This thriller takes readers into the lives of a handful of individuals who are connected to a wealthy couple, the Rytters, who are murdered in an upscale neighborhood. The story is told from different perspectives and the various threads are untangled with each chapter.
I loved the way this story spooled out - interwoven with the events leading up to the crime from their different POV are police interrogation tapes with all the suspects, so you get lots of different sources of information. It's a bit of a slow burn as we learn how interwoven these characters are and learn all the secrets they are keeping. And that ending - you won't see it coming
This book started off confusing with all the characters and storylines but once I took notes I was able to keep track. I really liked the story and how it all came together.
It starts off with the discovery of two bodies in a house.
Who did it?
* The mistress
* The house cleaner
* The widower
I love the format of the book. It goes between the police interviews, and the three suspects listed above.
It is a character driven novel, and a very enjoyable read.
I have added her previous novel A Nearly Family to my Tbr list.
Thank you to @celadonbooks and @netgalley for the Arc.
This was mystery thriller was published June 12, 2023.
A creepy and atmospheric puzzle of a story that draws you in but could stand to be a bit shorter.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review.

The Woman Inside by Mattias Edvardsson
Karla desperately needs to be away from her toxic mother and a new place to stay while trying to pave her own future. Struggling widower/single father, Bill needs money to support him and his daughter so he decides to rent out a room to make ends meet. Steven is leading a double life while his bed ridden wife is stuck in her room. Everyone is hiding something but who killed the rich family and why?!
Very interesting and fast read as the chapters were short (which I love) and it’s told from multiple points of view and very character driven. You find yourself questioning if you should like this person or not, feel sorry for them or hope they get what’s coming. The story was set in Sweden so it was interesting to learn new things about the country while wrapped up in a mystery.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! Book was released on June 13! #NetGalley #mtedvardsson #thewomaninside
I read Edvardsson's previous book, A Nearly Normal Family, not long ago, and found it fascinating. So I was happy to have the opportunity to read this, his newest US release, and I wasn't disappointed. Like the first book, this is set in Lund, Sweden. At the beginning of the audiobook, Edvardsson himself tells us it's a story inspired by a news story about "family tragedy", a term used in Sweden to describe family murder-suicides. What follows is a book told from three points of view - those of Bill, Karla and Jennica. I really enjoyed the way Edvardsson lets the story unfold, gradually showing us how the lives of these three people come to intersect, gradually telling their backgrounds and secrets dreams for the future - and revealing the lies they've told themselves and each other. I really enjoyed the way he wove all these elements together. I also very much enjoy his window into Swedish life and the law.
The audio version of this book is excellent, with three narrators, all of whom do a very good job of making us feel the characters' growing frustrations and desperation, without being over the top.

This is my first book by this author which I enjoyed reading. The suspense brings the story to another level for sure. This is a well written story that has twists and turns that not only had me sitting on the edge of my seat but coming back for more. I enjoyed how the author used details to make the story realistic and added to the stories entertainment value for sure. it is a story that kind of has alot going on but the author did a great job of keeping up with the characters and what they were doing. The characters pulled me into their world with ease and kept me there until the end. They are strong, supportive characters that made the story easy to read and hard to put down. I enjoyed watching the growth of the plot throughout the story. This is a fast paced story that is engaging and will keep you turning pages fast. I really enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this book.
A Riveting Page-Turner!
M. T. Edvardsson writes a chilling and thrilling tale with The Woman Inside. I haven't read anything by this author before, and what a hidden gem. I enjoyed it so much, that I have now followed the author and look for more books to read. I have just become a big fan of M. T. Edvardsson and read whatever this author writes. This author has a grand imagination, and talent for showing the story. The reader is introduced to Bill and his daughter, Sally, a man doing his best to provide for her. He rents a room to Karla, who works for a wealthy couple, the Rytters. She's a housekeeper by night, and law student by day. Bill will do whatever he can, but he isan't always able to provide the money his family needs, and he's still reeling from losing his wife. Then, comes more drama. Karla's clients are murdered. It seems that once the police start investigating, every person is investigated, and of course, everyone is hiding secrets. Secrets always have a way of getting out, especially when you least want them to. The chemistry between the characters is not forced, but seemed to tell a story of its own. This is one of those books that grabs you from the start and pulls you in. The reader just embarks on a superb journey. This is a magnificent plot that kept this reader turning the pages. The author's technique of raw, magnetic characters and great plotlines is a gift. A very unpredictable story, my favorite kind! Karla is a formattable character, and makes the story her own. A genuine character driven story! The Woman Inside is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. The Woman Inside is told in multiple points of view, through the eyes of Bill, Karla and Jennica. The story starts immediately with a couple found murdered in their home. This story is very character driven as we learn about these three characters, their life, their involvement with each other and also the couple.

This is the definition of a slow burn popcorn thriller. Being that this one was so character driven, this definitely felt like it dragged on at parts. I loved the segments where we read witness statements, newspaper clippings, even police reports, I'm a huge sucker for some epistolary writing styles. The characters, well they were okay to me, they honestly weren't all that likeable. Bill seemed like a big old weeny that was always used to being catered to. Jennica - that woman irked my soul with herself righteousness even though she was 30 and still didn't have a job. Karla was the only one (besides Sally) that I felt any kind of connection to. The fact she worked her butt of, would do anything for people she cared about and her determination to become a judge was really fun to watch throughout this read.

I will say that this one kept my attention, I liked the little pieces of information that were given in order to keep you reading. One of the twists I was easily able to call from the start of the book, but the execution was there. The final twist was one that I was satisfied with, though it wasn't anything overly shocking. This isn't one of those "thrilling" novels, so those of you who are looking to start to get into mystery/thrillers this would be a good one to start with.

I was able to listen to this one and read the physical copy. This one had a full cast (my favorite!). Josh Dylan, Nathalie Buscombe and Sofia Engstrand really made this book for me! They kept my interest, and they were a huge huge huge help with pronunciations of the names of the characters and of the places. They depicted these characters perfectly.

Overall, this was an average run of the mill popcorn thriller that is more on the character driven side. Recommending this one to all my friends that are fans of popcorn thrillers/ character driven novels. The Woman Inside was just released last week on 6/13. Huge thank you to @netgalley, @celadonbooks, @macmillinaudio and M. T. Edvardsson for the ALC and eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a suspenseful read that was a tad bit slow. There were multiple POVs which was great but sometimes a little confusing. The plot was easy enough to follow and enjoyed how events built upon one another. It picked up about the halfway mark and had a so-so ending.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this title.
I really enjoyed the way the mystery was presented, with multiple points of view mixed in with police interrogations. It was a really quick read and completely held my attention. 4.5 stars rounded down. Would have liked a better insight into the murdered couples relationship.
Thank you NetGalley and Celadon books for approving me to read this book. It was a great Scandi noir thriller. It was told by three points of view and numerous police interviews. It told how the three people Karla, Bill and Jennica's lives were interconnected. It 's all about good people doing bad things and bad people doing worse things. All three were deeply flawed and had secrets. I enjoyed the book very much - could have had a better ending but it was a good read, held my interest from start to finish. I would definitely recommend it.
I really enjoyed the author's last book, Nearly Normal Family, so was looking forward to reading this one.
I really had to re-read several pages as there seemed to be several characters and even though each character had a separate chapter, I still found it difficult to keep them straight.
The plot is about a wealthy couple found murdered and several characters in the book may certainly be suspects.
Having read to the end, I can only give this book 3 stars as none of the characters were real for me and the story seemed to really drag out.
I do thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Almost a 5-star read, but I wanted more of an explanation with the ending! I just want one chapter from Steven or Regina's POV to explain their relationship and what was really going on. I really enjoyed all the characters and how their stories came together. Jennica wasn't very likable and I didn't feel sorry for Bill at all, but I liked Karla and felt bad for her.
It was a quick read with short chapters and I liked the interrogation chapters throughout. Even though I wasn't satisfied with the ending, I recommend this one. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital copy!

I was granted an advance copy of The Woman Inside by M. T. Edvardsson. It reminded me of a Freida McFadden book with all the characters seemingly hiding some secret.
The story is told via alternating characters and police interviews and articles, which I liked, and it was unique in how it was laid out. The story opens with a wealthy couple who ends up murdered, then the story goes back and forth between timelines to unravel the mystery. However, about 60% into the story, I was ready for it to be over. It started out strong and felt like the story was moving along through the various character scenes. But it started to get a bit repetitive and monotonous at 60%. Plus, the ending didn't feel too original and was a bit of a letdown. I still enjoyed the story. I thought the author was methodical in how things were presented. Most of the characters were interesting and did have quite a few secrets. I was getting a bit annoyed with the Jennica character. At first, I liked her, but then she just became too wrapped up in her relationship, and that part of the story felt a little flat for me.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, but some parts were repetitive, and I didn't necessarily care for the ending.
I would give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Karla is an aspiring law student, working as a house cleaner to make ends meet. Needing a cheap place to live off campus, she rents a room from a widower and his young daughter, who are also struggling financially.
When Karla’s wealthy clients are found murdered, and her landlord, Bill, continues to grapple with money problems, the police pull her in for questioning. But what could come back to haunt her, and what has she been hiding this whole time?
A moody and mysterious whodunit with intelligent characters that all seem to have something dark hidden in their past.
This novel was pretty decent. I enjoyed the segue between the newspaper and police questioning as it gave the story a more authentic and exciting feel. Even though it’s your typical murder mystery plot, I did find myself more intrigued with where the story was leading me rather than guessing the surprise ending right off the bat.
Overall a fun read. Definitely, one for gloomy Fall evenings snuggled up under a blanket with all your doors and windows tightly shut.
The publisher provided ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
3.5/5.
Bill and Sally take in a tenant named Karla who works as a maid for a very wealthy family. When the wife of the wealthy family is found dead, Karla, the maid is the prime suspect. I've read a lot of mystery thrillers recently with a maid involved, and I always love their POV working for a super wealthy family with tons of secrets. This semi- gave me vibes of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. I appreciated the multiple POVs and the excerpts from police interrogation were an added bonus and really aided in my overall interest. Outside of the main murder, there are plenty of side secrets and side plots that aided in the big reveal which I appreciated. I just wish this book had been a bit shorter as it dragged on a bit in the beginning.
While I received this ARC as a ebook, I personally find the most enjoyment in the mystery/thriller genre from listening to the audiobook so I highly recommend going that route if you're going to pick this one up.
The book is released June 13, 2023.
Thank you Netgalley and Celadon Books for this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Pub date: 6/13/23
Genre: mystery, domestic suspense
Quick summary: Bill and his daughter Sally take in a boarder, Karla, who works as a cleaner for the wealthy Rytter family. But when the Rytters are found dead, Karla is the lead suspect, and Bill will have to unravel what really happened.
I love a multi-POV suspense, and this one delivered! I read it in one day using the combo of audiobook and text. There are plenty of mini-mysteries to unravel - is Mrs. Rytter being controlled by her wealthy husband? Why does the couple need a cleaner 2x per week? How did Bill become so desperate for money? These kept me interested, and the multiple perspectives helped the story feel multi-layered and complex. This is not a mile-a-minute thriller, but if you enjoy domestic suspense that will keep you guessing, give this one a try!

The Woman Inside was a delicious blend of thriller and police procedural, a combo I feel we can do with more of in books!
This kept me engaged, interested and hooked from start to finish
(3.5 / 5.0) The Woman Inside by M.T. Edvardsson is a quick read and the plot had me interested pretty quickly, even though the characters were on my nerves a bit. I wasn’t really in anyone’s corner or feeling like I could trust characters, but the twisty connections between them all had me eager to keep reading.
In this story we meet a group of people who are interconnected, but we get glimpses into only snippets of the connections at first, and it’s not immediately obvious how they all will tie together. I had some strong hunches on the twists and a few small pieces ended up being true, but I did not see the ending coming. That said… I was so underwhelmed and disappointed with the ending.
Thrillers are hard to rate because for some a twisty plot that holds attention is most important, and the ending doesn’t have to stick the landing. If that’s you, give this book a go. It’s weak on character attachment and ending, but it does hold attention.
Thank you to Celadon Books and NetGalley for the advanced, complimentary copy of this book. I had a chance to buddy read with a few book friends and it was fun to chat about our plot guesses.
