Betty White was such a fascinating woman and hearing stories about her life from a close personal friend’s perspective was so interesting.
Learning the stories of how her and Allan built a house he only got to see once before he passed as well as learning a personal perspective of how much Betty truly loved animals and would do anything for them was so heart warming.
There are many many more introspective stories about Betty’s life written by someone you can tell truly loved her and saw her as a mother figure
Read a print copy. The e-edition is just print put onto a reader which made it very difficult to physically read as there are no real distinguishing breaks between chapters that are supposed to distinguish the Pearls of Wisdom.
Overall an interesting memoire of Patty Sullivan and her tribute to Betty White.
Blind actor Tom Sullivan's work with Betty White opened the door to a life long bond with her. Known as Gram III her influence, especially regarding animal welfare and preservation of all creatures, is part of life choices and careers made by the Sullivan family. Covid-19 made Betty's final years cut-off from personal visits a hardship for all involved.
This should really be titled, The Sullivan Family included Betty White and her Pearls of Wisdom. The present title made me initially feel someone was using Betty White's celebrity to sell a book.
There are a few memories that are repeated in different chapters that should be edited out to keep the recollections moving forward. IMO: This book needs some serious editing.
Thank you so much netgalley for a copy of Betty White's Pearl's of Wisdom! It was a quick and heartwarming read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it made me love Betty even more. She truly was a special and amazing person.
From the title, I was expecting this to be more a book of quotations or "pearls" from Betty and how they impacted Patty Sullivan. Not having this be the case was disappointing, at first. I have read nearly every book Betty White wrote and did a blog series on her for her 100th birthday (even though she didn't quite make it, though Patty disagrees with that when you count leap years). But the Sullivans' interactions and memories of their time with her still provided a fresh window into her quiet life behind the scenes. Not necessarily earth-shattering revelations, but more confirmations of her kindness, fascination with life and learning new things, and overwhelming devotion to animals and their care that we already hold as a cherished part of our memories of Betty White.
Some sections felt a bit repetitious, but I also read it in a couple of days instead of more spread out, like most people will. Others may not feels this same way.
If you are a fan of Betty White, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this review copy.
If you have watched anything with Betty White over the years, you will appreciate this account by a long time friend of hers. The author journals little stories and inserts sayings by Betty White that influenced her life and are a true delight. What an icon. It's a light read, and good to way to remember her. Here is a book that I can return to to and appreciate.
Many thanks to #netgalley, #pattysullivan for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Such a beautiful insight to the amazing woman that is Betty white told by someone who was very close to her.
Loved hearing some of the stories I had never heard before and such a lovely way to remember such an iconic woman.
Betty White was my favorite Golden Girl. It was an honor to get a copy of this book from NetGalley for the purpose of this review. 5 stars for sure! I loved the wisdom from Betty that Sullivan shares in this collection. It is a magical book and would make a great gift for others!
I enjoyed this book for what it was, not what I expected it to be. I think it’s important to know going into it that it’s not a book solely on Betty White and her life lessons, but more focused on Patty Sullivan, her life and how her life intertwined with Betty White’s along with the impact of their friendship.
I do appreciate that it’s not a “tell all” on Betty White, which would be in poor taste. That beings said, I feel the combination of the title and cover may help sales, yet result in lower review ratings. I swayed back and forth deciding if I was disappointed or content, I would have loved it to be varying impacts/examples of wisdom broken down by chapter, but I also enjoy a casual memoir that reads like you’re listening to a friend tell their stories over coffee.
I’m as much a sucker for dogs as I am for Betty White, so I thoroughly enjoyed reading more about her love for and interactions with pets. It’s always pleasant and relaxing to hear stories of the imprint people (especially Betty White) leave on others.
I did catch some mild editing hiccups, but again, it reads so casually that they don’t heavily distract from the story.
As for pace, it was slow to moderate for me personally, but very light and easy to follow/enjoy.
A wonderful book an ode to Betty White sharing so much of her life.I really enjoyed reading about her love of dogs of special moments in her life,A really sweet read a book of fond memories.#netgalley #s&s
Who doesn't absolutely love Betty White?! This book was a love letter to her devotion to animals and the lifechanging work she did to improve their lives while she lived her long life. It covers her relationship to the family who wrote the book, some very sweet Betty-isms, and places she liked to travel. I absolutely adored the peek into Betty's life and the writing was beautiful. Thank you Netgalley and Forefront book for the free preview ecopy.
This was such a heartwarming book! Betty White was such a remarkable woman. I loved hearing about the things we already knew in a different version and hearing about her friendship with Patty Sullivan. Betty made an impact on everyone she met! If you are a Betty White fan or a Golden Girls fan then you need to read this book!
Thank You NetGalley and Forefront Books by Simon & Schuster for allowing me to read this Arc. It was truly amazing,
Reading Betty Whites Pearls Of Wisdom by Patty Sullivan which told about their amazing friendship through their many years together. Of course Betty White was an icon of movies, TV, and above all a mentor of all animal causes. She was an exceptional woman! I enjoyed reading about Betty White's life through the eyes of Patty Sullivan! Well worth anyone's time reading!
Patty Sullivan and her family were close friends of Betty White. She wrote this memoir about the times they spent together. I thought there was too much of Patty and not enough of Betty in it. Thanks NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.
I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews for this book so I feel a bit odd not following the trend - almost doubting myself even - but I didn’t adore this book.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Betty - in the sense that I liked her as much as you’d expect someone my age to be aware of someone who’d reached retirement age by the time they were born.
That being said, when she passed and all sorts of stories appeared about her in the media, my interest peaked - hence why I opted to review this book.
The book is more about the author’s life story - which is fine - but it is marketed as Betty’s pearls of wisdoms. It feels a little of a disservice to the author to have to relate everything to Betty to tell their own story. The odd connection to a story felt a little forced. I feel there are two book ideas competing with one another at times.
The writing is lovely and a beautiful way to remember a much-loved icon, but just not what you’d expect from the cover and title.
Thank you for providing me the opportunity to review “Betty White’s Pearls of Wisdom“. I am appreciative and leave my sincerity review voluntarily.
Who doesn’t adore Betty White? Whether you are eight years-old or eighty-eight years-old, chances are you’re a Betty White fan if you have had the pleasure of seeing her perform. This book will make you love her even more! The book is touching. It’s funny. And most of all, it makes you wish there were more people like Betty in our lives. How fortunate author Patty Sullivan is to have known her. How fortunate we are to have Patty share her recollections and memories of Betty with us! We get to know who Betty was on a more intimate and real level. It’s a heartwarming and beautiful glimpse beyond the celebrity curtain.
Did you love Betty White and miss her wisdom? This is the book that contains a lot of her wonderful and warm wisdom. I truly enjoyed reading this book and remembering all of the times that Betty filled the world with her stories and wisdom.
Many thanks to both Forefront Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review a copy of Betty White's Pearls of Wisdom: Life Lessons from a Beloved American Treasure.
Pearls of Wisdom takes a look into Betty’s life as told through the eyes of Patty Sullivan, her lifelong friend. “My remembrances are perhaps an echo of things already said, but I hope my stories hold up a mirror, another reflection of her essence and how she affected my life so profoundly.”
It's best not to go into this book expecting it to be about Betty White's TV shows, her movies, or her passionate advocacy for all members of the animal kingdom. Despite these topics being touched upon, Pearls of Wisdom is more about Betty's impact on the author's life and family. It gives the reader an enjoyable taste of what it was like to simply be Betty's friend.
I was a huge Betty White fan for my entire life. After reading this book I can see she was a great person on and off the screen. Her love of animals was profound and showed in all her many projects to help all the animals she possibly could help. Her love of rescue dogs was amazing. I am glad that her legacy will live on through this great read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Such an inspiring yet sweet book regarding Betty White. It gives you an insight into how she iived her life and living each day to the fullest with as much laughter as possible.
