel. This story is split into 6 short books, and this is the first instalment. I just loved the pictures they were in amazing detail and with a fantastic use of colour. Its colour to me actually made it look 3D . The story was very interesting and well wrote and definitely entertained me. I was actually gutted when it ended, but that just left me looking forward to reading the next part. The combination of great pictures and a wonderful story it created such a wonderful sense of atmosphere. This I really felt while reading. I definitely recommend reading this book if you enjoy graphic novels.

So much praise goes out to the author, illustrator, and publishers for creating such an interesting reading experience. I am now looking forward to reading more.

Dark Spaces: Wildfire #1 is the first issue in a new series by Scott Snyder and Hayden Sherman, so I had to give it a try! Set during the Arroyo Fire, this series covers a group of inmate firefighters – and the dangers (plus temptations) they will face alongside the smoke and ash.

Writing

Dark Spaces: Wildfire #1 is a solid start to the series. Right away, readers are pulled into the story. Granted, it would be challenging for a fire not to catch our attention. Combine that with our leading lady's regrets, and it becomes impossible to look away from.

I'm thrilled to see Scott Snyder experimenting with different stories. Obviously, Dark Spaces: Wildfire #1 is only one of several projects he's currently working on, but it was enough to get me curious.

Much of this first issue is spent setting the scene. We have the in-media res intro, which then morphs into a brief overview of the job (and the risks), followed by some time spent getting to know the main characters. It's very well-balanced, setting the series off on the right foot.

From here on out, it'll be much easier to care about the characters and the situation they are likely about to get themselves into.

Artwork

Dark Spaces: Wildfire #1 has some brilliant artwork to complement such an intense story. Actually, I'm fairly certain that the story wouldn't be quite as intense without the help of the artists Hayden Sherman (pencils), Ronda Pattison (colors), and Andworld Design (letters).

The character designs are brilliant – they have that rougher quality but feel so very real. Combine that with the bold and bright colors, and you have the recipe for a story that is visually appealing – and memorable.

I'm always fond of seeing what letters will do with a series such as this, and Andworld Design did not disappoint. I love the subtlety and care shown in the placement and styles. It's the little things that really make the lettering shine here.

Conclusion

All things said and done; I think Dark Spaces: Wildfire #1 is a really solid start to this series. It's already making me a bit sad that there will only be four more issues following this one. I could have gotten used to a whole lot more of this!

This was a really intriguing first issue! I love the artwork, the colours are incredibly striking and fit the tone of the story, and I already feel like I have a really strong impression of the characters. I've immediately put this on my wishlist and will be on the lookout for the full volumes 1-5 when they're released in May!

I would like to thank IBW Publishing and NetGalley for granting me this ARC in exchange for writing an honest review!

This comic was very short yet so raw and real.
I was very immersed in the illustrations and graphics. Unfortunately, the comics did end with a cliffhanger but overall, it was such a well-written comic.
I would like to disagree with the fact that the past defines us; it absolutely does not define us.

Highlight's:
"The danger, the warning signs-- they're all there,
if you know what to look for."

"I see all the ways the past
matters. Not just our pasts,
Either, but the past itself-the
vast, unseen mountain on which
our tiny mountains rests."

Note: I obtained an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher to write this review.

As far as a first issue goes, this one pretty well nails it. The panel design and use of color make for a visual feast and dialogue is engaging throughout. I really hope that this ends up as Scott Snyder's take on a Coen brothers style of storytelling, because the introduction of this cast of characters would be a good start to one.

My thanks to both NetGalley and the publisher IDW Publishing for an advanced copy of this first issue of a very promising and exciting new comic book anthology series.

Fire burns everything it comes into contact with. A forest hundreds of years old can be reduced to ash, mcmansions built in areas that should never have an permanent structures due to fire are consumed no matter how much money is thrown at it. Families, loved ones, animals and livelihoods can be gone just in the changing of the wind moving fire one way, than another. Fire can even burn down barriers in people, taking those ethical standards, those right and wrong rules, and torching them, leaving only greed, and possibly eternal damnation, whether in the mind or in the afterlife is up to debate. This is the inferno our cast of characters find themselves, setting out to fight a fire with the best of intention, until the deal that is always to good to pass up is presented, and the flames get higher. Dark Spaces: Wildfire #1 is the first issue in a new anthology series written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Hayden Sherman, featuring people in difficult situations, and the horrors that that their decisions might lead them to.

Members of a women's inmate fire fighting team have been fighting a fire in the Arroyo Canyon for over a month, and limits are getting reached. The team is a solid unit, an experienced group, with a new member who is learning well, and overseen by a guard with one rule, doesn't matter what you did, you prove yourself on the line against the fire. The newest member realizes they are near a hidden redoubt, designed by the inmate, for a billionaire financier to hide money, art and information far from prying eyes. Millions of dollars could be waiting in a place that might soon be destroyed by flames. The group might as well liberate, it, as it will all be torched anyway. As the fire burns closer decisions need to be made.

A good start to what sounds like an intriguing series, one with a storyline that seems unique and different. The characters all seem well developed, each has something to make them different, with enough time in the series to help them grow. The art is really good and helps drive the story. Sherman does a very good job of keeping the story moving with panels that tell more than the words show, with art this is really very good and compliments the story well. Plus the issue ends in such a way the reader wants to know more, and how things will turn out.

An interesting start to what promises to be a fun new anthology, one I hope keeps up the high standards set here. Scott Snyder has a gift with characters and dialogue, so readers are sure of a good story, while Hayden Sherman on art is really good at capturing the reader's interest and holding on to it throughout the story. I'm excited to read more.

The inmates at an all women correctional centre are tasked to work with fire brigade to control forest fires. But there lay ahead tempting riches making them rethink their path to normalcy. Is it fortune or a trap? It's a test of fate, faith, and fear!

A graphic novel anthology by Scott Snyder? Enough said! The illustrations are gorgeous, with burning bright colours fitting the fiery theme. The story is very gripping too and the illustrations compliment it so well! (Swipe for a peek). It's so artistic! I'll surely be keeping an eye out for the next issue! 🤗

Thanks so much @netgalley and @idwpublishing for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

This is the first volume of a five part series. It is a great introduction to a story about a group of women prisoners who are fire fighting. One of the homes in the area on fire belongs to the former boss of one of the women. There is a chance that money, crypto currency and rare artwork might be in the house and the women believe this is a chance to get some money and payback an injustice. We know from the hints that things do not go to plan and that’s it.

This volume gives us a tantalising taste of what is to come. I wasn’t a fan of the colouring. I wish there had been a few more volumes to review because it certainly looks interesting and it would have been great to read further.

Brilliant!! From the story, the illustrations, the writing- everything was fabulous! I was craving for some all women twisted drama and Dark Spaces: Wildfire was spot on that league. It’s a dark, women-centric heist story and has gorgeous illustrations. Can’t wait to read the next volume.

Thanks to IDW Publishing and NetGalley for the DRC.

5/5🌟.
