I’m so in love with this book! I am a sucker for a good grumpy x sunshine book and making the a single mother added so much to the story! I feel like the issues Perry and Lila went through with Jack were so realistic to the real world! I love every second I got to read of them together and they were SO CUTE! I love this authors writing style so much and omg the soft spots Perry had for Lila were perfecttt! I also love how Perry helped Lila feel better about her body but also how she was able to learn to love herself on her own! This book was so hard to put down and I’m looking forward to anything this author puts out!
This was such a fun book! I mean I was really excited for it but it exceeded my expectations. I love the grumpy/sunshine trope and this book was perfect. How to Kiss Your Grumpy Boss is the second book in Jenny Proctor's How to Kiss a Hawthorne Brothers Series. This series has been wonderful and I am super excited for the next book. Oh, Perry. I felt so bad for Perry, he was just trying so hard to control things. But life was throwing him upside down. Perry was the grumpy brother but he had a heart of gold and he loved his family. He fell hard and fast for Lila and she really managed to shock up his world. Perry had to learn that he didn't have to be perfect to make things work with Lila. He had to learn to enjoy life and just hope for the best. Lila was also an amazing character. She was so funny to read about. She was a single mom just doing her best to care for her kid. She never expected to fall for her virtual grumpy boss, but life had other plans. She met Perry and she was smitten but she was also careful because of her son, Jack. I really liked Lila and how she was reasonable but she also saw the best in life. She cared for Perry but she also had to put her son first, which I admire. Lila had to learn to trust Perry and maybe learn that her wishes could come true. Lila and Perry were so cute together! I really enjoyed their interactions and their fun banter. Jack was just so sweet and I loved reading about his interactions with Perry. He was a fun little kid. The Hawthorne family really just adds to the story and I enjoyed reading the sibling banter and advice. I love books with siblings that love each other and honestly want the best for each other. The story was sweet and I was rooting for Perry and Lila as they tried to work out their relationship. How to Kiss Your Grumpy Boss was even better than the first book! I would definitely recommend it! I would recommend it to those at least 13 years and up because it is a closed door romance. I am also beyond excited for How to Kiss Your Enemy! How to Kiss Your Grumpy Boss is a closed door contemporary romance.
I am so sad to say I did not love this book. I read another of Jenny's books and loved it, so I was expecting to love this one but that wasn't the case. By the time I got halfway through I realized I was just reading it to read it, and that I wasn't really excited about finding out what happened in the end.
I love a grumpy/sunshine book as much as the next person but I feel like Perry wasn't really that grumpy. The drama towards the end was okay but not enough to make me love the story. I also feel like the story was bit rushed to be honest.

My Thoughts: This is book no. 2 in the Hawthorne Brothers series. However, it can be read as a standalone. I am absolutely in LOVE with Lyla and Perry. This story is narrated by both Lyla and Perry, which I love the dual narration, as you get both sides, more of a complete story. This story follows a grumpy vs. sunshine trope, one that I am getting more into. This is a closed door romance with no spicy scenes, which I love both. Even being closed door, they had mad chemistry and the banter was truly amazing, especially with all of the apple puns, just brilliant. I hope each brother gets a book as I would love to explore all of the beautiful Hawthorne brothers! There are a couple of series that use the Stonebrook Farms, oh how I wish this was a real place I could visit as it sounds absolutely Devine! The author does such an amazing job with descriptions, you really feel like you are there! The characters were developed so well with depth, witty banter, chemistry, and creatively built up. The author’s writing style was complex, funny, crisp, intriguing, and just brilliant. Content warnings of domestic abuse and/or toxic relationships. This book released at the beginning of the month and I highly recommend, it is available on KU. This was such an endearing, sweet, swoony read!
Grumpy-Sunshine books are my favorite, and this one did not disappoint! I loved everything about it! It was such a fun story that had me hooked from the first page, with wonderful characters and a super swoony romance. Perry and Lila were so perfect for each other. Loved it!

I loved this story! Ive been lucky and this is my second ARC I've received from Jenny Proctor and I was SO excited to read this one. It was as fun and sweet as the first novel but I LOVE a workplace romance so I may be leaning towards this one as my favorite. I loved these characters and their love story.
Romance: 3/5
Chemistry: 4/5
1st Kiss: +-59% in
Spice: 0/5 (it's a clean one y'all)
Humour: 4/5
Drama: 1/5
Cry factor: 0/5
Suspense: 0/5
Positive thoughts:
- I loved that both had a past that they were struggling to get past and are so not confident with themselves to let them fall once again on love. And when they finally do, it's beautiful.
- I love Perry's awkwardness, he's a shy grump and has no clue what his doing and that made for some laughing moments.
- I love that it felt very real with Perry with regards to Lila's son. Getting a new son (or a stairson) is no joke and he panicked, not trusting his ability. You can never be perfect, but you can do your best.
Negative:
- I wish we had seen a bit more of Perry and Jack together, he seemed to be such a sweet boy, I would have loved to have had more.
- And I wish we had more scenes with Buttercup messing up Perry's day.
Overall:
- It was a sweet, clean romance loaded with chemistry and funny moments.
- It will definitely get you laughing and in a good mood.
- It's a fast paced, easy to read and you won't want to put it down.
Tropes:
- Single mom
- Farm life
- Boss and employee
- Broken hearts
- Grumpy vs sunshine
- Apple puns
- One bed
4/5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this so much more than I thought I would, I actually loved it so much that I read it one sitting. As the cover reads, this is truly such a sweet, innocent, romance & it was such an easy read. This story follows single mom, Lila, as she navigates her romance to her boss, Perry. I loved the banter & chemistry between Perry & Lila, and I really loved the setting! I'm not usually drawn to country-bumpkin-farm vibe books 💀 but this one was SWEET!!!! (& perfect for fall if you're still savoring the last few weeks!)
read this if you're into:
assistant x boss
fake dating
grumpy x sunshine/normal
found family
outdoorsy / country-ish scenery
dual pov
both falling at the same time

How to Kiss Your Grump Neighbor by Jenny Proctor is one read that I couldn’t put down! With some of my favorite tropes such as: single parent, boss/employee, boy falls first, and grumpy/sunshine, this book has become one of my comfort reads. I love how Jenny Proctor discusses another side of dating a single parent, one that you do not usually see in romance books of this kind. She discusses the uncertainty and difficulties that come with not only dating someone, but also dating their child.
I loved this book and can’t wait to see what else Jenny Proctor has in store!
Ok so I have got to read the first book now, because this book totally surprised me.
How to Kiss Your Grumpy Boss by Jenny Proctor is a fun, sweet, wonderful story.
I fell in love with both of these characters immediately.
Lila, is a single mom and a lovely character. I was swooning over her and Perry.
I loved Jenny Proctor writing. It's fresh, joyful with a ton of heart.
The story..... Oh my gosh! What's not to love! I devoured this one.
And I can't wait to buy book one.

Four Petal Press,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this eARC!
I want to thank NetGalley for giving me a copy and these are my own opinions.
Normally I would not give a closed door romance anything above a 3 star. But this was SO DANG CUTE. Perry is just just an adorable grump and Lila was adorable, we love a curvier girl representation. And their relay was sweet and adorable. And Perry’s family was such a great addition.
A sweet and compelling romace with characters well developed and a cliché assistant and boss kind of romance. Here We have a single mother, dealing with raising a kid after her husband death, and a Farmer guy who has fear of being vulnerable to love after a difficult divorce. It's beautiful, and doesn't have hot scenes and the narrative flows with easiness.
Romcoms make me so happy and I'm delighted that I found Jenny Proctor. I have loved everything I have read by her so far.
In this book, Lila is working as a virtual assistant to Perry. He didn't want a personal assistant to help him out on the orchard, but he soon doesn't know how he did things without Lila's help. "Virtual" should mean that they don't do in person, but something comes up and Perry asks Lila to help him out. It requires them to actually meet. When they do...WOW! The attraction is instantaneous, but Lila's young son is certainly a complication to them having a relationship.
This was a super cute romcom. I loved all the silly apple jokes and I loved Perry insecurities when it came to dealing with Lila's son. I also loved that Perry was just fine with Lila's very curvy body and did everything he could to reassure her of that, especially after her husband had done everything to produce a negative body image in her. Refreshing!
Thanks to Four Petal Press and NetGalley for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.
An incredibly adorable read!
I finished this read in a day, it kept me wanting to know more about the cute couple, Perry and Lila. Lila takes a job as a virtual assistant for Perry, now you would think they would never actually meet in person, well....they do!
The relationship that is formed between the pair was so adoring, the way that Perry ends up opening up to Lila and that she was able to bring out the best within him. It was like they were just made for each other!
Definitely gave this book a 4.5/5 for me ;)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
What a cute book!
Lila is a single mom working as a virtual assistant to Perry, a divorced, grumpy businessman. They shouldn’t have to ever meet, but they do unexpectedly.
I thought their relationship was charming. I loved that Lila challenged him and brought out the good in him. I also loved the relationship that Perry had with Jack (Lila’s son). I fell in love with the Hawthorne family.
This was such a feel good, heartwarming read! The banter was great, the story was sweet , and I couldn’t put it down!
I’m looking forward to reading more from Jenny Proctor!

Lila is a virtual assistant who is hired by Perry, much to his dismay. They work together virtually until one day Perry is stranded with a flat tire and no jack.
This was such a cute read filled with fantastic tropes. I loved seeing Lila and Perry together, I feel like they complement each other pretty well. The book does a great job of showing us how hard it is to deal with loss and dating as a single parent. It also showed us how hard it is to adjust as a step-parent. I think that these are important points that are neglected in romance novels but Jenny Proctor makes sure to bring some light on them.
I do wish however, there were a few more scenes between Jack and Perry.
Overall this was a cute fun read that got me out of my slump so extra 1/2 stars for that.
Rating: 4.5 stars
Perry's manages his family's orchard with his sister, but while she is out on maternity leave, his family convinces him to hire a virtual assistant. Enter: Lila, his local, but virtual assistant who is also a single mom to a 5 year old. Their job never requires them to meet face to face, but when Perry finds himself stranded on the side of the road, he and Lila finally meet. Both are drawn to each other, but must navigate his grumpy and perfecting personality, while taking things slow because of her child.
Thank you Four Petal Press and Net Galley for the ARC! Such a cute book. I loved Perry's family and their family dynamic and their humor towards each other had me laughing out loud at times. Lila was the absolute sunshine to Perry's grump. I just wanted to keep reading it and was sad when it was over! Would give a 4.5/5 - but rounded up
- Slowburn Romance
- Sunshine x Grumpy
- Work Place Romance
- Love after Divorce/ Love after Loss
the most down to earth, wholesome and all round adorable read!
I binged this straight in less than 24hours and I cannot fault a single thing 🥹
It had everything. the super hot single mom, the broody grumpy guy who needs to be saved by a quick witty woman, the heart wrenching cute kid
I genuinely enjoyed every moment of this
'Where do I need to APPLE-ly to get a Hawthrone for myself!?' (A poor attempt at making a pun. I Apple-ologize!)
Aaahhh💗💗 At this point, I would definitely prefer Jenny Proctor's books for sweet-EST rom-coms. I read three of her works and she never disappointed me.
'How To Kiss Your Grumpy Boss', starring Perry Hawthrone and Lila, is second book from the series 'How To Kiss A Hawthrone Brother'.
Lila is a single mother and a virtual assistant. Perry is a Hotty Hawthrone, whose love of the life is Buttercup(JK!🤭). Lila gets to work as a virtual assistant to Perry until they meet each other one day unexpectedly.
Expecting a happily ever after? No, the real problem for perry is becoming stairdad to Jack. He isn't really sure about himself taking care of both. He is afraid of failing himself and both, Lila and Jack. But do you know what they got? H-apple-ily ever after😉
The puns are the biggest plus to the writing😂 Ofcourse, Hotty Hawthrone too(Yeah, I am talking about Flint) I kept giggling foolishly throughout the book. I have to stop myself at times when my dad is around.
I loved this one more than 'How To Kiss Your Best Friend'. Now, I can't wait to read the third book🥺
If you want to read a light, sweet, happy and cute book, I will recommend you this book for sure.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the arc.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I loved this book! Thought I would start with that.
Perry Hawthorne is a kind hearted, sensitive, grump. Love has not always been kind leaving him jaded and afraid to start again. On the other hand he is a well respected CEO of the family run apple orchard. His family is large and loving. Then there is Lila. A spunky single mom who is hired to be Perry’s virtual assistant. She is spunky and challenges Perry in many ways.
It is easy to fall for these characters Jenny Proctor has created. They are likeable, interesting, and draw the reader in wanting to learn more about them. What has happened to them in the past that impacts their behaviour in the present? Will their relationships turn out the way we hope they do?
If you would like a light hearted and fun book, that might keep you up reading well into the night, then this one is for you.
