I enjoyed this book and look forward to sharing my thoughts once the HarperCollins Union strike has ended. Until then, I stand in solidarity with the union!
I think Lahey is such a great protagonist. Not only is she confident, funny, and beautiful (which makes for great plus size rep) but she also learns a lot about herself and totally reads like a 17 year old. Adler was the perfect mix between sweet and snarky and I can't wait for you to fall in love with him too. Overall, this book was great and I think everyone should read it.
Honestly, I should have noticed the author before requesting this book. Her last one was so bad I said I would never read another of her items. However, I thought I would give this one a shot and having gone through it, I now stand on what I said before. This author does not make likeable characters; I want characters I can get behind and root for, and the author lacks in this department. Will not be referring this to people.
This is a cute story that feels a little familiar: a skilled matchmaker struggling to find love for herself (and finding help along the way from her best friend's brother who also happens to be the boy next door).
At times, Lahey is a pretty frustrating protagonist, and it's hard to ignore the fact that almost all of her problems are a direct result of her own actions or her frequent stretches of the truth. Still, this book is a lot of fun! I couldn't put it down, and I was really invested in the characters and in seeing how everything would come together in the end.
Thank you to HarperTeen and NetGalley for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Lahey is a matchmaker in heaven for everyone but herself. She’s always trying to set someone with someone. On top of being a matchmaker, she is also dealing with the drama between her and her cousin Summer. When Summer says that Lahey will be without a date for her party, Lahey decides to try and find her own match.
I had high hopes for this book. I was excited for the main character to be plus size. I was intrigued with the plot. I really liked to see that Lahey was okay in her own skin. The only issue I had, is that it felt as if the stereotypes of fat people was her only personality trait. Now I’m plus size myself and I’m on the journey to love my own body. It was if the book was just screaming the stereotypes of fat people don’t like to work out or fat people eat a lot. Now, I can see the different perspectives that the author was trying to come across, it just felt icky.
Now, in now means am I saying this is a horrible book or the author is bad. I did enjoy the characters and the plot. It was not boring. I finished it within four hours. I really liked Adler. The writing was great. The issues I had wasn’t big enough to cause me to DNF. I really appreciated that Lahey was open about herself being fat. It was nice to see a main character be sort of similar to me.
It was my cup of tea with the wrong type of sugar if that makes sense.
3.5 🌟
As someone who was plus-size like Lahey and is still... I totally felt her insecurity, her jealousy. Ofc I didn't have a cousin to compete with but I did understand her desperation. I didn't realise this was a teen romance and it clearly shows in the characters' behaviour. I could have killed them all at one point but overall, a cute fast paced book.
I won't be giving my full review here until the HarperCollins Union is given a fair contract.
I didn't really like this book. This was my first book by this author and I don't know if I will be picking up the rest.
this book was so adorable and fun and it was so easy to read. i found myself engrossed by lahey’s adventures to find a date, and the sheer chaos of some of the moments was endearing and captivating and made me want to keep reading. this was such a fun and quick-paced ya romance and i didn’t want it to end !!
thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC on this book in exchange for my honest review!
Didn’t get to see much of the FMC’s personality because the majority of the book was about a teen girl rivalry, the romance was cute but left me wanting so much more.
2.5/5 stars! I feel like the premise worked for a YA romcom book, but the follow-through didn't. We were told that Lahey is this sweet, kind person who plays matchmaker for all of her friends, but we don't see any of that energy from her. Instead, she is mean and petty and vicious for the majority of the book. To the point that I don't see what Adler sees in her. I will say, however, that Adler was a dreamboat. I would have liked 1,000 more pages of him.

I loved this book! I was so excited for this release and it exceeded all my expectations. I would 10/10 recommend!
This was such a cute, wholesome rom-com! I love that the main character, Lahey, is plus-sized, and that she feels completely confident in her body (which is so refreshing)! During many moments in the book, Lahey is fun and funny and you can tell that she has a big heart—but a lot of the plot is centered around a petty, blown-out-of-proportion feud that Lahey has with her cousin. I found this feud to be a bit childish, and it made me dislike Lahey sometimes (when I really wanted to absolutely adore her!) The romance is cute, if a little predictable (and somewhat rushed—I wish we'd had more time at the end of the book to see Lahey and her love interest together). Overall, this is a good option if you're just looking for a quick read and a sweet story about young love and personal growth.

Highly Recommend this book. I have never read a book with this kind of storyline, and it was so cute. This book is different from other YA romance books I have read because the title doesn't give away the result, but it tells you the book's overall concept. Overall the book was excellent and flowed well.
A super cute story about learning that you do not need to pretend to be someone you're not. In this story, Lahey is constantly second-guessing and molding herself into a person she is not to make a series of guys want to go on a date with her. Throughout these dates, Lahey realizes how unhappy she is with how she is acting and decides to make amends to everyone she has hurt and stop putting on the facade she was showing off.
This book was a fun read with lighthearted moments but also deep moments of self realization and the importance of family.
A romantic comedy that is ultimately a journey of growth for Lahey as she struggles to find someone to be her plus one at her cousin’s sweet 16 part. Lahey is genuinely a 16-year-old girl with all her flaws and foibles. Add in that she is a confident plus sized beauty and she’s a delightful character. Adler is a wonderful mix of snark and sweetness as he is there for Lahey at every turn, whether she wants him to be or not. You’ll alternately cheer Lahey on and want to smack her for not seeing what is so obviously in front of her. This was an enjoyable read that will be perfect for a summer escape.
#PlusOne #NetGalley Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this novel. I encourage you to check this one out!

I love Kelsey Rodkey books and this was no exception! Plus One was an excellent read. The characters are vibrant and well-developed and I loved the pacing--from the first page this book had that perfect feeling of being dropped off in a place I already sort of knew and learning more with every page.
Lahey's struggle to find a date (and some of the less-than=flattering behavior that ensues as a result) is belieable and plays into many themes of image and self-respect that are super important in the YA age group. Highly recommend for a YA comtemporary read!
I enjoyed this book so much! Kudos to the author. I loved lahney and Adler! I wish we had gotten more of him! I do wish the book had gone at a slower pace.

5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Lahey Johnson is such a relatable character. She is always so helpful for her friends even strangers and is a professional for getting people together. She seems to be really good at finding someone’s perfect match except for herself. Summer Lahey’s cousin is having a birthday party and she doesn’t get a plus one because her cousin doesn’t think she can find a date.
Lahey will do anything to prove that she can get a date to Summer’s party—anything, including juggle six prospective suitors in seven days
Lahey starts are journey and starts noticing that her sisters BFF Adler keeps popping up everywhere. Soon enough she starts to wonder if she’s doomed and never find a date.. But as the party creeps closer, the panic sets in. Can a matchmaker ever really meet her own match?
I loved reading this and all the characters, and feeling like I was right there along with Lahey on her journey. She’s very funny, relatable and easy to fall in love with. Adler and his personality were to die for. He was always willing to help her.
Overall, this book really gave me serotonin and I really enjoyed it. I’d recommend it.

I love a good coming of age story. While somewhat predictable, it was still a great escape into the world of teenage drama. I really liked how they kept the experience authentic with the kids making mistakes and learning some tough lessons. i also really appreciated that while the main character was described as plus size, they never specifically identified what size she was or how much she weighed. That allowed the reader to come to their own conclusions. Definitely worth a read for those who like a cute escape into high school.
