Jodi has always been a wee bit...mysterious? Popping up in the best/worst of times? I have been SO curious about her, and finally, she gets her own story. Small and mighty may best describe her! Love her character. We get to know her and actually feel how far she has come in her life. She is hard to ignore, no matter where you reside in her world.
And Hunter. I think he is just as broken as Jodi, except “little” wouldn’t begin to describe him physically. To me, he and Jodi are immediate soulmates but watching them figure that out was amazing. I loved Hunter, too. He is so wonderful with Jodi. And his dog Turbo; Turbo is SO protective of them both! Hunter and Jodi truly end up being perfect for one another.
“The family” pops back in again, sometimes at the MOST inconvenient times (!), but they adore Jodi and are making sure Hunter is good enough for her. They needn’t worry. Love the mystery and intrigue in the story; kept me on my toes. Loved Turbo (the dog). And I feel better knowing Jodi’s story...and how two people found the perfect “other”. These two deserve their HEA. Great read.
Hunter Osborn located to an isolated property near the town of Triple Creek to try to find peace from the demons that are plaguing him. He is not happy when Jodi Bentley moved into the abandoned cabin next door. When Jodi’s life is threatened, he comes to her aid and they realize that they both are running from demons in their past. They form a bond and join forces to fight their demons and the real threats they face in Triple Creek!
Thanks to Lori Foster and Harlequin Trade Publishing!
This book is the start to a new series by Lori Foster. It is connected to a previous series (McKenzies of Ridge Trail series), but the book stands on its own. I was really excited to get an update on the McKenzies and to realize I had met the main character in a book before! Jodi is one tough cookie, forced to be brave by a traumatic experience in her past. She has moved to Triple Creek to try to find some peace and quiet, and to live a “normal” life. Hunter is a stoic and quiet man, who moved to Triple Creek 18 months before Jodi hoping to hide away from everyone as he recovers from some trauma in his past. When the two meet, they both feel a connection but are hesitant to connect with someone after all they have been through. When trouble finds Jodi, Hunter can’t help but try to keep an eye on her. This was a really great start to a new series, and I can’t wait to see who gets a book in this series next! I received an ARC of this story, and this is my honest review.
This will not contain spoilers! Lori Foster brings us back with Jodi who was a smaller character in Kennedy’s story, “Stronger than you know”. Jodi is a tough, petite, take no prisoners woman! She takes no crap from any man. The hero Hunter has his own demons. He is the tall, brooding, I want no company, yet is drawn to the short, tough as nails Jodi! Enter the scene stealing lovable furry complain Turbo. The Dangerous one could be Jodi who tends to attract trouble without trying but she has been adopted by the Mackenzie family whom her best friend/sister married into. It’s such fun to see where they get involved in this adventure in a small town, which appears to be sleepy, population around 5000 or so. This is a true story of healing, acceptance, and overcoming your past. This was a lot of fun, and wait until you meet Memphis, Hunters brother. He is comic relief,
He reminded me of Armie in the SBC series and Reyes in the Mackenzie series. Highly recommend this!
Hunter and Jodi both ended up in the small Colorado mountain town to escape a troubled past. Hunter had a bad experience when he was a forest ranger and just wants to be left alone. Jodi was traumatized but later taken in by an amazing family that felt like she was now one of theirs and set her up with her own landscaping business. Her mantra is “Everyday life for the everyday woman.”
I loved how the two meet when Hunter is trying to get paid for work done on a classic car and Worth Linlow tries to claim a lower price than agreed with. Then Jodi comes up looking to get paid for her work and Worth doesn’t want to pay her the full price either. This is were Jodi shows her true colors – no one is going to mess with her and she can take care of herself. I loved it.
Things really get interesting when Hunter discovers Jodi has bought the run down property next to his home, the home where he didn’t expect to have any neighbors. Soon his desire to be totally left alone starts to crumble as he worries about her safety, which just annoys Jodi. But there is trouble coming her way and that is when the story takes off.
I loved Jodi and Hunter, but was thrilled to meet Hunter’s brother and touch base with Jodi’s adopted family.
I received an ARC from the author and NetGalley; this is my honest review.
The Dangerous One
By Lori Foster
Due out February 21 2023
WOW! Lori did an amazing job bringing two broken souls together. We first met Jody in Stronger Then You Know
The McKenzie if Ridge Trail series. If you want to know about JodI Bentley’s past you could read that series 1st. But the DANGEROUS ONE can definitely be read as a standalone.
Jodi Bentley comes to the small town of Triple Creek to heal from a traumatic experience. She buys a run down cabin with. NO basement. She just wants to run her new lawn service and live a normal life. She feels Triple Creek is just the place to do that. Little does she know her cabin has been being used by some not so nice guys! And they want back what they feel is there’s.
Hunter Osborn a former park ranger. He is dealing with some demons of his own. He just wants his own seclusion to be able to work some things out. But when Jodi moves in next door, for some reason, he instantly feels the need to protect her. His dog Tubo takes to Jody right away. In fact, his favorite place to sleep is on Jodi’s bed!
This is going to be another great series by Lori Foster. I truly cannot wait for the next book!
I received this ARC from NetGalley as a part of Lori’s street team. This is my honest review.
Lori Foster has started another fabulous series!! If you love action, suspense, humor, romance, danger, family, loyalty & adorable rescue dogs this book is for you!! Hunter Osborn & Jodi Bentley find themselves as neighbors in the middle of nowhere with the intention of living in solitude but that all changes once they start getting to know each other & spending time together. They both have their demons they are trying to escape from but find they actually like & trust each other & eventually confide in each other about their pasts. You will hooked from page one & won’t stop reading till you finish!! We’re also reunited with Parrish & family and you will love Turbo the dog & all his funny quirks. I’m looking forward to Memphis’ book so we can revisit all these wonderful characters!! I received an arc from the author & Netgalley for an honest review.
Jodi Bentley is trying to finally live free and find herself. She has come along way from the traumatized victim she used to be, to the bold as brass dynamo she is today. With the help of the McKenzies, Jodi starts her new life in the small town of Triple Creek with her new self ran lawn care company. She craves the independence her new place represents, even if it is in badly need of repair, so what if she is still battling some demons? Jodi is determined to live a normal life of a normal woman.
Hunter Osborn is battling some demons of his own and recognizes a like soul when he sees one. He is captivated by Jodi the moment he sees her but wishes to keep to his self imposed isolation, until he discovers she is his new neighbor in the house he thought to be inhabitable. His protective instincts won’t allow him to stop checking in on her well being and soon an unlikely and slightly rocky friendship develops. They both have secrets which keeps their guards up but at the same time they both realize that because of their secrets, they are safe with each other.
Trouble comes for Jodi as a local thug orders his minions to retrieve something of his from the shack he used to hide it in, only to find the shack is now a home. The thug decides to instead play games to entertain himself and he wants Jodi to be said entertainment.
We met Jodi in Stronger Than You Know (Kennedy and Reyes’s book), we learned her background and we’ve seen her struggle through some of her demons. To see her mostly past everything, don’t get me wrong there is still a struggle as there should be, but she is sooooo strong and sure of herself it is wonderful to see. There is a vulnerability still present that shows that she is still trying to find herself but ultimately she has succeeded in conquering her past.
Hunter is the best person for Jodi ever, he is suffering from his own demons but he is also a strong male protector. He is confident in the things that Jodi struggles with and can help to bolster her. The fact that he has his own struggles help him to understand Jodi’s demons and really it’s visa versa. I’m excited that we were introduced to new characters that can be included in further stories, I wasn’t ready for this series to end!!
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book.*
Another good one by Lori Foster. It has all the family and animal friendly feels. Jodi and Hunter are both strong characters, finding one another and instant attraction, mixed in with intrigue. I enjoyed the secondary characters and the returning ones as well.

Hunter and Jodi are two troubled souls. They meet in Ridge Trail, Colorado, where they’ve each ended up to escape their pasts, if possible, and to rebuild their lives. They’ve shut out their families and isolated themselves outside of town. Jodi would like to isolate herself from Hunter, too, but finds that impossible to do, especially when she finds that she’s his new neighbor. But there’s a little secret about her isolated cabin, that has unknowingly put her in danger.
Surprisingly, as they get to know each other better, Hunter and Jodi find they have a lot more in common than either could have imagined, and a mutual respect of each other. Hunter wants to protect Jodi but finds that she’s capable of taking care of herself. Jodi speaks her mind and takes no gruff from anyone. She has skills that surprise Hunter. And when trouble comes calling, both have backup more than willing and capable of lending a hand.
There is bad language and sex, but this is such an awesome story!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Warning- if you have anything pressing to do DO NOT start this book because you won't be able to put it down! This one grabbed me from the very beginning and had me capricious captured to the very end. Jodi was fiery but she was had a delicate heart and a wariness that was heart breakenly well-earned. Hunter tried but failed to resist Jodi even though he had his own demons to slay. The danger was presented well, Remmy was a pleasant surprise, the McKenzies' presence was fantastic and Memphis was a hoot. This one had it all- enjoy!!
Intense, good mystery, great romantic suspense! I loved this story of Jodi and Hunter, the demons of their past they fought to overcome, and the current demons who posed a threat. Jodi first appears in the McKenzies of Ridge Trail series, and I enjoyed how they were woven into this story (although reading that series first isn’t necessary). This is a compelling page-turner and I look forward to Memphis’s story!
Hunter is a former park ranger and saw some horrific scenes. He has been living in Triple Creek, in a cabin, with no one around except his dog, who can’t bark. Jodi has secrets that she doesn’t talk about. She moved to Triple Creek and is a landscaper. She meets Hunter in town while trying to get money from Worth, whom she is working for. He fires her but she could care less. Jodi has bought the little cabin next to Hunter. Hunter is not happy but keeps an eye on her. The more time they spend together, the deeper he falls for her. But Jodi has “ family “ looking out for her too and knows when trouble is coming. Can Hunter get her to give them a chance and hopefully keep her out of trouble?
Great story. New series with old friends. Action. Sex. Both are damaged along with Hunter’s little dog. But they both are what they need to come back to the living.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
The one thing that I liked about this story is that Jodi and Hunter are not your usual hero/heroine. Especially Jodi, I loved that she spoke her mind and if she wasn’t sure about something, she asked for clarification. Hunter was a pretty typical “alpha” and wanted to to protect her. But, he really did a great job in letting her handle her situation and holding back (just enough) without being overbearing and letting her know that he trusts her instincts. It does help to read “The McKenzies of Ridge Trail” series. It helps in setting up Jodi’s story. Ms Foster has a great way of introducing secondary characters that will hopefully have their own stories.
I love this book! It has two loner-type people hiding from the world and their pasts when they meet, who learn to face their fears, exorcise their pasts, and let someone else in their lives and hearts. There is romance, suspense, and a cast of characters we’ve net before, that bring a warm familiar feeling. As in most Lori Foster books, there is a lovable pet to steal your heart, no exception here with the “croaky” dog, Turbo. I also get a feeling we’ve met a character we’ll be seeing more of in the future. Happy reading!
What a great start to this series! I loved everything about Jodi and Hunter. They're two people who've each gone through so much and are strong because of surviving their experiences. Turbo is one funny and awesome dog especially with his broken barker! This book had my full attention from the very first page and it was so hard to put it down! I can't wait for the next book in this series!
The Dangerous One was captivating from the first paragraph. It kept you guessing and intrigued from the very beginning. Lori Foster once again delivers a well written, compelling and entertaining story. I highly recommend The Dangerous One.
I can't say this is my favorite book. Hunter is way to pushy on answers when it comes to his new neighbor and doesn't seem to take no for an answer. He's all pushy for her past and information but doesn't reciprocate. Jodi is a tough-as-nails woman i can appreciate though it does feel redundant at times. For Hunter wanting to live off-grid he has a lot of town comforts like on-demand, cell reception and other things and seems to go to town quiet often. The bad guy was mediocre. I just couldn't feel connected with them or the story.
