Death by Iced Coffee by Alex Erickson is book #11 in the Bookstore Cafe Mystery series. Bookstore Cafe owner Krissy Hancock tries really hard this time to not get involved in a murder investigation. Seems her curiosity can't be tamed though. I really like this character. She's smart, caring and a really good friend. The secondary characters are great too. I especially like Krissy's boyfriend police officer Paul Dalton. His quick response when Krissy really needs him is great. There are plenty of suspects in this murder mystery and figuring out the culprit makes for an intriguing, fun read.
I waited until I caught up with the other books to jump into this so I didn’t ruin anything! I feel like you could hop in at this book, though, and be just fine.
As a runner, I was super excited about the marathon part! But seriously - drink some water, electrolytes, and rest a bit!
I still don’t love Krissy as a character, but I do love the feel of this series and being in Pine Hills. I still love (love to be annoyed) with Rita. Also - why can’t Krissy figure out just talking to her boyfriend? Oooft.
This is a good cozy mystery series to read :)
Another great read! Krissy is back to solve the mystery of a man murdered at a charity run. Digging into the case reveals a connection to a good friend….but telling the friend may ruin the friendship. Meanwhile, Krissy’s own boyfriend needs to talk, but they can never find a good time. A clean fun read!
Krissy Hancock owner of Death by Coffee, a bookstore café that she runs with her friend and co-owner, Vicki Lawyer.
A runner is found dead during the Pine Hills marathon, apparently strangled.
At first, Krissy—who also participated in the marathon—suspects heatstroke but the red marks around his next tells a different story.
According to rumors, the victim Glen was involved in some shady deals. Was he killed over money?
When Krissy’s friend Rita’s boyfriend Johan is labeled as the suspect, Krissy decides to help her friend clear her boyfriend’s name. A good mystery.
Thank you to Alex Erickson, NetGalley, and Kensington Cozies for the arc of this book.
Another great book by Alex Erickson. I love the characters, lots of humor even amongst a mystery. The plot, as always, starts off strong and hooks me right away. This one had me guessing and rethinking things a few times.
Enjoyable - highly recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Death by Iced Coffee is a bookstore cozy mystery featuring FMC Krissy Hancock. After a misguided effort to run in a marathon on an unreasonably hot day, Krissy finds herself invested in yet another murder. This is the second book in this series that I received a NetGalley copy of to read and review, and I must say I was not disappointed. There were so many twists and turns that it was wonderfully challenging all to the end. Another great cozy mystery in this series and I can't wait to read many more.
This was a NetGalley read and review.
It's beyond hot in Pine Hills, Ohio and not really the type of weather to take part in a marathon even if you're an experienced runner. Unfortunately, participant, and local book and coffee shop owner, Krissy Hancock, is a complete novice inspired only by supporting a good cause.
As Krissy runs past familiar landmarks she is horrified to find a fellow competitor dead in front of her. Luckily her boyfriend, Paul Dalton, is on hand policing the event and soon an investigation is in full swing to discover who killed the fallen runner. It soon becomes clear the victim had secrets others seem anxious should remain hidden as well as more enemies than friends. With links to one of her closest friends coming to light, Krissy finds herself unable to resist looking into those involved alongside the local police department. As she digs deeper however, it becomes clear Krissy herself may now be a danger to a killer desperate enough to eliminate anyone they deem to be in their way.
This is the twelfth Bookstore Café Mystery book and, with the familiar characters and locations is a welcome return to this fun series with its original, slightly scatty, main protagonist who investigates in her own unique way. I enjoyed the main storyline about the killing and there were also plenty of offshoots from this which were just as engaging including an unresolved issue which I look forward to reading about in book 13!
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is an easy, fun read and recommended to any fan of cosy mysteries.
Death by Iced Coffee starts out with Krissy Hancock, who owns a combination coffee shop/bookstore in Pine Hills, at the starting line to run a marathon on a hot summer day. Along the way, she finds another participant who seems to have been overcome by the heat. But it turns out to be murder.
I enjoyed this book, however, I felt that the sunstroke symptoms that Krissy experienced would have put anyone else in the hospital. I felt that Krissy's physical issues were treated a little too lightly. The process of solving the murder took Krissy to some interesting places and it was great to see the character grow by being more thoughtful about approaching people and locations.
Overall, a good read and a welcomed addition to this series. Thanks to Net Galley and Kensington Books for providing me with an advance copy for review.
Thank you NetGalley for this Bookstore Cafe Mystery. Krissy is at it again and all anyone can do is stay out of her way and shake their heads. It’s a hot summer day and Krissy has a promise to keep. She’s going to run in a marathon but instead runs into a murder and something more.
Death By Iced Coffee is the eleventh book in this delightful series. Bookstore-cafe owner Krissy Hancock reluctantly agrees to participate in her hometown’s first-ever marathon, Its a brutally hot day, people are dropping out, and tempers are flaring. When one of the runners is found murdered during the race, Krissy can't help herself from doing some investigating on her own. The victim was a womanizer and had lots of enemies so there are plenty of suspects. This was another great addition to this series. I love the quirky characters. Thank you to Kensington books and to netgalley for providing me with this advance readers copy. I can't wait to read book number twelve!
A charming, relatable sleuth and quirky cast of characters sets Alex Erickson’s Bookstore Cafe Mystery series apart from the cozy pack–and this time, bookstore owner Krissy Hancock is stepping out from behind the counter and lacing up her sneakers to participate in her hometown’s first-ever marathon, only to find herself racing to solve a murder instead.
Bookstore-café owner Krissy Hancock is stepping out from behind the counter to take part in the first annual Pine Hills, Ohio, marathon. But with a killer close by, she may soon be running for her life . . .
This has such a cast of fun characters who are very entertaining. I wish my town had a bookstore cafe with Krissy leading. I did guess the murderer quickly however it did not take away the fun.

The first title I have read in this series, but I was able to learn the characters easily. Krissy Hancock owns a coffee shop and dates a police officer. She is also overly curious - but with the best intentions. She cannot help investigating when a man is killed during a marathon. A fun read!
First time reading this author. A light, cozy mystery with good characters. I enjoyed reading it. I plan to read others in this series.
This was another great cozy mystery about Krissy Hancock. She runs a coffee shop and can't seem to stay out of investigating murders in her town. I really need her relationship with Paul to develop more.
Krissy Hancock is participating in a marathon in the heat of summer when one of the contestants falls over and is found deceased. Krissy herself spends much of the book in a bit of a heat-infused stupor due to heat exhaustion. During the event she sees Rita's boyfriend run off during the marathon with another woman and begins investigating at first to find out what that man might have been up to since he told Rita he was out of town. This puts a bit of distance between Krissy and Rita since the investigation makes her keep secrets from Rita.
Definitely a great story with a lot of suspense and the whodunit is well-crafted and compelling. Love this series a lot and wish they could get Krissy's author dad a bit more involved in the action. Wouldn't that be fun?
I read this as an ARC for an honest review via NetGalley.
Thank you Kensington Books/Kensington Cozies for this ARC. Death by Iced Coffee by Alex Erickson was a fast paced little mystery solved by its main character Krissy, part owner of Death by Coffee. There were many characters, full of caring and concern for others, and need we say some villains! I’m all about series especially cozy mysteries and Alex Erickson did not fail to deliver. I will definitely read more in this series, but I must say I’m looking for a marriage proposal!! This book had all the feels, Thank You Alex 👍
This was a good book. Although this is the first book in the Bookstore Cafe series I have read, it was easy to read this book and not feel I missed something by not having read the earlier books. I had no idea who the killer was until it was revealed in the story. The main characters were realistic and easy to like. I recommend this book to anyone who likes cozy mysteries.
Fun quirky cast of characters make a most enjoyable addition to the series. A good solid mystery filled with red herrings to keep you guessing. Lots of suspects make the book very interesting. A fun read that I highly recommend! Thanks #netgalley and #Keningston for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
I really enjoyed this book and I have to stay the way Alex Erickson wrote the opening scene during the marathon practically had me panting and gasping for water!

Krissy is not a runner nor a fitness devotee, but she is running in a marathon in extreme heat as a favor for a friend. She is in the later stages of heat exhaustion when the race is called on account of murder. She's got some good friends who know that she needs more than water, but she's dumb enough to start sleuthing when it is detrimental to her health. It was hard for me to get into a main character who is TSTL. The other characters are well done as is the sleuthing. Not my favorite in the series.
I requested and received an EARC from Kensington Books via NetGalley.
