This is exactly the baking competition YA I've been waiting for! It's such a cute, mostly lighthearted read, and I loved how big a part the competition played - we got to see everything unfold, which was really fun to read. The book also has an adorable second-chance romance, which I'm a sucker for, so all in all it was a win for me, and definitely a comfort read worth revisiting.

I can always count on Adiba Jaigirdar to write a YA romance that's unapologetically lesbian and Bangladeshi, and The Dos and Donuts of Love was exactly that! I loved following Shireen enter the Junior Irish Baking competition while navigating competing with Chris, her ex, and a potential new friend, Niamh. I really loved that Shireen's parents were accepting of her queer and fat identity, even if others in the Bangladeshi community may not be. I also loved all of Shireen and Fatima's conversations and thought it was super sweet that Shireen had a Bangladeshi best friend who she could turn to for support and who would understand her struggles as a Bangladeshi girl living in Ireland, something I think is so important for young brown girls to have. The actual baking competition was fun to follow along as well--the dishes that Shireen baked sounded so yummy! I think all fans of GBBO and Adiba's previous novels will definitely enjoy The Dos and Donuts of Love when it releases this summer!

This was a fun book! Adiba Jaigirdar does an excellent job of writing a compelling story that completely draws in the reader. All the complications and life issues the main character had were relatable and realistic. I especially loved all the clever titles for each chapter! I would recommend this book to a friend!

This book is so incredible! I adore having a plus size MC, the baking and the sweetness of the love interests were just unmatched in most contemporary books right now. Loved it!

This was such a light & fast-paced read. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes cooking shows.

From a characters perspective, I didn’t love the protagonist, but she grew on me. A majority of the time I actually preferred reading and agreed with chris (her ex) and fatima (her best friend)’s perspectives of the conflicts.

I think this would’ve been a really fun book to read from dual pov; I especially would’ve loved to have chris’s pov.

Overall this was a cute sapphic young adult baking novel that I can definitely see myself recommending to friends.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I am not a big fan of donuts, but this book made me hungry for one! I couldn’t put this book down! I really enjoyed this YA book, and I loved the storyline. The characters really developed through out the story, but of course with a few character exceptions (looking at you Sean). The book sort of rushed into the baking competition, but otherwise had a good pacing throughout. The ending wasn’t too predictable, and the overall message of the book was sweet.

Would recommend this title to teens.

This was the SWEETEST sapphic baking competition show YA book. The chapter titles were food puns and the desserts made throughout the competition were absolutely mouthwatering. Let’s just say this book made me really crave some donuts.

26 junior bakers from all over Ireland. 10 thousand euros. Only 1 winner.

While Shireen enters into the first ever Junior Irish Baking Show, she is set to compete not only with her ex girlfriend, Chris, but also a new crush, Niamh. While the story does have some romantic aspects, it really focuses on the baking and character development. We really see Shireen grow as she handles her own anxiety and panic attacks all while battling fatphobic and racist trolls on social media.

Things I loved:

* Great British Bake-off vibes
* A cup of puns, a dash of drama, and a pinch of sabotage
* Learning more about the culture and customs of Bangladesh
* …DONUTS!!

Content warnings: mention of racism and fatphobia, depictions of anxiety, and online harassment.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a really cute and fun story. I liked Shireen and all the baking and food.
I liked that we see Shireen struggle as her ex is on the show too and she is making new friends.
The baking show and the delicious food will definitely be a big hit with teens. And I think many can relate to Shireen with her anxiety and her feelings.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.

Thank you, Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, for allowing me to read The Dos and Donuts of Love.

I love baking shows in books and the cover AND title immediately grabbed my attention. I loved that the story's focus was more on the baking than on romance. It's refreshing to have YA stories not only focused on the romance part. The execution of the story could have been a bit better, though. Actual rating 3.5 stars.

Summer is off to a rough start for Shireen Malik: her best friend Fatima is away in Bangladesh, visiting family, and Shireen has no energy for anything but donuts and binge-watching the Great British Bake Off after breaking up with her girlfriend. But when Shireen receives an email saying that her application for the first ever Junior Irish Baking Show has earned her a spot in the competition, she comes back to life, energized by the possibility of taking her passion for baking to new levels!

Shireen's anxiety has her feeling a little out of place when she arrives for the initial meeting, but she soon makes a possible new friend with red-headed Niamh. The anxiety comes roaring back, though, when Shireen is paired for the first challenge with none other than Chris Huang -- her ex-girlfriend.

I do enjoy a good baking competition story, and this one has all the delicious ingredients: a cup of heartbreak, a handful of competitors and potential enemies, a dash or two of romance, more than a sprinkling of emotional challenges, and loads of mouthwatering descriptions of baked goods. Shireen is confident in her baking abilities but has her composure rattled by conflict with Chris and her friend Fatima, racist and fatphobic trolls on social media, and her own anxiety and panic attacks. Being a teen, some of her responses to these struggles are relatably self-centered, though she does grow and make amends before the end.

While puns might not be to everyone's taste, I loved Jaigirdar's playful chapter titles as well as the name of Shireen's parents' donut shop (You Drive Me Glazy). I also really appreciated the mentor figure Shireen found along the way, giving the reader a glimpse of how Shireen might grow up and flourish with her dreams.

Overall a sweet confection of a read -- delightful! 4 stars

Read this if you love: baking competitions, sweet puns, second chances, friends to lovers, understanding the different ways immigrant families struggle between generations, overcoming anxiety, DONUTS

Shireen Malik is still reeling from the breakup with her ex-girlfriend, Chris, when she receives news that she’s been accepted as a contestant on a new televised baking competition show. This is Shireen’s dream come true! Because winning will not only mean prize money, but it will also bring some much-needed attention to You Drive Me Glazy, her parents’ beloved donut shop.

Things get complicated, though, because Chris is also a contestant on the show. Then there’s the very outgoing Niamh, a fellow contestant who is becoming fast friends with Shireen. Things are heating up between them, and not just in the kitchen.

As the competition intensifies , Shireen will have to ignore all these factors and more— including potential sabotage—if she wants a sweet victory!

I wanted to like this and while the premise was great, I found the overall execution for the story to lack a bit of structure and character depth.

One girl’s dreams come true when she is accepted as a contestant on a baking show... except now her ex is competing too and there is going to be so much drama. Shireen Malik is still reeling from the breakup with her ex-girlfriend Chris but when she receives her acceptance as a contestant on a new televised baking show, she knows she’s going to have to pull it together. Shireen wants more than nothing to open her own dessert shop and with the prize money she could help her parent’s own beloved donut shop and maybe start her own one. But things get complicated when her ex, Chris is also a contestant on the show... and just as things are heating up with another contestant Niamh... something strange is going on. As the competition intensifies, so do feelings and possible sabotage. Will Shireen win? This was a pretty cute baking show story with hints of romance. I think its great for fans of The Great British Bakeoff or any reality tv baking show.
