“Mermaid Day” by Diana Murray is such a treat! But also, can we also praise Luke Flowers’s amazing illustrations? The illustrations will draw any young (or old) book enthusiast in and the rhythmic rhyming sentences will captivate any who are lucky enough to indulge in this book. When I was first given the opportunity to download this ARC copy, I was hesitant as the same story lesson unfolds in this book as the previous one which may be a bit repetitive if you are reading “Unicorn Day” and “Mermaid Day” back to back, but given the beautiful illustrations and cute characters (all the fishies and sea creatures!) both books will entertain. Another part I enjoy is how there is a time progression which is great for young readers. The story ends with the characters going to sleep, which makes this book a great bed time story. I read this book with my kindergartener and she gives it two thumbs up!
Thank you Sourcebooks Kids, Diana Murray, and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. My girls loved this! Fun and easy to read. Pictures were eye catching and fun to look at.
This book is about inclusiveness and finding friendship with everyone, no matter about your differences. The part about the shark melted my heart - I really hope those plankton cakes were made with phytoplankton! (plants) not zooplankton (animals)
The illustrations are vibrant and colourful, but I found that they were a bit busy and it was a little overwhelming.
As a soon to be elementary school teacher children books aren't new to me. “Mermaid Day” by Diana Murray drew my attention with how colourful the cover was.
I read through the story and really enjoyed all the illustrations. They were detailed, colourful, and overall beautiful. They pair well with the context of the story and had little easter eggs.
The writing was done well and rhymed. The shark page had me laughing with the rhymes.
I did rate this 3/5 because although I loved a bunch of things the story line let me down a bit since there was no climax. It was just the events of the party but there was no peak.
I received this ARC through NetGalley.
As a teacher I loved Unicorn Day. I also love rhyming books to use in my classroom. This was so well illustrated and a very cute story. I will be buying this for my classroom.
This book is so fun. Definitely will be a favorite amongst mermaid obsessed little girls. I can’t wait to read this with my daughter and buy the book when it comes out. The illustrations are also well done. Definitely recommend!
I really love this book🤍 This book is very fun as if I were having a party with a mermaid in the ocean. The storyline so interesting about the friendship of creatures in the ocean. The illustrations are very beautiful and cute, colorful with beautiful harmony. I would recommend this book to many people. I'm sure many people will love this delightful book as much as I do
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for accepting me to read and review this book.
My five year old DEVOURED this book! She is very much in to mermaids (including the mermaid party we just had) so I knew this book would be perfect. It's her new favorite book and we've read it nightly! I love the colors the author uses and thought this book was just adorable.
My daughter LOVES mermaids and was very excited to read this at bed time! The rhyming flows so easy and you can get through it without stumbling (maybe that's just me that has that problem haha) but we both loved it. And the illustrations are so colorful and pretty we had so much fun looking at them!
Thank you Netgalley, the author and the publisher for my ARC!
My kids and I have loved every single one of these books by these authors and artists. This one was absolutely no different and we can't wait until we have a physical copy here at the house! Please never stop putting songs in your books. One of our favorite things to do every night before bed is to read your books and sing the songs together!
Adorable and fun! If your child loves mermaids like mine does, this one is a must-read. It's too cute. Thanks for the opportunity to read!
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This was a fun rhyming story about a mermaid throwing a fun party. The rhymes didn't feel forced and there were only a couple spots where the flow was just a little teensy bit off to make the rhymes work. There wasn't a whole lot of meat to the story itself, although it did have a message of acceptance towards the end when the shark who just wanted to dance but was shy showed up. But it was pretty superficial as far as stories go.
But the illustrations are why I love this book. They were so bright, and colorful, and BUSY. There was so much going on in pretty much every single one of them, and I'm half blind from the neon glow of the various colors used. It was almost Lisa Frank vibes without seeming like a Lisa Frank knockoff, and I'm an 80s baby so I get seriously nostalgic for anything that reminds me of Lisa Frank.
It was an easy fun read, so I'd have no problem reading a few times if asked. Overall I give it 4.28 out of 5 stars.
The illustrations in this book are so bright, beautiful and eye-catching!!! I love how the words rhyme. My 4 year old daughter really enjoyed reading along with me! This is such a fun book to read with young children!!
This is a brightly colored, fun, vibrant, silly book that kids will love reading or listening to and looking at the pictures.
My kids and I absolutely love this series. The story is lyrical and fun letting me get into a steady rhythm while reading allowed. The art work is so bold and beautiful. I can’t wait to get a physical copy to join our collection.
A super fun read with artfully flowing rhythm and rhyme!
Appealing and adorable artwork!
Great for reading aloud and exploring the pictures in depth.
So much to enjoy!
My 5 year old would enjoy this book. The rhymes and illustrations were well done.

A fun, creative story about making the best of things. The illustrations are bright, colorful and attention grabbing.
Mermaid Day is an absolutely adorable, rhyming story about Mer-Queen preparing and having a party for all the sea. My 4 year old adored this story and has asked to read it multiple times..we'll have to get a hardcopy AND buy the others in the series Unicorn Day and Night. The illustrations are so vivid and gorgeous; there's SO much to look at. The cadence is an easy read and would be enjoyed by all children. Perfect to add to a birthday gift, to a classroom or just to your own bookshelf! Highly recommend!
Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Jabberwocky, and NetGalley for this ARC!
Thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Kids and NetGalley for the advanced readers copy!
The Mer-Queen is throwing a party for mermaid day! She invited all her guests and shares her treasure for dressing up. They party all day until it's time to sleep.
The illustrations are beautiful with such vivid colors! Very cute story with plenty to discover in the illustrations in each page. My 4 year old wanted to read it again as soon as we finished it.
