This was a fun book that allows you to laugh (instead of cry) about just how messy the world can be sometimes. It was quick and light, a definite easy read.
Thanks NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Audio for this audiobook!
*4.5
This was so much fun. Not only were the jokes stuff I could relate to. But I feel like men could really benefit from listening to this to see these things from a woman's gaze. Overall, it was short and sweet and I enjoyed my time.
Jokes to Offend Men was available as a Read Now Audiobook on NetGalley and it’s such a quick book, just over an hour, it’s totally worth the listen to have some giggles and outright laughs at traditional sexist jokes turned on their heads. It’s also quite a heady read that makes one think about traditional gender roles, misogyny, and sexism in various settings. There are bits that are much more political, but they are spurred by the patriarchy established in politics, so they absolutely fit in this book. I’ll give it 5 stars for being intelligent AND funny and such an easy listen.

This missed the mark for me. I didn't find any of it funny except for maybe a very small handful.
It's important to note that this wasn't strictly jokes to offend *just* men.
I'd say these were less "jokes" and more so just a way for the collaborative authors to speak their minds in a less confrontational way.
This was narrated by three women, and I really only enjoyed listening to one of them - I believe that was Cortney Wright.
I got the message of this book, and there are some novel jokes in the book, but I just found it to be a bit much and bordering on cringe
A literal joke book to offend men.
Hilarious, Simple, Effective. This short book is ideal to keep on your desk, coffee table or bedside table to bring out when you need a quick laugh.
4 stars because I would have like a few longer jokes for variety.
It’s an odd audiobook. It would work better as a physical book but the narrators were fun and did a great job.
This was a quick fun little read. Great for a coffee table book that people will actually look at!
This addressed so many things women deal with due to the patriarchy: toxic masculinity, male privilege, how the media/movies/books depict and treat women, the politicization of bodies.
I hope they are making a pocket sized one so you can take it with you everywhere to combat the idiocy coming out of people's mouths every day. The jokes for holiday parties were especially good.
A la Ginny Hogan, Chelsea Handler, The Lady Gang
Here are a few of my favorite jokes: "What happened when the husband increased his wife's "allowance"? An allowance? What is she, his child? What the fuck?""
"What do men and exclamation points have in common? They make you doubt your professionalism and ultimately you don't need as many as you think." LOL
"Where do babies come from? Conservative law makers have no clue but that won't stop them from legislating away reproductive rights."
"I like my men like I like my potatoes: ROASTED"
I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars really.
It had lots of jokes and was a very fun to read. The jokes weren't laugh out loud funny, but were entertaining and would make men uncomfortable like the title says. It's a quick read and would be fun to try out with friends on a night out.
Some of these were really funny, and some of them were more sad because they were so true. This is a timely book, and while I'm not typically an audiobook fan, I loved this because the jokes were told by the different women.
This was a quick fun read. My only complaint (which is kind of my fault) is I think the ebook of this book would be a better read than the audiobook because I prefer to go back and read jokes again.
My favorite "joke" has to be: if boys will be boys what will everyone else be? blamed.
The narrator’s voices seemed squeaky and unappealing.
I did not care for the book. Some of the jokes were funny, but some were just not funny.
I cannot tell you how much I needed this book 10 years ago but STILL it is incredible. Working in feminism as my day job, I've heard everything possible and having a little giggle really does cure a blue day. Highly recommend it if you want a laugh.
I was somewhat entertained by this, but overall it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I didn't find any of the jokes that clever or funny, they mostly just seemed like women being annoyed by men. Which, I mean, I definitely get, I just wanted something a little beyond that. I did chuckle a few times, but mostly this collection made me feel tired, without the sense of levity I was hoping for.
It does seem like this has hit the mark for most readers though, so hopefully I'm an outlier!
I have both audiobook and physical/ebook copies - the audiobook is read well, with the authors alternating sections, which I think was a great way to do it. The physical and ebook editions have a few fun illustrations sprinkled throughout, which I really enjoyed.
If you need a quick book to make you laugh but also a little bit angry this is the one for you. The narration of the book is great, it feels like your friends joking with you but the printed version would be the best gift. This would make a great coffee table book.
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Audio and NetGalley for the ALC.
Netgalley likes their reviews to be at least 100 words long, but after listening to Jokes to Offend Men there is really only one word that could sum up this book. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I laughed so hard to almost every single joke.
5 stars
I like my Men like I like my Oven….. SELF CLEANING!
This book is full of jokes and snappy comebacks for that DB at your workplace.
You now have a place you can find them all. THIS BOOK.
I laughed at some, and said OH NO and shook my head to some. This book can get you in trouble. But it’s all in good fun. Narration was good. A little dry.
I received a free audiobook copy of this book for my unbiased review.
Jokes to Offend Men is such a fun and quick listen! I definitely laughed out loud several times. The jokes are organized into different themed sections and leaves no man unroasted. I really loved the narration and hearing the inflection and tones that added to the jokes. I immediately looked up all of the authors so I could follow more of their work!
These were super fun and it was such a lighthearted (yet still kick in the pants type) read.
Some of the jokes are super close to home, which I know is the point, but made me laugh. I feel like men need to read these because of how on the nose they are
"Jokes To Offend Men" is an extremely feminist and funny book. The authors take comments and jokes that women hear in their daily lives and turn them into comments about sexism and other topics such as, for example, the legalization of abortion, and into responses to these jokes, made by men who say that women's place is in the kitchen and by doctors who don't make a correct diagnosis because "women are exaggerated" and therefore their pain is never enough to make an exam they need.
As a man, this book really opened my eyes to certain sexist, disrespectful and dangerous situations in which women are placed because there are men who still live in the last century and dont recognize that women are human beings with the same universal rights as them.
This is an important book, a necessary book. It can, simultaneously, make us laugh and make us aware of these situations.
5 stars.
Fabulous, funny and way-too-true! This volume of jokes pretty much sums up the inequity that women face everyday, with humour and sass. It keeps you laughing the whole time (so that you don't cry!!).
I will say though, this is a very rare instance where I would have personally preferred the physical book to the audio version (though the audiobook is super well read). Or, this would have been a great audiobook to listen to a bit at a time, during several communtes. It was just so good that I would have preferred to stretch it out over many days to keep the goodness going!
I basically recommend this to each and every woman and femme with a sense of humour!
Huge gratitude to Andrews McMeel Audio and Netgalley for an advanced audiobook copy of this book, in exchange for my honest review.
