I am a fan of Ana Huang's work so when I saw this audiobook, I had to request it immediately. This is a story of two essentially star-crossed lovers who met, fell in love and were torn apart by circumstances beyond their control and stupid decisions. There were a few tropes in this book that was definitely not my favorite. I can't name them without spoiling the book but let's just say that I know them to be not very popular tropes. To be honest, it did subtract from the book for me but was essential to the plot line I suppose. The audiobook was well done but could have used more distinction between the main characters and side characters. When I got to the end of the book my jaw was on the floor... I could not believe that was how they were going to end this book?? I ran to my computer to make sure that this was a series as I needed to know more. Luckily I found out that this is already a series and immediately bought the next book. Overall captivating and something I obviously need to read more of right after I finish this review.
I was approved a copy of this read through Tantor Audio/Netgalley. I enjoyed Twisted Love, so I was excited to get approved for this audio. Unfortuantely, it wasn’t as good as what I thought it’d be. Farrah was made a doormat for Blake. She had “nothing” and he had “everything she could hope for.” The whole virgin plot was cringe to me. I did like the narrarators. Huge fan of Aiden Snow’s voice!
I thought the voice actors were perfectly casted! It really brought the story to life. Ana Huang always does such great work setting up palpable heat between her characters. Looking forward to what is next for Blake and Farrah.
The beginning of the novel was hilarious! It had me smiling and giggling to myself like a fool! Sadly, I didn't care for the ending. As an avid reader of romances and second chance romances, I found the conflict overused. I wanted and expected something more.
With that being said, it was still a fun and steamy read. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds in the next novel.
***I would like to thank NetGalley, Ana Huang (the author), and Tantor Audio for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.*
I liked thecwriting and describtions of the places and situations. I was reall shocked how this main man character reacted to his actions after beeing drunk and hiding that.. I will never understand that. I felt reall bad after reading and would really liked that was not happening.
Thank you Tantor Audio for great done narration but was unfortunately not enough to give more stars.
The synposis really caught my attention for the If Love series. This was a really quick read/listen. I thought that the narrators were good for this type of story. Cindy Kay and Aiden Snow (the narrators) kept my attention to continue listening to Blakes and Farrah's love story when studying abroad in Shanghai. There were parts within this that fell flat for me. I also personally didn't care for some of the different tropes within this series. Which sadly affected my rating. Though I did find some fault with this book, I cannot wait to continue the series.
My rating is 3.25 ⭐️
Thank you publishers from Tantor Audio and also NetGalley for this audiobook for an honest review.
Farah and Blake meet while studying abroad in Shanghai. He's a football star who walked away from the game to keep from being permanently injured, and his father isn't pleased. Farah is more innocent. They flirt and it develops into more and he becomes her first.
It is the first time Farah has been in a serious relationship. Blake has an ex-girlfriend that his family loves and wanted him to marry.
They fall in love, but a bad decision that turns larger separates them.
I liked them together but hated the reason they are apart.
Thanks to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for my ALC in exchange for an honest review.
