In Things We Hide from the Light we are returned to Knockemout to follow the story of Nash Morgan as he recovers from the events that occurred in book one. Recovering from the shooting and still trying to solve the mystery of who shot him, Nash is broody and grumpy and struggling to maintain his role as sheriff, Enter Lina, his brother’s best friend, and a woman who is the complete opposite of Nash in every way. While book is filled with banter, good boy/bad girl, close proximity, and of course small town romance, it still addresses some deep issues. Lucy uses TWHFTL to provide representation to mental health issues such as depression, panic attacks, and PTSD. As well as doing a wonderful job at demonstrating health ways to set boundaries in relationships, and acknowledging that everyone is responsible for working through their own baggage (aka you are not responsible for fixing anyone else). This is a great book for fans of Lucy Score, and for lovers of small town romances.

Thank you Bloom Books and NetGalley for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review!

I was delighted to revisit the town of Knockemout and its cast of lively characters and to watch Nash and Lina navigate their baggage to get to their happily ever after. Can't wait to read Sloane and Lucian's story next!

Thank you Netgalley for this Advanced Readers Copy of Things We Hide From the Light by Lucy Score. This is another very strong outing from Score and is a great addition to library collections with strong Colleen Hoover circulation.

While I loved the first one and am a huge fan of Ms. Score's books this one I just couldn't get into that much.

I enjoyed this book but didn’t love it like Things We Never Got Over. The spice wasn’t as great as I hoped it would be. It took me a very long time to finish this book, I would read some then get uninterested and then come back to it. But it definitely picked up towards the end and that helped me finish it, and I wanted to know all of Nash's story. I am glad I finished so I am prepared for the next book, though it took more than half of the book to pick up and hold my interest. One thing I liked and appreciated about this book was the mental health representation with depression, panic attacks, and PTSD. It was very raw and real, which I would love to have more books that bring awareness to these struggles.

This book includes:
Good boy/ bad girl
brothers ex
next door neighbor
Small town
3.5/5 stars
2/5 spice

Thank you Lucy Score, Bloom Books, and NetGalley for providing an arc for an honest review.

I really like every aspect of this book, except for the romance. Considering this was a romance book and the romance took center stage, it really ruined the book for me. I loved all of the characters just as much as I did in the first book. I loved seeing Knox and Naomi’s relationship in this book, and seeing them with Waylay… ugh love! I really liked Lina and Nash separately as characters, but as a couple I didn’t feel their relationship. I didn’t feel the chemistry and honestly they would have been better as friends. I also found that the spice was a bit cringe and their was one seen while they were sleeping that was so weird to me. Overall, this was not my favorite, I was disappointed after Things We Never Got Over. I’m still excited for Lucien’s book though!

Ugh… I have to be honest y’all… this was definitely not as good as the first book in this series. Things We Never Got Over had me reeling emotionally. This one was very flat in comparison. I had to force myself to finish this one just so I’d be up to speed for the next book - which fingers crossed will be more on par with the first one (and I am predicting that to be the case because Lucien is ). I mean, I didn’t totally hate it, but it was just kind of boring to be honest. It lacked the tension and passion. And for whatever reason, I just didn’t connect with Nash and Lina. This book felt like fluffy filler for the next one. I’m giving it three stars just because I’m partial to Score and Knockemout, but really if it had been anything else it probably would have ended up as a one star DNF. I wanted to love it way more than I ever actually did. It had some tender moments and the occasional hilarious dialogue, but the vast majority of it was not at all what I would have expected from this author's typical story quality.

Whole Things We Never Got Over will always take the top place in my heart, this book was an amazing follow up. I loved the new characters, as well as how characters from the previous book remained a big focus. It was extremely well done and I cannot wait for the 3rd book!!

I love Lucy Score's books, so this review may be a little biased.

I wasn't too excited about Nash and Lina's book. I'm (im)patiently waiting for Lucian and Sloane's story. However, I REALLY enjoyed this and wow, did Nash come out of nowhere on the dirty scale. This was a spicy and fun read, and I loved how Sloane grew throughout the story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I truly enjoyed reading the first book in the series, so I was a bit excited to read the second book in the series. And yet, I felt disappointed.

Things We Hide from the Light focuses on Nash, aka Knox's brother. We pick up where the first book left off, with Nash recovering from his injuries and returning to work. He may look like he is doing fine and well, but he truly is not. He is hiding his pain from everyone. He doesn’t want to talk about his issues or concerns with anyone, especially his new next-door neighbor, Lina. Lina can’t help herself when she catches Nash's eye. She knows there is something going on with him. And she is willing to help since she is only in town for a short amount of time. But she is hiding a big secret from everyone, especially from Nash.

Just from the premise above, you would think this book is a good rom-com. Sorry to disappoint you, but it wasn’t hitting the right notes for a rom-com. I had issues with Nash and Lina's relationship. They don’t fit with each other. I don’t believe in their relationship or chemistry. It just doesn’t fit. I couldn’t connect with them.

Alright this is my second Lucy Score book and I've got a complaint. Why are her books so long? I really feel like this book could've been 100 or more pages shorter and it wouldn't have taken anything away from the story..

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.

Lucy Score has a big following of devoted readers, and they will be very happy to discover her newest book, which is a followup to her last one, and tells the story of Knox's brother Nash, who is a police officer trying to cope with the aftermath of some traumatic events on the job. I look forward to recommending this title to readers who love Lucy Score, and to any reader who enjoys a great contemporary romance that mixes in some social issues.

Nash and Lina. Well. I didn't really think I would be all that enamored with the second book in this series, mostly just because Daisy and Knox stole my heart. HOWEVER, this book beats my absolute number one complaint against small town series: it is a completely different book than the first one.
A common failing of these small town dynamic books is that the plots start to share arcs, and/or the relationships develop in similar ways; but I didn't feel that with this book. Even with the reversed relationship dynamic, I didn't feel like Nash was similar to Daisy, or Lina to Knox.
Onto the plot. I'm a slut for damaged characters, ESPECIALLY when its done accurately. I thought the portrayal of Nash's mental health was very refreshing, and not seen often enough. You can have a strong male character who still feels the effects of his actions and experiences (it makes them sexier). I do really wish there was maybe some therapy for him, and that his problems didn't just mostly dissappear later in the book.
Although the suspense aspect wasn't as crazy as it could've been, I liked it. I wanted to see Lina in action more, but I also don't like when authors throw in action scenes just for the heck of it--so overall it felt pretty balanced.
Overall, very very pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this book in comparison to Things We Hide From the Light (a bimonthly re-read at least), but I would be lying if I didn't say I'm most excited for Sloane's book 😭🤣.

I absolutely love this series! Lucy Score writes such lovely and real romances and I loved reading about Lina and Nash.

Overall, I felt like maybe this book was a bit too long but I had fun on this romantic and suspenseful journey with these two stubborn but loveable characters.

Hot steamy romance, witty banter, suspense…what more could you want from a contemporary romance? Lucy Score did it again with this second installment of the Morgan Brothers. Nash Morgan is the good one with many demons brewing in his head and he cannot move past the shooting incident that injured his arm and his soul. He is determined to find the shooter and to protect Knockemount, the town he loves. But the Knockemount community from his brother, his best friend Lucien, and the quirky towns people believe that they need to protect Nash and help him be the man and sheriff he is supposed to be. Along comes mysterious and sexy Lina, who can take care of herself and is looking for the same man Nash has pledged to find. The steamy burn between Lina and Nash is intense and as they help each other their love grows. As they search for the criminal, other story lines open up to set up the reader for more to come and you learn of the true colors of other characters in town. I am very excited to read about Lucian and his backstory.

Thank You Netgalley for the advanced coy.

I loved Knox and Naomi and wasn't sure if their story could be outmatched, but this was a great runner up! Nash and Lina were so good and the fact that there wasn't a third act breakup? THANK YOU LUCY SCORE. The back and forth was absolutely frustrating, but that just made it even better when they finally got over themselves and figured their stuff out. Nash's struggle with PTSD was so real and made my heart hurt for him. The "I only feel good when I'm with you" trope made it even better. In true Lucy Score fashion, the spice was fantastic.

This is the second book in the Knockemout series, and I’m quickly becoming a super fan of Lucy Score! Her books may be long, but dang her writing makes you fly through the pages!

Nash and Lina 🥰 both dealing with their own difficult pasts provided excellent banter, tension, and steam along the way. This one was a bit slow to start, and Nash got on my nerves at times, but the second half was fabulous!

Even though I enjoyed the first in the series a bit more, this was still an excellent book that was more than just a romance. You get a little mystery to solve, and the best small town cast! I loved being with all the the characters from the first book again, and that Lina found such supportive friends!

This copy was kindly given to me by Netgalley and the publisher for review. All opinions are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed Nash and Lina's story. The PTSD and depression rep was really well done in my opinion. I find myself falling in love with Knouckemout and its's residents that Lucy Score has masterfully created- I wish it was real so I could go visit. At times I felt this book was a little long but I also enjoyed it enough that the pace wasn't a big issue for me.

I am chomping at the bit though, I want Sloane and Lucian's story in my hand ASAP>
