This is a nice basic idea book of many small embroidery designs. It starts with many pages of photos of groups of the designs with 16 to a page in categories like fruits and vegetables and favorite animals. The zodiac animals confused me at first because there’s a chicken and they didn’t look anything like the zodiac to me until I realized of course it’s the Chinese zodiac. Most of the options are random and incomplete like the fruits and vegetables include an avocado and grapes but not a banana or broccoli or apple or mushroom or most of them. The people are all little white children’s heads that look like they’re from a 1950s picture book.
Even though there are hundreds of designs it felt brief and most of them didn’t strike me as exceptionally cute. It has some of the weird “cute” kinds of things popular in some areas of the craft world right now like a bear in a cheeseburger. When I think of cute I think of things like mushrooms, elves, baby animals, rainbows and silly monsters. Those sorts of things are not in here but there are flowers, letters, deserts, fairy tale scenes (mostly ducks and wolves), everyday objects, cars and lots of other fun little motifs. The middle section is a very short tutorial on how to embroider and the second half is just small drawings of the same designs as the first half that are the patterns.
This will be a helpful sourcebook for embroidery ideas, though I’m not sure it succeeds in showing almost every cute thing you could embroider.
This really is the cutest how-to ever! Top tips for making everything, from pizza slices to tennis rackets - all of which have the maximum cuteness factor. Each stitch you’ll need is introduced and taught with accompanying photographs, and the actual patterns are clear, simple, and easy to follow - perfect for a total beginner or experienced sewer alike. This is a lovely book to help you bring all sorts of animals, food items, and objects to life through your needle. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Rockport Publishing and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
Could the 550 motifs in How to Embroider Almost Every Cute Thing possibly be any more charming? This short and sweet book explains the basics from materials to threading your needle to several stitches. Though I have been embroidering for many years, this imaginative book has inspired me to tuck away several ideas for Christmas gifts such as folk art flowers for a jewelry box lid, mouthwatering fruits for cloth napkins, animals such as a turtle and crab for a book bag and adorable motifs children will giggle over. I've already chosen the designs to embellish my apron, too!
Embroidery is a dying art but immensely gratifying and therapeutic. For me it is also a connection to the past when women worked tiny stitches with their hands and created beautiful things. Hopefully books such as this will appeal to more and more future stitchers who will revive it.
This book has something for every age and ability and I will buy it for one of my nieces who is into anything miniature and cute. What a thrilling discovery!
My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Rockport Publishing and NetGalley for the providing me with an early digital copy of this inspiring wee book.
This book has tiny motifs of almost anything you can imagine from everyday things like ketchup and mustard bottle to fairytale animals. The designs are small and simple to stitch but full of whimsy and detail. A how-to section gives excellent instruction for beginners. Each motif is pictured stitched and as an outline. A gallery of stitched items is included for inspiration.
I received this book as an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review of the contents.
As a complete beginner, I thought this would be a simple book to understand and I was wrong to go in with that assumption. Even though there are 550 motifs, that are all quite cute and adorable it's difficult to get into the spirit of it when I'm having to find other sources for the basic stitches. I had to read the instructions several times for me to understand what the writer was saying and that could be because I'm a visual learner. The bulk of the book is the patterns and sample pictures of how the patterns should look. Out of the 128 pages, only 10 pages were for actual instructions and two of those ten pages were for supplies. I think this book would be perfect for someone just looking for cute patterns but when it comes to learning the stitches you'll be stuck with very simple things until you can decipher the rest of the stitch tutorials. Overall the book is gorgeous for patterns and sample pictures not so much for the stitch tutorials.
A wonderful collection of lovely embroidery designs, accompanied by clear and concise tips and instructions.
This is really adorable. This book has a gallery of many designs by several artists, photos of different designs applied on fabrics and clothing, a how to guide that shows you how to start if you are a beginner. All the designs are ready for tracing and there are a lot of them. So basically everything you need to start stitching is in this book.
The designs are really cute, just as the titel says.
I never really did embroidery before, except when I was a kid and I am really inspired now to try it out.
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I have been embroidering for over 4 years now. I don't do it every single day so I'm not wildly skilled but I do have the basics down so take that into account but this book is so beginner friendly. Sometimes when I review craft books I notice that while it's marketed to beginners the skill required is much higher than that. That was not the case here!
Not only does the book show an image of what the design should look like when complete with thread, it also has an outline that includes the type of stitch being used then a full outlined image on the other page. I also love that this book includes the basic materials needed for a project as well as a full instruction on completing the types of stitches included in their designs. Also the designs themselves are super cute!
I will absolutely be buying a physical copy of this book when it releases so I can try free handing these designs.
How to Embroider Almost Every Cute Thing is a tutorial reference book of 550 varied motifs aimed at all levels from beginner to advanced. The pictures are wonderful and make it easy to select what you want. All sorts of items are included from animals to cheeseburgers and the motifs can be adapted to your own style. A super resource book for all crafty needle workers out there.
So many cute embroidery projects to try, complete with the guides on how to do them and stitching techniques! Fun book to have on hand for anyone looking to do mini embroidery projects on things!
I just want to take a second to appreciate the fact that the table of contents has actual pictures so you know what the design looks like too!! UGH so useful!!
this is a great book even for beginners! There's a ton of options and patterns to learn!
This book is… okay.
The patterns in it are very cute, can’t deny that. And there’s so many of them!! There’s a very wide variety of patterns to choose from, which is a plus.
However, the patterns are very bland, not in design, but in instructions. I find them very hard to follow, and not very intuitive.
For intermediate-advanced embroiderers this book will probably be great! But definitely not beginner friendly.
