A very nice read for kids. The illustrations were great. I liked the way the text gives info of what a trip to Mars would involve and how it explains to kids what the life of an astronaut might be in space.
I do think that a teacher can use the text for a lesson in class and it might also trigger the curiosity for the kids to want to explore more on the subject.
Ideal for storytime, this bouncy adaptation of “The Farmer in the Dell” features a rocket going to Mars: “We launch with a roar, We launch with a roar, Hey-ho, to Mars we’ll go – We launch with a ROOOOOAR!” The lyrics are in a large font, while factual information is in a smaller font describing gravity, the time it takes to travel to Mars, and other scientific concepts. The user will need to turn the book over to read some parts of the text, in the section where the crew is in the ship experiencing weightlessness. The full color graphic style artwork depicts an ethnically diverse crew at work and adds charm. Originally published in 2018, this board book edition is best suited to older preschoolers and primary graders.
I thought that this was a really good book!
This was fantastic to read this book with my daughter who is space crazy and loves learning everything and anything about the planets!
She knew the order of the planets and the names of the main dwarf planets when she three thanks to YouTube so this was always going to be a hit with her as her favourite place to visit is the National Space Centre in Leicester as well.
The book was well laid out and it had some great images to bring the book to life.
I loved the song that ran through the book and that this was interspersed with facts too so there was two different types of fun with the book and some really good bits to learn too!
It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended
What a wonderful book! The story was great with fun facts throughout and the illustrations were absolutely adorable. A fun space book the whole family can enjoy
'Hey-Ho, to Mars We'll go!' is a wonderful book for young space explorers! The illustrations are really engaging and help to tell the story of these astronauts who set off from Earth to Mars. The text is split into simple rhyming verse, following the tune and rhythm of 'The Farmer in the Dell!' and short factual paragraphs. These sections are in two different sizes fonts so it is clear which is which and means that this book can span the ages. The varied layout of the text while our astronauts are at zero-gravity is a fun and engaging.
I do think it should have said how long this journey would approximately take! A far bit longer than completing the suggested 'to-do list' to stave off boredom. I ended up adding this myself when reading with my daughter so she didn't get the impression that it would be a quick trip.
4.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
There’s absolutely no reason to rate this picture book any less than a perfect five star!
Babies and grandies, do check out the illustrations! They are so good!
Daddies and mommies, here’s a perfect way to tell the kids what astronauts do and how their job is!
And you and me and the rest, picture books never come in this number of pages!
So I am recommending this perfect book here and now!
Thank you, Charlesbridge, for the advance reading copy.
