I was lucky enough to get an eARC and an eALC for never ever getting back together. I like a lot of other people were drawn to the hype of this book, which made me a little nervous picking it up. But I have to say it was a lot of fun and I can’t find any other audiobook that can compete next to it.
We’re following Skye and Maya, two girls who had dated Jordy, the brother of the new Princess Sophie, and overall a terrible person. They’re both approached to do a reality show with Jordy and the rest of his exes. To add to the drama, Maya was cheated while dating Jordy with Skye, who had no idea Jordy hadn’t broken up with Maya. Maya goes on it hoping to ruin Jordy the way he ruined her life while Skye does it for fun and maybe another chance at love, but quickly it becomes hell for both girls, as Jordy plays up the lies he told everyone.
I’m quickly realizing that I love reality tv shows? This is the third one I’ve read recently that I completely loved. I loved the drama. I loved the fact they quickly turned against Jordy when they realize that they’ve been lied to and played up so they would cause drama on the show. I went along of the ride and ended up loving the whole story and the main characters far too much. We’ve all known a Jordy, who thinks he’s better than everyone else, who will do anything to come out as the one wronged and not the other way around. It also gave us a great commentary on shows like that in general and how messed up it can be and how they’ll do anything for the ratings, including getting 18 year olds drunk, of cutting things to make the center of the show be seen in a better light even if they don’t have a single good bone in their body.
I really loved this book and I wish I could find another just like it.

What is with this trope of pinning women against one another? Especially young women, who really need to be built up by other’s instead of tearing them down because of a man - and ESPECIALLY without the full story? I will say it clearly comes together in the end but I still didn’t love the way the women were portrayed in this book.

This is also the reason why I don’t really love YA, it’s so wildly dramatic and over the top. I understand that when you’re a young adult you do feel these things deeply and feel like it’s the end of the world, but personally for me, it’s too much and I can’t keep my eyes from rolling into the back of my head.

I flew through this audio at 3x, so clearly I wasn’t fully listening or paying attention and it felt like I still grasped the whole story. Sure, the end was cute and sweet but this book really missed the mark for me. Maybe this is my sign I need to start reading the synopsis of books before I read them.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were loveable and you HATE the male main character. The LGBTQ+ representation was surprising and I really love how it was written. The plot of the story was done well.

I received this audiobook from the publisher for an honest review from Netgalley.

It was okay, I wasn't really invested in the revenge plot (it was slow, lacked intrigue and tension), I felt a lot of the characters played like caricatures, even the MCs lacked depth. Very cool concept, average execution. Also the third act problem between the love interests was intensely annoying--made me roll my eyes and dislike Skye instead of making me pine for them to get back together.

The audiobook narrator was fantastic though, she did her best to try and differentiate the characters with hertone. Not her fault the characters were written in a way to make them almost interchangeable. Sometimes I didn't know who was narrating, Skye or Maya, and ended up thinking, does it even matter? Which didn't bode well.

My verdict? Ya Basic.

PS; I know NEGAT is being marketed as YA to reach a bigger audience, but it shouldn't be. It is more new adult than anything, and maybe trying to stay within the YA realm did a disservice to this book.

What a fun story! Broken up with and left miserable, our heroine is invited to go on a reality tv show with THAT ex and all his other exes. When she arrives she has one goal: annihilate him.

Will there be alliances reached? Will her plot be discovered? Where will the sparks fly and will victory be hers?

Loved it-great work Ms Gonzales!

I reallly enjoyed this one. It gave me The Bachelor vibes but the fun twist was that every girl competing on the show was a previous ex of the bachelor. It was honestly so funny and The Bachelor was probably the least likeable human on the planet 🤷🏻‍♀️ I loved the ending of this one and although you kind of can see it coming, I was still rooting for them and loved to see it play out!

This was my last book of 2022. And i'm so freaking glad it was. I'm OBSESSED. It was exactly what my little bi heart needed. I freaking love everything about this book. I want a book two where we get to experience the next chapters of their lives. Its a 'clean' romance. but its so so good. I'm team Sophie Gonzales forever. I'm going to go buy all her books if this is what I can expect.

Thank you Macmillan Audio for this audiobook ARC!

I've just been getting into audiobooks and I really enjoyed the narrator of Never Ever Getting Back Together. It was interesting to listen to and easy to tell the characters apart.

I also enjoyed the story overall, I am not much of a reality tv person but I actually really enjoyed that aspect of this book. I also loved that it was LGBTQ+. Of course I was drawn to the audiobook by its title, it is very memorable. The cover is also very cute.

The only thing that was very minor for me was Skye and Maya's age. In my head I kept picturing them as girls in their mid 20's even though they were 18. It seemed to me like they were a little young to be going on a dating reality tv show, but honestly after the beginning of the book I didn't really think about it much. So if that is something that you think will bother you, I encourage you to keep reading because it ends up not being an issue.

This was my first Sophie Gonzales book and I'm excited to check out more.

I adored the premise of Never Ever Getting Back Together. I've never been a big fan of shows like The Bachelor but when I saw this was about two of the contestants falling in love I knew I had to read it. Happy to report that Sophie Gonzales did not disappoint.

Maya and Skye find themselves on a second chance dating show, despite the fact that neither of them really wants their ex back. Which is valid as Jordy is no special gem. In fact all of these girls are better off without him. They're pitted against each other immediately as Jordy cheated on Maya with Skye, and we know how the shows love to up the drama! This puts Maya and Skye in the same room, much to their dismay.

Maya wants vengeance and sometimes this was frustrating as she could see nothing else. She has harbored anger against Jordy for years, and Gonzales did a great job of making that come through,

I loved as they started to work things out and realize that they have feelings for each other, which sets a lot of other things in motion, and I was here for all of it.

My only issue is this is classified as YA, and the main characters are 18 or just over 18, but it read older, I wish they had just been in their early 20's instead, with a little life experience.

The Taylor Swift song kept playing through my head while I read this book. It was distracting to me but probably just a me issue. I liked the idea of the story more than the actual story. It was a little too unrealistic and ridiculous for me. Characters needed to grow up instead of being on a tv show.

This was a bachloresque spin off with exes as the bachelorettes for reality tv. I am not a huge bachelor fan and I think those type of plots don’t work the best for me. I did enjoy the friendship eventually built between the contestants and how the main characters ended up not being the rude, narcissistic Jordy. I went into this one blind and wasn’t expecting the bisexual twist. The chemistry was strong.

Read this one if you enjoyed The Charmed Offensive or I Kissed Shara Wheeler.

3.5 ⭐️

The bachelor but with ex's and two contestants fall for each other instead. Loved the story and seeing growth between the characters

I'm completely torn while writing this review. I really, really wanted to love this novel because I was thoroughly impressed by its title, cover art, and premise, but it fell a little flat for me. Both Maya and Skye, though likable, are characters who I never really found myself able to feel fully invested in. The supporting cast of characters (including Jordy) also had a ton of potential, but I found myself wanting to know more about them and their relationships/interactions with one another.

I'm still giving Never Ever Getting Back Together a solid three stars because I absolutely loved the premise and the epilogue. The story not only has a happy ending, Ms. Gonzales found an incredibly clever way to wrap things up.

I liked this audiobook. It was an interesting story and easy enough to listen to. I think I would have preferred it as the written book and think I might read that one at some point, but that is more a personal preference than my critique on the book. I think this would be a great book for YA readers who would prefer audiobooks over written versions and think it has enough to capture teens always divided attention. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to listen to this audiobook.

I really enjoyed this title and the narrator did a great job. The story was easy to follow and interesting even if it read like a NA while instead it was YA. But it was still nice and the romance was adorable and I liked the ending.

I was in the mood for a fun read so I was looking forward to reading Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales. The premise is so fun! It’s about two girls who go on a reality dating show starring their ex-boyfriend. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Barrie Kreinik and Natalie Naudus and I loved that there were two narrators. They were both great. I felt the story didn’t really start getting good until halfway through. I liked the bisexual representation.

Skye receives a phone call from her ex-boyfriend, Jordy, inviting her to be on a reality TV show for another shot at rekindling their relationship. He warns that his crazy ex, Maya, who basically stalked Skye, is going to be there too. He says the right things and talks Skye into attending.

Maya's ex-boyfriend, Jordy, is a cheater. When they broke up, and his sister married a prince of a small country, her reputation was tarnished, and she was labeled as bitter and obsessed. A call from a producer inviting Maya to be on Second-Chance Romance has Maya rolling her eyes--as if she would give that cheating jerk the time of day! Then she comes up with an idea: attend the show and make him fall in love with her and expose him for the cheater he is.

Fate has a funny way of putting people in uncomfortable situations. Not only are there several of Jordy's exes, the room assignments paired up Skye and Maya. With revenge in mind, Maya is focused on exposing Jordy, but Skye isn't sure what she wants. As they proceed through the competition, Skye and Maya get closer and develop feelings for one another. It is indeed a second-chance romance situation, but how will it end?

Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook and the narrator, but I felt the ages seemed a bit young for a reality dating show, as some of the participants weren't over 21.

4.5 out of 5 stars.

I loved this! What a fun read with such a deliciously hateable antagonist! Funny, beautifully written, and super cute! The author hit it out the park with this one!

The idea for this book was really interesting to me and I think it could have been an amazing read, it probably will be for some. I'm not really a huge contemporary reader - so for me the story just has to be really great and this book fell a bit flat for me. I think the narrators for this book would have been better reading the opposite main character part, I kept thinking that every time they would switch over and it took away from the emersion a little bit. I'm sure this book would be a great read some someone, it just wasn't for me.

Thanks #netgalley for an advance copy of this book.

Calling all Bachelor, Love Is Blind, or any other “looking for love” reality TV shows, READ THIS BOOK!

Jordy (ex-boyfriend) asks his former flames to compete in a “second chance romance” style reality show. However, instead of falling in love with Jordy again, two contestants fall in love with each other.

What I loved:
✨Reality TV setting: Even though I’m not a reality TV show watcher, I thoroughly enjoy the setting in NEGBT. The competition feels fresh, the camaraderie feels genuine, and Jordy comes across as an ass most of the time, which made me laugh.
✨Sapphic Romance: I love this twist. Slow-burn enemies to lovers lead to hot chemistry during their forced proximity (one bedroom), albeit a closed-door romance.
✨Revenge Plot: Maya’s plot to seek revenge on Jordy for cheating on her two years ago is highly entertaining. The scheming and setups offer great banter, feelings of girl power, and hilarity, as things don’t always go as planned.

My only complaint is that the girls feel older than 18 years old. My solution? I aged them as I listened to the narrations, which worked because both narrators sounded older than 18 years old.
