This is a fun children’s book that explores the super powers we sometimes wish we had and how hard work can be a super power. The characters also use a little map and problem solving to make the bee’s paradise.
A very cute story about a community coming together for mutual benefit. Beautifully illustrated and engaging story. Even includes instructions for building a bee garden. Smart and wonderful, definitely recommend.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
The number of books that have been on my radar within the past couple of years about the bee crisis lead me to believe that bees are this generation's ozone layer. Talk about the hole in the ozone layer and it's danger and what was causing it seemed like a really big deal when I was a kid. Dwindling bee population seems to be becoming a pretty big deal now. The message in all the books is pretty clear. We need to act now before it's too late, just like we did for the ozone layer.
This story is about a young warthog (?) named Camilla who sees her bee friend struggling in his present environment to do his bee job, and she wants to help. She gathers her community to make the forest a more bee friendly environment with water stations and even more flowers closer to the hive. The story shows these steps helping the hive thrive, and they are easy enough things for humans to do in our own communities too. The message is subtle here, but it's definitely there.
The illustrations were a fun mix of the animal characters doing animal things and human things. They were clearly being humanized, but not completely. They really helped to show the story and the various steps that can be taken to help save our bee community, and probably other pollinators as well. Overall I give this book 4.36 out of 5 stars.
A wonderful story about a group of friends working together to help others. A great example that "super" powers aren't always super-charged, but extraordinary and individual to each person. With added notes in the back for adults, this is a great addition to any child's bookshelf.
Camilla uses her mapping skills with her friends to go find water and flowers to help make honey! This book shows friendship and helping each other. Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback!
We've become recent fans of Julie Dillemuth and were so excited to see a new book about Camilla. The bright illustrations really help bring the story to life. Camilla and Parsley are a fun duo, and the more in-depth discussions about mapmaking for parents in the note at the end of the book really adds value to an already wonderful picture book.
This was the first Camilla book I read with my child, and it will not be the last! We both loved the different animals in the story, and how Camilla becomes a super helper by making sure her bee friends have plenty of water and flowers.
Camilla, Super Helper, desires superpowers but can't figure out where she is most gifted. But then, her friend, Melli the bee, has a problem that Camilla focuses her efforts and discovers things about her self. The illustrations in this book are detailed and cute and colorful. The conversation flows naturally and provides context for some new words for kiddos.
This is a cute picture book with a sweet message. I love the idea that anyone can be a superhero just by doing something nice for someone else. The book also highlighted how it was easier and more fun to get things done with a friend. This book also exposes children to topics they may not be familiar with, bees and cartography. I love the extra information that is provided to parents/teachers at the end of the book to further students’ learning. A great read and one I would love to have in my classroom!
This is a fantastic book for showing how animals chipped in and used their special talents to help with bee conservation. They used cartography to help create a plan to carry out their mission. This has rich vocabulary for younger readers and sends the message that everyone can help make a difference.
Such a cute story! As an advocate for bees, I loved this books message. The art was adorable as well!
It is a hot, dry summer and the bees are struggling to find enough flowers and water so they can gather nectar and pollen to make their honey. The bees are in need of both food and water to complete their mission everyday and a summer drought is making their tasks almost impossible to achieve. Oh my!
Camilla, an avid cartographer, and her best friend Parsley help the bees out. Can Camilla use her mapping skills and her forest friends to help the bees find a solution to their problem?
This is a companion book to "Camilla, Cartographer". "Camilla, Super Helper" shines a light on bee conservation, spacial thinking and map reading. It highlights teamwork, community, and especially friendships.
The illustrations are detailed and engaging. The book is not only entertaining but also educational. Camilla does discover her superpower. She finds out that she is a skilled map-maker and very caring towards her friends. What is your superpower?
I love the inclusive, heartwarming message of the book and I highly recommend it.
We LOVED this book. Camilla, Super Helper highlights bee conservation, spacial thinking through map-making and map-reading, cooperation, community, and friendship as Camilla utilizes her cartography skills to mobilize her community to help her bee friends gain access to flowers and water after they experience climate change-related hardships.
The writing is smart and impactful, and the illustrations are beautiful and encourage lots of engagement. As a homeschooling parent, I adore good quality books that teach and entertain, and this book beautifully accomplishes both, with the added bonus of encouraging environmental stewardship. My family has already ordered more Camilla books, and I highly recommend this title!
Thank you to American Psychological Association and NetGalley for providing an advance reader copy for me to review. My family loved it!!
This is a very cute, well written, and intelligent picture book! The illustrations are darling! There is so much information in bite size pieces that will have children even more excited to be stewards of the earth. Great information throughout the book. Good ties to curriculum that definitely will make learning fun; including map making, and bee conservation.
