The cover doesn't match the vibes of the book. When I saw the book I felt the urge to ask for it but after I opened it I discovered a mess of colourful drawings that really have nothing to do with what you can expect. Plus, the story is simple and didn't catch my attention.
This is such a fun read! I read it with my niece and she enjoyed it as well. We are fans of Unicorn Day so we were excited to read another book by Ms. Murray.
Absolutely love the illustrations in this book, They are fun and colorful and add so much to the story. My 5 year old really enjoyed reading this book and we've also borrowed the audio book from the library to listen to in the car. I love that the book encourages dance and play. Would definitely recommend to fellow parents :)
A fun filled story about a mer-queen who throws a party, something you should attend! With rhyming words, and fantastic story, this book will makes your children giggles. Completed with colorful and pretty illustration, this is a must have book.
What a fun little book! I loved the rhyming patterns and the vivid illustrations. This would be a good fit in a K-2 classroom! While the mermaids are dazzling, the shark is the clear winner for me! :)
This was a really fun book to read. A queen is throwing a huge undersea party, and everyone seems to be invited. We see these creatures playing games and dancing along to the music the band is playing. Once this story comes to a close, it is clear this will be a party everyone is going to be talking about for years to come.
A beautiful colorful fun read with so many different ways to relate to the shark. This is a wonderful story for kids to learn about other kids who are shy, and not to miss the greatness those soon to be friends have. Just because a kid or shark is shy, doesn't mean you should not work on finding a way to become friends. My daughter made friends with a very shy kid in her first grade class and reading this she related so many times to her situation with her friend.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
It's a cute, fun, inclusive book for all the little merkids in your life. The illustrations are what really made me smile. So bright and happy. The narwhals with their little horn catching hoops were just precious . Wonderful book that will become part of your before bed routine.
This is a very colorful picture book with rhymes about a mermaid queen's party. Mermaid fans will love this one!
Definitely one to come to for the colours and the energy of the rhyme as opposed to the dramatic plot, this describes a right royal knees-up in the mermaid kingdom. Sorry, queen-dom. Everything is full of detail, as all the celebratory critters present letters on their sides, or come armed with congratulatory placards and banners, the lively scenes are almost day-glo in their colour, and the rhyme is really well sustained. I'd still maintain that as a story it might have gone further, but as a book for the very young sharing this it goes far enough, and with some brio and style.

As the day unfolds, children will delight in the playful activities that the sea creatures engage in. Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOK Kids for this ARC of MERMAID DAY by Diane Murray, illustrated by Luke Flowers.
Mermaid Day is a fun and colourful story for boys and girls 4 - 10 years old. The pacing of the story is just right. The illustrations complement the story perfectly and both are interesting and attractive.
Set in the ocean with a cast of fishy characters, it transports the reader into that fantastic world of Mermaids. There’s excitement throughout the story and it makes you feel like you’re attending the party too.
I really enjoyed this book and trust it would be read and reread over and over.
This is a lovely book. It has the perfect pacing for kids and the pictures and characters come to life right before your eyes. The colors are vivid. The drawings are beautiful and perfect for little eyes to explore and discover. I love the inclusivity of the shark and breaking perceptions. Overall this is just such a fun perfect book. Grab it for your mermaid or ocean lovers. You can't go wrong.
Thank you so much to Sourcebook Kids and Netgalley for letting me read an advance copy of this book.
Fans of Unicorn Day, rejoice, now Mermaid Day is here! Full of rhyming text and eye-popping color, this underwater romp is perfect for summer fun. The mer-queen is throwing a party and her to do list is complete: invite friends, prepare feast, hire a band, plan fun games, clean the castle. Done. The guests arrive, everyone chooses something from the treasure chest as party bling. Mermaids and mermen are singing and dancing with the sea creatures. Narhwals help with a game of ring toss. Seahorses give partiers a ride. But when a huge shark comes to the party, will the fun times end? Nope. He "boogie-woogies" with some "fin-tastic moves."
Illustrations capture all the fun as the guests show off their best dance moves, play party games and eat some delicious treats. A friendly octopus puts its tentacles to work pouring punch. Anglerfish acts as a spotlight for the band. Everyone contributes to a party that only ends when those mermaid tails need to rest from all the dancing.
A fun read for those kiddos who can't get enough of swimming and seem as if they are mer-people, or enjoy reading about magical creatures.
This was a delightful and enjoyable read that I shared with my little sister, who has a fondness for mermaids. She particularly loved the vibrant array of colors depicted in the book. If you have children who share a similar fascination with mermaids, I highly recommend giving this book a read.
I would also like to express my gratitude to NetGalley for providing my sister and me with the opportunity to discover this new addition to our reading collection. Your support in offering diverse and engaging books is truly appreciated.
Overall, this book offers a fun and engaging experience, perfect for young readers who have an affinity for mermaids. It captivated my sister's imagination and left her wanting more. We look forward to exploring additional titles in the future.
What a fun book! My daughter (age 7) LOVED every single page. The story was fun to read with really fun characters. Our favorite part was the scene with the narwhals. We thought the illustrations were absolutely gorgeous and enjoyed looking at all the details in the background like the unicorns dancing and the stuffed animals.
My girls and I really enjoyed this story. We really like the rhyming in the book. We also loved the illustrations. The colors and drawing were incredible. It is a perfect bedtime story to end a summer day.
This will be a hit with the mermaid crowd. Fun and very celebratory of all things under the sea! The rhyme scheme is catchy and there are fun little nods towards parents ("Finloose" being the album being played by the fish at the beginning of the book).
Mermaid Day is an adorable story about a mermaid party. The illustrations are colorful and fun, and I love the message of inclusion here, where everyone is welcome to the party! The rhyming verse is really catchy. Overall, it's a wonderful addition to any child's library who loves mermaids!
[Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!]
This was such a cute book! The illustrations were beautiful and the story was quick and fun. I read it to my daughter and she immediately wanted to read it again, so we will definitely be buying this book for her.
