This one had me in the first chapter. The characters were likeable, the pacing was enjoyable, and the storyline was entertaining. All in all, a relatively quick, sweet, coming-of-age romance that I would recommend to my romance reading friends. Will keep an eye on Preece for future works.

The Short Story: A Little Bit Country; A Little Bit Rock and Roll.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing was perfect and helped to build the characters. Every character, even the background characters, were very dynamic. They each had their own stories, pasts, passions, fears.

Thank you NetGalley.

I DNF this one. It dragged on in many places. If I’m honest I can see the potential it failed to pan out.

"Whiskey On Our Shoes" offers a captivating glimpse into the entanglements of past troubled relationships and the challenges of evading the harsh glare of celebrity life. While the book's title suggests a lighthearted, humorous, and romantic adventure, it unfolds to deliver much more depth and substance.

The central characters, Eva and Alex, possess youthfulness without immaturity, courage to embrace new experiences, and a prudent wariness of repeating past mistakes. Their hesitation to reveal their innermost secrets feels genuine and relatable, resonating with readers of all ages.

Eva grapples with a strained relationship with her mother and strives to keep her brother, battling alcoholism, on the path to sobriety. Alex, a college student, is haunted by an ex-girlfriend who threatens his future happiness, and his own family bears its share of complications.

Eva, the offspring of supermodel and rock royalty parents, struggles to find her identity, while Alex, hailing from a tranquil rural town, has secrets of his own. When their paths cross, sparks fly, but both harbor secrets they are determined to protect. The question arises: can they trust one another, or will their respective pasts drive a wedge between them?

Ms. Preece skillfully weaves an engaging and well-paced narrative that feels contemporary, fresh, and appealing to romance enthusiasts of all generations. The book's emphasis on consent is commendable, and while the romance unfolds more gradually than some may prefer, it suits the characters and the story. The portrayal of family dynamics, from the strength of Alex's family bonds to the dysfunction within Eva's, mirrors the complexities of real-life relationships.

In summary, "Whiskey On Our Shoes" is a delightful YA read, brimming with glitz, glamour, and the charm of rural life. It offers a richly layered story that explores various themes. I recommend giving it a read—it's definitely worth it!

I extend my gratitude to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.

This seemed very promising. Some of what I read was funny and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the pacing was a bit too inconsistent for me, and I ended up DNFing.

This is a good book. The two main characters are Eva and Alex. Eva is the daughter of a famous model and a rock star. Alex is a college student, who had an affair with a married (who he didn’t know was married) woman. There was an instant attraction. They each had trust issues but together they worked them out and fell in love.

I went into this book on a whim not expecting anything out of it, but oh man did I love it. It was such an unexpected and surprising enjoyment.

I immediately felt emerged in the story, I loved the writing and felt so connected to these characters. Not only did I love the main characters but also the supporting ones!

The chapters were also short, which I love in books. Therefore, I flew through the book and found it so easy to get through.

I enjoyed the small-town setting and the cowboy with an ex-girlfriend who is 14 years older than him 😂 this book had me laughing a few times!

While most of the plot took place towards the end of the book, I was intrigued from page one. I only bumped half a star because I feel like the ending could’ve been dragged a bit more - it did make sense though and I enjoyed it!

I had a great time reading this book. I picked it up on a whim, but I immediately fell in love with the story and characters. I would highly recommend this small-town romance!

Whiskey on Our Shoes by Tonya Preece follows anonymously famous Eva Covington as she ventures through life trying to hide from her famous family while exploring her interest and dating. Alex, the male main character, is the other POV for this story. He has had a previous relationship with an older, married woman, and he is worried his connection with the potentially famous Eva could damage her reputation.

Honestly, this book really wasn't for me. The author had too many moving pieces to really dig into solid character development: age gap trope, married romance, complicated family, famous family, missing fingers, tiny homes, reclaimed furniture, hidden family history, and the list goes on. Many of these things felt like a distraction from really getting to know our characters and seeing how the story unfolds. I truly thing the plot line had great potential, but I think execution inhibited it.

While this is a debut novel, I am interested to see how this author grows in future releases.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book.

I enjoyed Eva and Alex’s story. However, there were parts of this book that were moved on from too fast or went on for too long. I wish that certain plant points would have been addressed more.

This looked like it would be a more interesting read than it was. There were some funny moments but overall nothing that I would read again and I did feel like it was hard to get through and push myself to read until the end.

I chose this book because of the title. It wasn’t what I thought this book was going to be. It was a fun read at times but I was bored most of the time and I had to fight with myself to stay focused on what I was reading. This book was definitely not for me.

While the premise of the book was somewhat interesting, the pace felt slow and the book felt long. I did not finish it.

I’m not going to lie I mostly picked this one up for the title. But I got a story about a young woman trying to find herself. While dealing with her crazy family. All way being filled with moments of humor and sass.

Whiskey on Our Shoes by Tonya Preece is a sweet romantic comedy that drives into the relationships between a small town cowboy and the daughter of a celebrity.

I really liked the characters in this novel. Alex is a sweet, kind cowboy from a smaller town outside of Austin. He holds a dark secret from everyone in his life that haunts him daily. When he meets Eva through her rambunctious brother he is instantly drawn to her. Eva has her own secrets to hide and lives constantly on edge of her true identity coming to light. Together we form a sweet relationship that is built off of their abilities to be their true selves around each other. Their relationships is tested when those secrets come to life.

I liked the small town cowboy, Alex. He was kind, respectful, and charming as a character. I appreciated the fact that he didn't press her to do anything she didn't want to do and always asked for her consent first. He let her move the pace at her rate and didn't force her to do anything she wasn't ready for. The only complaint I have is about how he seems like a love struck puppy dog. She could literally do no wrong and it felt a little inauthentic to real relationships. Our partners often annoy us as humans so it would have been nice to see a bit more of that.

I really liked Eva's character and could understand her paranoia about her famous family. I found her to be a pretty realistic character though sometimes I found her to be overly trusting. She had to be hurt by many people for her to learn to be little bit more cautious and to not believe what everyone tells you. I found her to be a bit too trusting of her family even though there was clearly dysfunction within it.

I found the supporting characters to be well developed. I wasn't a huge fan of her mom, which I think was the Tonya Preece's intention. I really liked her brother though I wish we could have gotten more development from his character. He seemed to be a troubled person and to observe his struggles without any resolution fell a bit short. I thought the story was well paced, it was a pretty quick read for me, which I enjoyed. I probably wouldn't read it again but I would definitely encourage other's to read it if they are looking for a fun, quick rom com book.

Thank you to publishers, Tonya Preece, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review "Whiskey on Our Shoes". This review is 100% authentic and my own personal opinions on the novel.

What a great story! I would categorize this as a YA romance. There's secrets and heartache and crazy ex's ..OH MY! I loved the development between Eva and Alex. It's very refreshing to read a romance about a truly genuine MMC. Misunderstanding occur, but NO cheating! And of course a HEA. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the story felt like it abruptly ended, I wasn't necessarily left wanting but I felt it could have wrapped a little differently to feel more finished.

Technically the book is good, characters are developed and grow throughout the story, and each of their stories are entertaining. However, the story read more like a television show script, fitting for her family though. Then there are the secrets, that is a rollercoaster. I will enjoy watching this author grow, this is a debut effort.

Thank you to NetGalley and Champagne Book Group for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

I liked this book! From the pacing to the characters, I was hooked from the beginning! I love how the author delved into each character and created well rounded people. I loved the short chapters, made it easier to read quickly! This was a great read!

In short, this story is about a young woman with a famous family who prefers to stay out of the spotlight, who begins dating a cowboy in a small town, who harbors a secret that his ex-girlfriend is 14 years older than he is.

What I loved:
-I felt like the author mastered exposition really well. She used it to her advantage to get through more mundane aspects of the story, so important scenes could stand in the lime light.
-The chapters were short and to the point, making it easily digestible and perfect for when you only have a few minutes at a time.
-I really liked most of the characters and appreciated their strengths and weaknesses. For example: Lor allows Eva to live with him, he appears to care about his sister, but is struggling with alcohol dependence and has been caught lying at times. But as the story goes on, we see him improve with a positive character arc.
-It's a quick, easy read that held my attention.

In my opinion, the only weakness is that the *major* conflict doesn't appear to until around 80 percent of the book. All other conflict and tension felt too light for me, and resolved pretty quickly.
