The novel centers on an elite group of neighbors in an upper class neighborhood.
Each year they have an annual party that is exclusive and centered on family, family, and Drama!
But the party is interrupted by a murder and everyone is a suspect and no one is safe from scrutiny
A bit wordy but well written

Welcome to Alton Road, an exclusive cul de sac neighborhood of beautiful homes and beautiful families. How well do you really know your neighbors? Drugs, alcoholism, and illicit sex are among the dirty little secrets hidden in these homes. The tale opens in present day at the annual Memorial Day block party. The music is pounding, drinks are flowing and secrets are about to explode!
Complex, well developed, and really unlikeable characters drive the story. You might think to yourself, “oh, I’ve heard this story before,” but hold on to your hat! Twist and turns and an ending unexpected and so satisfying.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fantastic mystery about a neighborhood block party that happens on Memorial day every year. It mostly switches between the POV of one of the neighbors (Alex) and her daughter (Lettie). The book starts in the present but then we go back a year to meet neighbors and see all the things that lead up to the events at the present day party. Every now and then we get to see posts on a neighborhood website with people guessing why there are police at the party. The comments from neighbors on the neighborhood post is hilarious even though it's clear that something serious has happened on another street..
This book kept me guessing until the end! I did figure out one part but there were several things I did not see coming. This was my first book by this author and it won't be the last.
Thank you to the publisher, the author, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was probably the best thriller I’ve read in awhile. I didn’t see the ending coming- which is what I want as a reader. The story skipped around to different characters a bit, which sometimes can annoy me, but I didn’t mind in this book. All the different characters and their side plots flowed well together, I really enjoyed this read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This one started off a bit weird with the timeline but things certainly worked themselves out.
I always love a good suburbia hell novel and this one was pretty good. Definitely some surprises along the the way.
This book would make a nice summer read! Interesting characters and relationships, and a juicy, twisty plot. It felt a little long, but was fun!
Thank you very much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
4.5 stars - thank you to NetGalley for the early read for my review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! So many twists and turns with every family in the neighborhood. Loved how there was a spiderweb of drama and everything was connected - it had me guessing throughout the entire book. Would definitely recommend!
This book will be a bestseller this summer! I was hooked from the very beginning and it kept me guessing until the very end!. I often don't enjoy stories will so many characters to keep track of. But, this writer made it easy to picture the characters and the setting. I could clearly see the neighborhood where this story takes place. The story is well thought out and will be enjoyed by many. I will definitely be recommending this one! Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy of this awesome book.
This started off so great! I honestly couldn’t put it down. And then something shifted and I couldn’t finish it. I think maybe there were too many storylines to keep up with and none of them were interesting enough to follow. Great premise but the execution just didn’t work for me.
I've read worse things, by which I mean the pacing was tolerable, but the deeply and consistently repetitive dialogue was a problem. This could easily have been 1/3 shorter if the characters didn't feel compelled to say everything twice. Also the main teenager was just awful.
Thank you to Net Galley for an advance copy of this book. This is a good neighborhood mystery. It is told from two points of view which works well. It is a little slow to start but it kept me interested up to the twisty ending. I can see this being a mini series.

I really enjoyed this book! The Block Party takes place in an upscale Massachusetts suburb, opening with the annual Memorial Day block party and going back in time to explain the events leading up to a shocking murder. I especially loved Lettie, a teenager who is a very sweet person despite her best efforts to appear cool and disaffected. The author did a great job of creating disparate, believable characters, each with secrets to hide. A real page-turner!
Thrilling, suspenseful and hard to put down, this is the type of story you want reading one sitting, although it’s hard to get through in one sitting because it has many moving parts and the character development is deep. Worth a read as the author doesn’t follow the general formula. Who knew block parties could be so entertaining?
A great story about the way people grow together and apart, and the explosive results when different compulsions and obsessions are mixed. It starts with a hint about what happened at this year's block party, but then you go back in time a year to meet the families on the block. For the most part, you have the typical dysfunctions that you could find on your own block. Rumors and suspicions about neighbors abound. But then the interactions turn more sinister as you learn more about each person ... and everyone has something to hide. When this year's block party unfolds, everyone's misdeeds are exposed with deadly consequences. As I read the story, I thought it was shocking. Afterwards, I realized that this could actually be based on real events as this world gets crazier every year. It's a great story with so many points of view as the events unfold.
This was the first book I have read from Jamie Day and I can tell you that it will not be my last. This story is based on the lives of those who live on Alton Rd from the point of view of Alex (mother) and Lettie (daughter). The book follows their POVs as they both show how secrets can ruin lives! This is a non-stop thriller that will keep you turning the pages to find out who is going to do what next, or just simply what is going to happen on the next page!
This book was very well written, the characters were perfectly developed and there was no down time in this book. You wanted to know what was going on with each family and what secrets they were holding and how it intertwined with the rest of the neighborhood.
Pick up a copy of The Block Party and you will not be disappointed! Thank you Net Galley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
A fast, engaging read. The characters are flawed yet relatable. I found myself rooting for them, even when they were made mistakes. I could feel the Persia kitties of the characters shine through in the descriptions and dialogue. Some of the twists were predictable but I still enjoyed getting to know the Alton Road community.

Welcome to the Alton Road Memorial Day celebration. It is in an affluent neighborhood with large houses and not-so-perfect families. Everyone has a secret. The block party is the event of the year, but there is a murder. Following the lives of neighbors, evidence is uncovered in this twisty tale.
The Block Party is an intriguing neighborhood drama with plenty of plot twists that will keep your attention. I found it entertaining and engrossing, full of lies and deceit. For thriller fans, this book is a must-read.
Thank you NetGalley, and St Martin's Press for sharing this incredible book with me. Your kindness is appreciated.

Great writing, but there was so much going on in this complicated web of a neighborhood that I found myself wanting to escape rather than dive in. But for readers looking for a domestic thriller that demands your attention and takes you out of your present world, this might be the perfect fit.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book.
If you like domestic and neighborhood suspense thrillers, this is the book for you. The author has hit the ground running with this first effort. This book has it all. The year is early but this is my favorite book so far. I can't wait for his next effoft.
I really struggled with this review because, while I loved the author's writing style, there was SO much unexpected content that it really downgraded the book (in my opinion). I would not have finished this book if it were not an ARC. Rape, illegal drug use, infidelity, a teenage girlfriend sleeping with her boyfriend's father, suicide, heavy/excessive drinking....these are the many reasons why I am giving this book such a low rating. The two stars are for the author's writing- it was definitely a page turner....BUT all of the things I listed above made it a book that just was not for me.
