As an artist, I enjoyed reading through Maricar Concepcion Ramos book on Modern Calligraphy. The book has much more to offer from the different styles of calligraphy to suggested projects, prompts and ideas. The colors are amazing and I definitely enjoyed the artwork!
The only negative for myself, personally, is that I am left-handed and this is my challenge.

This is a beautifully presented book to teach you modern calligraphy.

I never knew there was such a term as modern Calligraphy. This book teaches you, step by step by the talented author how to write beautiful swirling words in a number of different styles. Not only are there learning steps, but also practice pages that are great for mastering your technique.

This book is definitely one of those books which you can read and keep referring to as you practice and get better. It explains how to hold the pen, what pens & paper are best to use and how you can go wrong.

Learning the Art of Calligraphy

The author states that she struggled with stress and anxiety in her corporate job as an engineer, and she felt that she had no life outside of her cubicle so she wanted to try something new and break free from her everyday routine. Thus, began her journey with brush calligraphy.

She states that this book will guide readers on the recommended supplies for beginners, the fundamentals of brush calligraphy, how to find other lettering styles and techniques, and projects that will allow readers to express their creativity.

The author shares some of her favorite supplies, tips for practice, and some guidelines for practicing. Very nice book with some great tips and guidelines for anyone learning the art of art writing. Highly recommend.

This was a very nice introduction to calligraphy though I was very surprised that the author suggested that you should pick your pen up after every stroke. I have watched a number of videos and read another book and none of them suggest that approach. It seems to me that would add a large amount of time to your projects. I also really wish that the author had interspersed the practice sheets closer to the actual description of the fonts. Lots of font options in this book as well as some art work that can be done with your brush pens. I highly recommend buying a physical copy of this book.

Always wanted to give a go at calligraphy and this book seems to be a great step by step guide. I am just a bit frustrated that we only have the opportunity of an ebook as we can't practice it, and try. But overall I really liked the way that the book shows the differents techniques and the little exercises and guide to practice and improve. I am just wondering if it will look good and if it's really doable for left handed.

This is a great book for beginners wanting to learn calligraphy. Modern Calligraphy allows one to be as creative as you want to be. Like art, calligraphy is a hobby that requires lots of practice to master. It is refreshing that the author states that clearly. I've found many occasions to put learning calligraphy to good use.

The author did an excellent job, including everything you need to become successful at calligraphy. Modern Calligraphy started with the basics of tools and materials. It does a great job covering the fundamentals of brush lettering. It's nice the practice sheets are included. I loved all the photos, illustrations and step-by-step tutorials. It made learning a new skill less overwhelming and more approachable.

I found the spacing of letters pretty neat. My favorite section was definitely the embellishments. I found it so fun and therapeutic! Finally, it's so important to learn all the calligraphy rules, so you can break them in fun and interesting ways and develop your own modern writing style.

Very good book for beginners. I participated in a calligraphy class a couple years ago but I haven’t been practicing so this book helped me remember some of the techniques. It teaches the basics, shows some projects and inspirations and there are some pages for you to practice as well. This is a beautiful calligraphy guide!

This book includes full alphabet examples, pre-created templates, and information on learning calligraphy. I appreciate that this book has a variety of fonts and quotes instead of sticking with the basics of both you see in most lettering books. The back of the book has different quotes and styles that you can copy or learn from. While it's not the most in depth guide, it is a helpful guide that's approachable for beginners.

This book is absolutely perfect for beginners to calligraphy! It starts with tips on pens and paper and builds from there to basic strokes and when to turn from a light stroke to a heavy one and from there to different kinds of strokes and beyond to more complicated techniques but at a pace that is easy to follow and understand. When you add in the practice pages and all the tips and how to this book is an amazing instructional guide into the wonderful world of calligraphy!

Such a great book! I really like the step by step directions.. It's great for those that are beginners and are trying to learn calligraphy. Definitely recommend!

A good primer on the fundamentals of calligraphy.

Maricar Concepcion Ramos shares the key skills for modern calligraphy, from making the first strokes and letters to flourishing and designing layouts for art pieces. I appreciated the clear step-by-step guides and the opportunities to practice throughout the book. She gives easy tips and tricks for some of the more complicated parts of calligraphy, such as letter spacing and adding appropriate flourishes.

If you've been curious about trying out modern calligraphy, I definitely think this book would be a great place to give you some of the fundamentals so that you can develop your own practice.

A pretty good beginner guide for hand lettering, but nothing groundbreaking. If you're new to it, this is a good start but not an end all be all.

A great quick and detailed books for learning modern calligraphy.

I have a few brush lettering/calligraphy books, and I found this to be the most comprehensive. I love that it covers not only the basics, it also includes flourishes and provides exercises along with illustration elements. This is perfect for a beginner wondering where to take their hobby next. It was also an excellent length, some calligraphy books are pretty short, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that this one had plenty of chapters.

I’ve been getting really in to hand lettering and art recently as I prepare my book bullet journal for 2023. Modern Calligraphy is a great introduction to the world of hand lettering. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to expand your techniques, this book has lots of tips and practice pages to work with.

A really beautifully written guide to modern calligraphy. I've thoroughly enjoyed working through the exercises, and found it to be broken down into really easy to understand, manageable steps. I also loved the examples scattered throughout the book - especially how to make stunning typographical art that is hand drawn from scratch. Highly recommend this book for those new to modern calligraphy, and experienced calligraphers looking to enhance their knowledge!

The book is aimed at beginners and focusses on fun rather than strict techniques. It is full of colourful pictures and inspiring ideas. Overall a great book..

This is a beautiful and well compiled book. The graphics and pictures are beautiful and it includes practice sheets as well. It covers simple lettering, bouncy lettering, serif and sans serif, as well as flourishes. Very thorough. I love that the author also goes through helpful tips on finding your own style and how to composing your own artwork and layouts. As a hand lettering business owner as well, I would highly recommend this book.

Very nice book on modern calligraphy, with everything needed for a beginner or intermediate calligrapher who wants to improve their skills. You get all the step-by-step instructions with pictures, exemplars (my favourite to have!), flourishing (love that too!) and pretty projects you can start on almost right away.

To me, this is the book to get for anyone wanting to do brush calligraphy.
