This is an urban fantasy with paranormal investigations as the theme. Arkady is sarcastic, snarky, strong-willed, confident, and determined. This book was a fairly quick and easy read. I liked how packed this book was with action and romance. I enjoyed the snarky back-and-forth between the characters. TBH, I always enjoy sass. The storyline kept me wondering what was coming next.
Great read, lots of action a suspense. Will keep you reading to the end. When a fallen angel, now bounty hunter tries to keep a client safe he runs into Arkady! She’s in the process of killing two demons in a most unusual way!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
I’m reading this book having not read the Alice Worth series. This book is a spin off from that series. There were a few references to the Alice Worth series which I don’t feel impacted my reading of this series. I feel that this book can be read as a standalone. Having read this I will definitely check out other books from this author.
This book was a fun and easy read. The world building was great and I felt I could imagine exactly what I was reading. The plot was great and fast paced with lots of action for the start. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two characters Ronan and Arkady and enjoyed the build up and the flirting between the two.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an eARC copy of this book in exchange for my review.
This is the latest book in the Alice Worth 'Broken World ' series - please note Alice does not feature in this book
Arkady Woodall used to work for the Vampire Court but has teamed up with Alice as her new partner in their Investigation business .
Ronan broke angelic law to save millions - his punishment - to have his wings removed and his power bound
When these two meet sparks fly , literally , a kidnapping is in progress ......... a mystery ensues , just what is going on ? who can be trusted ? It is only by working together that they might have a chance of survival ........ but secrets cannot remain hidden - what will the outcome be ?
Another entertaining romantic fantasy by the Author - I look forward to reading more in this world in the future
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
A fast paced book with brilliant characters with a lot of heat a chemistry between them. I didn't realise it was a spinoff of another series until the end but it doesn't suffer for this and is easily read as a stand alone, although now I know there is a sequel as well I can't wait! It had me gripped from the start, demons, fallen angels and Valkyrie all mixed together - bound to be explosive. And it is.

Alice Worth World, Book 1

Oh good, back to Alice Worth and her world. Alice isn't in this book, but her new business partner Arkady and Ronan, who we met towards the end of the series are the main characters. They're both interesting people, with difficult histories that make them very much like Alice, strong mentally and physically and finding it difficult to mix easily, having little patience with the mundane.
I adored the Alice worth series, one of my fantasy favourites, with many side characters who have a story to tell. I hope ;-) So I jumped into this eagerly and wasn't disappointed. Unlike AW series this one seems to be connected books rather than an overarching story-line. I don't mind, I like both.
I really enjoyed this book, it wasn't quite as gripping as the Aw books but very close. I loved being back in that familiar world.
They come together in an investigation that turns out to be part of a bigger ring and they have a joint purpose in ending it even though they clash – badly, or terrifically depending on your POV!. Of course there's the trademark clashes, dangers, bad guys and problems taking them down that slowly bring Ronan and Arkady closer, finding out they actually like and admire each other and its not just the sizzling sexual tension that's pulling them together.
Stars: Four, a great read, terrific start to new series – I hope !!

Thank you to NetGalley and Lisa Edmonds for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
this was a fun read that I thought was really well written. I felt like the detailed descriptions provided beautiful imagery as I was reading. I’m not typically a fan of everything happening over a 12 hour span because it feels like a lot at once and it sometimes overwhelms the reader. That is what I felt slightly with this book. Overall, I did enjoy it and it was a fun read!
I love the Alice Worth series, so when I found out Lisa Edmonds was doing a spin-off I couldn't wait. Spin-offs can be hit or miss for me, but this is definitely a hit. We're introduced to Ronan and Arkady in the Alice Worth series, but I loved learning more about them and watching their relationship develop. We get to see a deeper side of Arkady in this novel, while also enjoying her snarkiness and sass. I also loved the steam in this book, it was definitely steamier than I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise! This book has action, excitement, relationship-building, and steam. I do think getting an introduction to Ronan and Arkady in the Alice Worth series was helpful before reading this book, just to have some backstory before diving in. I will definitely continue to read the books in the series, and I'm constantly recommending all of Lisa Edmonds' books.
When I requested this I didn't realize that it was an offshoot of an entire other series. I read a bunch of reviews from others than had read the main stories and they all pretty much said you should read it first. Well, I don't have $40 to spend on the books so I just dove into this one hoping that I'd be okay. And you know what? I was. While reading the Alice Worth series prior would have made a difference in some things that were mentioned, I didn't think that it was necessary to fully enjoy this one. Because I tell you, enjoy it I did.
Truly, the only thing that I really would have liked to have read more about (that I assume was all covered in Alice's series) was the aftermath of Ronan's fall. We start with him having just been released from his prison, carved up, and asking for his damaged body to be left at Alice's. Then we jump ahead to when he's already left her place and doing his own work. I wanted what happened during the in between and can only assume we didn't get it because it was already told.
I think that Ronan and Arkady were absolutely perfect together. I do so love when an author writes adult characters that actually act like adults, and these two were that. Too often I find that female characters that are written to be a badass are wholly unbelievable, but Arkady worked for me. She had skills and she trusted in them, but she was also not so arrogant as to refuse to allow a male to not only help her but to follow his lead on things. I really liked her. While I wasn't swooning for Ronan, I also really liked him. He has been living out his mortal punishment with a huge chip on his shoulder and grudge to match. But he's also a badass and he knows it.
These two meet at a bar where Ronan is guarding his client's daughter from her abusive boyfriend and if said boyfriend shows up, he's to bring him to the father. But things catch a snag when he finds a pair of humans that reek of demon and have a girl stuffed in their trunk. Together Ronan and Arkady take the two out and save the girl, but by killing the guys they have lost their biggest source of information. But they are both determined to take down this human trafficking ring and know they have a better chance if they work together. These two have been drawn to the other from the start, so their flirting and their fighting was always fun. And there is plenty of both. As they chase one lead after another, these two obviously get closer and closer until they would die to save the other. They don't label it anything mushy like love, hell Ronan doesn't even understand his attraction to Arkady, but they are definitely going to enjoy each other as much as they can.
I definitely enjoyed this enough that I really do want to read Alice's series. So I'll be watching for them to go on sale so I can finally check them out.
This was a really solid read, I enjoyed both Ronan and Arkady as protagonists and enjoyed references to other characters but that they were front and centre. I enjoyed in particular the way Ronan gained experience around valuing his mortality and the unique gift it brings to the immortal perspective. I liked the way in which scars and valour and the idea of 'fuck them' was presented - that resonated nicely and was really satisfying. I really enjoyed their connection and romance and the way they negotiated that bit by bit - careful and insightful, but with mistakes and I liked that the communication was real between them around the pain they caused each other and misunderstandings. I enjoyed the base storyline overall but that element was probably the thinnest for me - decent enough but not compelling in and of itself without the characters caring the heavier load.
I received this book for free in return for an honest review.
I devoured this book within a few days. i love when a book hits the ground running and this one did just that. It was non stop which made it hard to put down. This was the first time I had read anything by this author or in this series but I look forward to reading more. The character development and back story were good and the spice was there too. All and all this was a great read.
I just reviewed Mortal Heart by Lisa Edmonds, This ARC was given to me, in exchange for my honest opinion.
Fun, action-packed with a twist of sexual tension that will keep you reading the entire book.
Trigger warnings, I would not recommend it if you're sensitive to blood, mention of murder and torture, kidnapping, sexual language, sex scenes, or violence. (disclaimer, they are not portrayed in an intense way but just so you know).
We have a badass female main character Arkady Woodall, a private investigator with a past so cruel she made sure her life will be to make bad people burn in hell. And Ronan a fallen angel sentenced to life on earth for violating angelic law.
This urban fantasy was intense from start to finish, the author has a way to give us an amazing world-building with a slow introduction of characters, their personalities and their life story, which I like sometimes when everything it's given away in the beginning I tend to forget character info, and this way it's like you get a constant update and its not overwhelming. the sexual tension was there from the start and it didn't fail to deliver.
The narrative itself with all the tw I mentioned that in my opinion weren't talked about deeply but made the story very engaging and realistic, credible if it makes sense. One pet peeve about some stories is how they sometimes give me a cringe feeling, and this book NEVER gave me that feeling which is a huge yes for me.
Fallen angel bounty hunter, supernatural PI's, evil vampires and even worse demons - all entertained in human trafficking, murder, oh, and some serious kink. An undercurrent of attraction and heat ties everything together nicely. Stand alone, but part of a shared context.
Lisa Edmonds' Mortal Heart is an adventure between a tough-as-nails Arkady and her love interest/fellow "soldier", a fallen angel named Ronan. It's fun to see what ass-kickings these two deliver together, and to see them trading barbs but ultimately recognizing that they've found a perfect match within one another. Full disclosure, I have not read the rest of the Alice Worth series, however I think if I had I would've enjoyed this book more. There seem to be quite a few easter eggs in here for those who've read the series. (I may have to go pick it up and revisit this one again later!)
What I liked: It was great to see a very strong FMC (and on a side note, the name Arkady is cool)
What didn't quite work for me: Everything takes place over the span of roughly a few days, which I don't typically enjoy (if that's up your alley, you'd like this then!) - the whole thing felt a little bit like kind of a one-off adventure
Would I recommend: Yes if you've read the rest of the Alice Worth series
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow. Just wow. This book pulled me and and I just consumed this book so quickly. I could not get enough.
The plot is well done and all the characters - both main and side characters - are level best (both in backstory but also in snark which is my favorite). The book is well-balanced in tone, plot, and character development that I don't have any notes.
This is a spinoff of another series (Alice Worth), which I hadn't read, but this book worked just fine as a standalone (although I know there were a lot of spoilers revealed so if that bothers you definitely read Alice Worth series first). I am happy that their are 8 other books that I can dive into now, because I cannot wait to read more in this series.
Love Lisa Edmonds and Alice Worth. It was a fun read and I enjoyed learning more about Ronan and Arkady. They have been favorites for a while. I really hope Edmonds brings us more stories from Alice Worth's World because I love all her characters and want to learn more about them.
