I remember reading about Jodi Bentley in book 2 of the McKenzies of Ridge Trail series, Stronger Than You Know, and I had a feeling that if she had a story, it would be good. I was not wrong! Jodi is as fascinating as I saw her to be way back when I first read about her. What she had endured was heart-breaking but she had survived and is determined to live a “normal” life. And this was exactly her plan when she moved to Triple Creek, Colorado. Hunter Osborn is also new to Triple Creek, he is a former park ranger who moved here eighteen months prior to find some peace and to heal from his own ordeal. He has been in pretty much seclusion in his isolated cabin in the woods, but that all changed when Jodi becomes his neighbor.
I loved everything about Jodi and Hunter’s story. These two were such tortured souls who were trying to heal on their own (even though they had such amazing friends and family), but they found one another and became exactly what the other needed. I was immediately hooked from the very beginning. Not only do we have strong and amazing characters, including Hunter’s dog Turbo, but it is also so suspense driven. We see some familiar faces and intriguing new ones that definitely added so much to their story. Overall, this was a fantastic start to what is looking like a great series. I can not wait for the next one!
I received an ARC of The Dangerous One from Netgalley, and this is my honest review.
You know what you get from Lori Foster’s thriller/romances. The guy is a sculpted hunk who falls instantly for the heroine. She is spunky and brave and willing to take on the world. There will be some evil guy with equally evil minions who is determined, for some reason, to kidnap the girl and kill the guy. Tension builds throughout the book as the good guys use all sorts of unbelievable hacking and IT skills to find out all about the baddies and to protect themselves. The hero and heroine will hold off on sex until the heroine fully trusts the guy and then they’ll have magnificent sex. Finally, the bad guys will make their moves and the good guys will defeat them in about three pages. So all that build up will all be over pretty quickly and then all the previous heroes with their lovely partners can get together for a reunion of hunky, sexy happiness.
If that sounds like your jam, you’ll enjoy this new entry. If it sounds too formulaic for you, this is not your book. I know what I’m going to get and I enjoy it so this was fun for me. I can suspend disbelief and just enjoy the ride, but it might not be for everyone.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
I do love to occasionally read romance books that have an element of heart-racing suspense. The Dangerous One was perfect for that! Hunter and Jodi each retreat to a life of semi-isolation in the hopes to heal themselves after tortured pasts. Little did they know that on their respective journeys their paths would cross. Instant connection, protective nature and an adorable dog named Turbo make this a fantastic romantic suspense read. I also feel I need to mention how excited I was to realize this is the beginning of a series, because I ADORED Memphis! I cannot wait to read about the next Osborn brother.
Two kindred spirits. Slow burn. Satisfying ending. Jodi buys a place for herself out in the middle of nowhere to work through her past. Her only neighbor is Hunter who has secluded himself for eighteen months. Both have a heavy past. Neither one easily trusts. But their instincts tell them to befriend the other. Quickly, that friendship becomes a love that is both unabashed and unapologetic. The only problem is Jodi's house. The local villain has been using the run-down shack for some storage. Not only has Jodi moved into the space, but she is a badass who knows how to protect herself. With some help from Hunter and her found family*, she'll do just that.
Classic story of Lori's. Some spice, but only a couple scenes. Trigger warning for trafficking/kidnapping. Normally Lori's books have an intense possessiveness coming from the MMC, but this story was surprisingly light. Hunter wanted to protect her and you read this in his thoughts, but he is adamant about letting her trust herself. I missed the (albeit red flag) possessiveness, but it was a nice change of pace.
*As far as I know, Jodi is a character in the McKenzies of Ridge Trail series who gets her own story here. You do NOT have to read that series (as I have yet to) and you'll still be able to follow along easily. Of course, it's on my TBR...
I got the ARC of the book from the author. This is a good start of the series. I have always loved how Lori uses a character from an older series to start a new one. I loved seeing the Mackenzie family in the book. The relationship came too quickly for 2 people who were supposed to be wary but that didn't take away from the story.
Jodi is attempting to get her life on track. She loves her new home and the life she is building. Meeting her sexy neighbor is not what she was planning. Hunter is drawn to Jodi and is finally letting someone in. When Jodi is put in danger her family along with Hunter take care of it. I loved how these two learned to trust and love each other.
Wow! What a great small town, edge of your seat story! Hunter will have you swooning while he tries to ease Jodi's fears, but make no mistake, Jodi isn't a meek woman who needs protecting! 5 amazing stars for this one!
Hunter walked away from his family, his job, after a horrible situation he was in. He's out in the woods, working on cars, all by himself with his dog, which suits him just fine. That is, until he see's this beauty headed his way, on a law mower and she informs him she lives in the disaster of a house that he can see from his property and thought was vacant. She's beautiful, and of course his dog loves her, but he can see she's definitely a force to be reckoned with.
When danger seems to come directly to her door, he's right there ready to protect her, but she shows him just how strong and self sufficient she is. She's had a rough past, and learned to care for herself, but by no means is she alone in the world, she's got the best family behind her, but she likes to take on situations by herself. Having Hunter here to help her is new to her, but when she starts to fall for him, she agrees to let him and the others help her out!
I loved this story so much! It was sweet with Hunter and how he handled Jodi! And the action kept me on the edge of my seat! Well done Ms. Foster!
Jodi moves to the outskirts of Triple Creek to be secluded but quickly learns she has a neighbor who prefers his privacy as well . Jodi & Hunter both have had past experiences that leave them very untrusting and aware of their surroundings . Jodi is instantly infatuated with Hunter’s dog, Turbo but takes longer to warm up to him. They soon learn,Jodi might be in danger as someone is searching for something in her house .
The McKenzies of Ridge Trail consider Jodi part of their family and join in the mission to keep Jodi safe . They sometimes drive Jodi crazy but she knows they just care about her.
This was an exciting and suspenseful story with romance as a bonus! Jodi gets her own book, but still has connections with the McKenzies. Hunter has "hermitted" himself away from the world. He has his dog & his home and is happy being left alone, until he meets Jodi. I love how their relationship goes from just neighbors, to friends, to more, as they go through a crisis together. GREAT read that I give 5 stars!!!
I loved this story and it really only took me 1 day to read. Hunter moved to an isolated cabin after a work incident and he just didn't want to be around anyone except his dog. Hunter was very surprised to see that the landscaper he just met in town has moved into the run down cabin next to him. Hunter is not happy that Jodi has moved here but decided he needed to watch out for her and keep her safe. They quickly become neighbors and have dinner together. The find that they have more in common than they both realize and are drawn to each other. They both have secrets and scars and don't like talking about it. The more time they spend together the more they both realize they are meant to be together. Someone else is not happy that Jodi has bought this abandoned cabin, because they were using it and they want her to leave but at what cost. You won't be able to put this down until you find out. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
As soon as he sees her he knows she is just as damaged as he is, he recognizes the pain she carries in her eyes, the same pain she uses as a shield to keep others from getting too close. As he does the exact same thing, which is also why he lives out in the middle of nowhere, it's the perfect way to keep others away. But he also sees a woman who is struggling, but her pride keeps her from asking him for help, as she is determined to do it all on her own. But Hunter also sees that there is danger lurking at her door and he has never walked away from someone who needs help... no matter the consequences.
The pages of The Dangerous One hold the story of two people who have been dealt more pain and trauma than any one person should and they have found a way to adapt and survive on their own. Hunter and Jodi both prefer the peace and quiet of the woods, the solace it provides, and the privacy it gives them to deal with their demons on their own terms. But once they find out that their now neighbors and not quite as alone as they thought, they begin to lean on one another a bit. But it's a struggle for both of them as they tend to let their pride get in the way of accepting needed help, so it's a slow developing friendship of sorts. Then danger comes knocking on Jodi's door and the protective side of Hunter comes out and it pushes the boundaries or their arrangement, as he wants to be the one to keep her safe and isn't going to let her face it on her own. They battle a bit over it, their stubbornness shows more than a few times, but they do it together... and that's where things between them start to change shape.
This utterly captivating tale had me fully invested in a matter of a few sentences, and it managed to keep me that way until the last page came. I was so wrapped up in the lives of these characters, I just couldn't get enough of the story they had to tell, once I met them I didn't want to let them go. I am really enjoying this new series from Ms. Foster, it's stories are edgy, steamy, suspenseful, and so good for the heart! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
The Dangerous One is the first book in the Osborn Brothers series. The main character Is Jodi from the second book in the McKenzies of Ridge Trail series. I loved this suspenseful romance. Jodi and Hunter were amazing. After reading their story I couldn't decide which one of them was more dangerous as they fight the evil in this world together.
Here is what I really liked about this book: Hunter and Jodi are both cagey, suspicious, well armed, and scarred. I loved that each one had their own arsenal. My favorite line in the entire book was Jodi saying in order to spend the night at Hunter’s place she needed “her laptop, toothbrush, and a few more guns. That cracked me up. I adored Turbo. He stole a lot of the book. I loved that without fail he hopped into Jodi’s bed without invitation and snoozed constantly. I loved how quickly the character fell for each other. I loved that Jodi was bad to the bone and vengeful. I loved that Hunter fell for her super fast and got all alpha male and territorial. The scene where they first got close made me melt. I loved all the spicy scenes between them.
What I didn’t like: this book ended too soon and I wanted more time to read about Turbo (love that name)!
It would be a grave mistake not to add this book to your TBR.
The Dangerous One by Lori Foster starts the Osborn Brothers stories. Jodi Bailey has endured some extremely tough times. She is determined to make some life changes and wants to live by a certain sentiment. "Everyday life for the everyday woman." Then she meets Hunter Osborn. Hunter is a former park ranger who experienced a terrible situation while on the job. He just wants to live in solitude. Then Jodie Bailey moves in next door. They face danger together, a love for a dog named Turbo and a rough road to a Happily Ever After together. I really liked these two main characters. I greatly enjoyed following along as their relationship progressed. This is a great beginning to the Osborn Brothers stories.
Hunter and Jodi have an interesting first meeting. They recognize some similarities in both of their personalities. They are both very closed-off and want to depend on absolutely no one. Then they find out they are neighbors. Hunter is very drawn to Jodi but he can tell she doesn't like anyone getting too close. He has been that way himself. Of course, there is some drama that follows Jodi and Hunter wants to help keep her safe. At first, she doesn't want any help but finally lets her defenses down to let Hunter in and then he does the same as well. They have both been through some traumatic things and find out that having someone there for you doesn't mean you are weak. It means you are loved.
Thank you NetGalley and Lori Foster for the ARC of this great book for an honest review.
After a deadly situation at work, Hunter has taken a break and isolated himself in the country with his hound dog mix, Turbo ( and all I could picture was Sheriff Rosco’s dog, Flash from The Dukes of Hazzard!). Hunter has been grappling with his role and the effects of the matter for some time, but burying himself away from everyone seems to suit him best. Or so he thinks. Then he meets Jodi, spitfire galore, and his world has a whole new meaning. Especially when the local mob like boss comes snooping around Jodi’s new home. He hid something in the previously vacant house and really wants it back!
Honest moment here…I truly had to think for a hot minute who Jodi was! I vaguely remembered she was connected to the Mackenzie family series, but not which book. Regardless of which story, I loved her! Jodi was direct, a bit sassy, and so stinking naive about relationships…yeah, she was a prickly sweetheart and I couldn’t help but root for her! Hunter was perfect for her. He was in tune with her oddities and she was someone he could really open up with. Hunter has a lot of protective instincts clamoring to break loose, but I appreciated how he lets Jodi have her moments to shine too!
A new book series, Hunter and Jodi kicked things off in style! There are some darker situations to deal with, so it isn’t all happy moments and sweetness. Just be aware before diving in. With cameos from a few favorite characters…Parrish and kids… meshed with fine lines of danger and then those romantic moments and some trademark humor, things are off to a great start!
I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oh it was wonderful to be back!! I am so very looking forward to more in the Series! It took me a minute to realize who Jodi was, but then I was even more invested in the book! I enjoyed every twist and turn, I love a kick butt heroine.
I was happy to see how the Hero compliments our Heroine. Can't wait for more!
An honest review of my NetGalley ARC.
Oh my! This story had me hooked from the start. The meet cute was so great. I loved it. Hunter and Jodi were just perfect for one another. He was so patient and kind. She was strong and totally kickass. I loved them together so much and throw in Turbo, Hunter's dog and I about melted whenever these three were together. I didn't realize that this new series is connected to the McKenzies of Ridge Trail series where Jodi had made an appearance. I love that she got her HEA and we got to hear from the McKenzie siblings and Parrish. So much fun. Slow burn sexy romance with some mystery and danger, everything I love about a Lori Foster book. And dare I hope that a redeemable secondary character will also have his own book? Fingers crossed on that. I'm so looking forward to reading more from this new series.
In “The Dangerous One” (Osborn Brothers #1) by Lori Foster we are introduced to Hunter Osborn who has moved to a small town to escape a past that continues to haunt him. But when a feisty, trouble seeking Jodi moves into a cabin not far from his, their past experiences seem to draw their once secluded lives into a very dangerous combined attachment.
Characters you can’t help but love, including a very lovable Turbo. So happy to see the McKenzie family brought back into the fold, I can never get enough Reyes or Madison.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book, and this is my honest voluntary review.
What a great beginning to a new series. In this book we get to see Jodi’s story who moved into a run-down shack near Hunter’s cabin. Jodi became close to the Mackenzie’s and their mission to take down human traffickers. Jodi always knows how to find trouble. When she finds two men snooping outside of her cabin, she knows something is going on. However, to her annoyance Hunter sees them as well and refuses to let her out of his sight. Jodi grows close to his dog and enjoys being around both Hunter and Turbo. This is new for her; she hasn’t been around someone she is interested in ever since she went through her ordeal.
Hunter has secluded himself after his last case as a Forest Ranger. He doesn’t like being around people, he doesn’t like going into town unless he has to, and likes it being just him and his dog. That all changes when Jodi moves in next door. Hunter is a protector, and it is difficult for him to stand back and let Jodi do her thing, although knowing she is fully capable of taking care of herself.
These two characters are fun, strong, independent and watching them learn how to coexist is entertaining. It was good to see Jodi get her HEA and I loved watching the Mackenzie’s get involved in this book. I just wish we could have seen them a bit more instead of as background characters. I loved Tank, he was such a fun dog and had so much character all on his own. The Dangerous One was a great start to this new series and I cannot wait to see where it goes.
