I love bees and was eager to read this. But I felt as if the bees and hives got a little lost in the mystery. It was an upbeat story though.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance read.
Take the Honey and Run is the first book in this promising new series. Raised by Granny Bee, successful author Bailey Briggs returns home to Honeybuzz Mountain Ranch to help her grandma after she suffered a bad fall . When the founder of their town is murdered and the murder weapon turns out to he honey from her granny's ranch. Granny becomes the prime suspect. Bailey pulls out all the stops to clear her granny's name, often butting heads with the handsome local sheriff. This was a light hearted, fast paced, well plotted mystery with a little romance thrown in. I loved the characters. Especially feisty Granny Bee, This was a page turner and I was very surprised by whodunnit. I cant wait to read the next book in this series. Thank you to the publisher and to netgalley for providing me with an advance readers copy.
TAKE THE HONEY AND RUN is highly recommended for fans of cozy mysteries. The story is fast-paced, and the author does a great job at keeping the reader's interest. The setting is lovely! And who doesn't love a bee-keeping grandma?
At the beginning, there are a lot of names/characters thrown at the reader. However, that's often a challenge with cozies as we need to be introduced to many people in the village or town. I didn't have a problem with it, and I thought the author handled it well.
There's quite a bit of romance and hints of further romance.
The mystery itself is super entertaining and keeps you guessing until the killer is revealed.
Just finished this title and really enjoyed it. It was light hearted, had the perfect amount of sweet romance without getting too over the top. The characters were fun as well and I didn’t end up guessing who it was fully, but they were in the back as a maybe until the whole truth was revealed.
I know this is the first book of this series, but I am looking forward to more. I want to know how things go between some of the characters.
It reminds me of a summer version of a hallmark movie but with a little more murder mystery attached. The only negative thing was a noticed a few grammatical errors that had me stumbling in a few sentences.
Cozy mysteries have a tendency to feel stuck in the past, this book/series comes across as modern without trying too hard. Characters are likeable and multi-dimensional, the puzzles weren't solved with the easiest solution, just enough twists to maintain believability. Will definitely pick up the next book in the series, would love a little more attention on the town and ranch complex to give the a little more of a 'cozy' feel.
This is an enjoyable cozy with a bit of romance. Ms. Marts adds humor and intrigue to a tale of family reunited and a second chance at love for one of the senior women...maybe even for the lead character at a later date. The murdered man has many acquaintances who would have liked to do him in, with numerous reasons. Bailey and Rosa are determined to check them all out, frequently encountering Sheriff Dunn, especially where they were not supposed to be. Recipes at the end for those who enjoy them.
It moves along well and kept me into the tale. I requested and received a NetGalley ARC and recommend for all cozy lovers.
Take the Honey and Run is the debut of the A Bee Keeping Mystery series set in Humble Hills, Colorado and featuring mystery author Bailey Briggs. Bailey was raised by her grandmother Blossom Briggs, aka Granny Bee before leaving for California. When Granny calls to say that she's broken her foot and needs some help on her farm, Bailey packs up her belongings and her daughter Daisy and returns to her hometown.
On arrival in Humble Hills, Bailey witnesses a confrontation between her Grandmother and town founder, Werner Humble. It turns out that Werner had been carrying on relationships with members of Granny's book club "The Hive", and then had the nerve to make a pass at her. Werner is found dead in his home, with the remains of honey smeared around his mouth, and Granny who raises bees alongside her two sisters, Aster and Marigold soon becomes the prime suspect.
Determined to keep her Granny out of jail, Bailey ignores warnings from Sheriff Sawyer Dunn to mind her own beeswax and alongside childhood best friend Evie Espinoza sets out to smoke out a killer. Plenty of suspects rise to the surface as Bailey discovers that Werner had a nasty tendency to use older women and also collect all kinds of information on townspeople that he could use for blackmail should the occasion arise.
A fun, fast paced mystery with likable characters, a furry companion, and just the right touch of romance. Several things about Bailey remain a mystery and there is no doubt that we will learn more about her in future installments. Truly, a great afternoon read.
I received an advanced copy of Take the Honey and Run from NetGalley via Crooked Lane. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
This is a fun, fast paced cozy mystery with some great characters.
Bailey's grandmother finds herself in hot water when someone is found, dead, and the apparent cause of death is allergic reaction.
This story intrigued me and I found it easy yo follow along.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

What a fun book. I enjoyed everything about this story - the characters are fantastic, the storyline is great. Thanks for a perfect escape book.
I just reviewed Take the Honey and Run by Jennie Marts. #TaketheHoneyandRun #NetGalley. I loved this cozy!! Seriously couldn't get enought of it and read it in one sitting. But that ending! I didn't have the killer on my radar at all! I love a book that has a writer as one of the main characters. Throw in some family, best friends, old loves and a dog. I Seriously curled up under a warm blanket and got lost in the story it was so good. Would highly recommend this book. Can't wait for the next one to come out.
Take the Honey and Run was a very enjoyable read. I was a bit surprised at the ending as I the killer was only barely on my radar. (I usually have the murdered figured out at some point, even if I change my mind later.)
Werner Humble, the Mayor of Humble Hills is not a nice man. Few people are surprised when he is found dead. Unfortunately, Granny Bee threatened to kill him the day before the murder - in front of a LOT of witnesses. Most of those witnesses would likely have helped her do the deed.
Granny's granddaughter and great-granddaughter have just come for a visit and are also there when the threat is made. The granddaughter, Bailey, is sure that Granny didn't do it. As a mystery writer, she feels compelled to do what she can to prove Granny Bee's innocence. Can she do it in time? Will she put herself in a dangerous situation in the process? (Yes, you know she will.) granddaughter
