Dad and Daddy’s Big Big Family is a beautiful picture book full of inclusion and love. The story surrounding families of all shapes, sizes and coming from different places is something everyone should read in their homes. This book is fantastically written and will be loved by many
The overall book is a lovely look at the diversity of family and who is included in family. With colorful illustrations and bright message, it is a great read for those planning to meet family beyond the immediate and to connect children to their own big families. The main gripe is the book feels wordy, and can be better written in a concise manner.
A great little book about what a family is.
Harper and her parents are going to a family reunion, but what does it mean to have such a big family? They are all so different, but from the same family! How can that is?
I thought this was a wonderful story that tells in an easy way what it means to have a family. Some live close by, like the ones you live with, and some can live a few minutes, or far far away. I think this will be a great read for young readers to understand the topic better.
Happy reading!♥️
I love this to bit! I love the confusion around extended family. I love the diversity (age, race, ability, family makeup). This is a must, must, MUST purchase for me!
It was a cute book with meanigful stories inside it! Great and pretty illustration makes me wonder how can i live in it 😔💗 Thank you netgalley for this cute book <3! RTC
I loved everything about this glorious picture book. It’s super inclusive and perfect for opening discussions about how all families are different. Harper goes to visit her extended family and finds out that family doesn’t just mean who lives with you and that even though people are family it doesn’t mean that they all look the same. This should be in every reception classroom! It’s out May 9th 2023 but can be pre-ordered right now!
"Every family is like a snowflake," said Daddy. "Even if one looks the same as another from far away, each is completely unique when you get up close."
This is a really nice book. It is a fantastic book that could be used to explore a child's family tree, or discuss what family means, and how every family is different. However, what I really liked was the quote "family is who you surround yourself with" as this makes sure that people who haven't/wouldn't like to explore their family tree also understand that the word family has many different meanings, but one thing families have in common is the they are connected by love.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for letting me read this. Great great book showcasing the great diversity that can exist in families. Very wholesome story with very sweet illustrations and nice storytelling. I loved the comparison to a spiderweb at the end. Perfect classroom and library book that can easily be used to show not only diversity but also community.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
omg this was SO cute and wholesome! It isn't always easy to understand extended family when you are children, so seeing them try to make sense of it in this one was lovely! I also loved the natural way it showed diversity in families in their extended family! No focus, just natural representation (which is the best kind!)!!!
Not to mention the two dads at the core of the story!
Cannot recommend this enough, and will have to buy a physical copy at some point!
Children's books about different kinds of families are some of my favorite books! It's so important to introduce kids to the fact that not all families are the cookie cutter "mom, dad, and 2.5 kids".
I thought it was adorable that Harper and Noah thought that because everyone at the family reunion was family, that meant that they all had to live together, that's definitely the kind of thing children would think of and it's a fair conclusion to make! A family reunion presents a great way to talk about how families can be very different even within a larger family setting.
I also found the comparison of family to a spider web and not a tree interesting and a good choice.
Thank you to NetGalley for making this available in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you to Netgalley for a Arc of this book!
This was incredibly adorable and a great read for any little reader! Wy😊
What a read! I loved the photos almost more than the read! The wallpaper pages full of hearts, the hugs family reunion photo and the cute shirts, and especially the "snowflake" (spiderweb haha) page where they discuss their "family web". Just amazing! This is definitely a piece of curriculum I will be adopting to share with my school colleagues (fellow teachers) and my school counselor. Our school counselor loves having books on divorce, different family makeups, different home lives, animals---you name it! This will be perfect to show that a family can have any number of people in it!

I know this book doesn't come out until FAR in the future, but the second I got approved for it, I downloaded and read it because I LOVE all family representation!
And how amazing that more and more books are coming out showing that ALL kinds of families exist and are important. 👏 👏 👏 👏 Obsessed. And the illustrations were beautiful!
And as a former foster, now adoptive mom, I love that even a foster kiddo was in the book! (That's so rare in kids' books!)
Sorry, I just simply couldn't wait for May to review! 😍 *Thank you @netgalley & The American Psychological Association for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review*
