I was intrigued by the title and the description of this book.
This was a good thriller. I was drawn in from the beginning - I was interested in the narrator, I wanted to know what had happened to her and why. She felt real to me, as though she could have been a personal friend or someone that I knew. This was also light enough to read in one sitting.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.
A very good read that is quite dark at points and maybe not suited to those with a sensitive nature.
Really loved the dual timeline throughout the book with the present and then the 5 years leading up to it all. Plenty of secrets to be discovered with our characters. I like the book's darker side as it's sometimes shyed away with authors but this doesn't hold back. A very enjoyable read.
Thank you NetGalley and Publishers for the ecopy of The Lost Wife.
The Lost Wife is a thriller mystery, I believe. Well it was a mystery to me and it was so so good. I had an unusual need to figure it all out. I read this with bated breath, I found myself like a nervous wreck!
Briefly The Lost Wife is about Lea and her life with Harry, Josh etc. The chapters go to and fro from past to present. I found it all intriguing, the way the novel was written was so captivating and the build up to how and why it happened was marvellous.
The twist at the end blew me straight out of the water. I did not see that coming and I'm usually great at figuring bits out in mystery novels but not a clue this time.
I really recommend this novel to everyone that loves a bit of a mystery, it will certainly keep you guessing throughout.
**TRIGGER WARNING** Animal Cruelty - Dog Death
A woman and a child arrive at a cottage in the Peak District in the dead of night. Alone. Desperate. Haunted. She knows they're coming for her. It's only a matter of time. Because her husband kept a secret from her. Until he was ready to destroy her.
This story has a dual timeline - the present day and the past - one year ago. A new wife. a bloodied veil, and a child taken from his father were more than enough to pique mt interest. With secrets being kept and some really good twists, I couldn't turn the pages quick enough. I had to know what the something terrible that had happened was. The tension builds throughout. I did not care much for Lea or Harry. This fast=paced read held my attention throughout. I never saw the last twist coming.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #GeordinaLees for my ARC of #TheLostWife in exchange for an honest review.
We begin in the present day where a woman and her son are escaping something terrible that has happened on her wedding day, with lots of allusions to the husband not being who she thought he was. We then move back to a year previous, where we start to build a picture of Lea’s life with her partner, Harry and young son Josh.
Lea is only in her mid-twenties, having met Harry whilst she was at university and getting pregnant accidentally early into their relationship. Harry is older, very successful, but suddenly beginning to act very secretively and distant.
Despite this, and all the worries that build up, she agrees to marry him.
As the story progresses, the present day scenes become more and more tense and frightening, as she resorts to desperate measures to keep herself and Josh safe and away from ‘the bad people’. Some of these scenes were quite disturbing, as Josh gets more and more distressed and there are some uncomfortable scenes of violence, including involving a dog, which I really hated.
In the past, as we gradually move towards the present day story, more and more strange and unsettling things are happening to Lea to make her realise that she doesn’t know her husband at all and that her and Josh’s lives may be in danger.
I was a bit conflicted about this book – it was quite gripping and the twists were a surprise. However I didn’t take to the characters, and it could have done with a lot more explanation as to why a lot of things happened as they did! A great twist but… it was a little TOO unbelievable that Lea even went through with the wedding never mind the reasoning behind the twist - which I won’t spoil!
It's not very often that I can say a book blew my mind, but The Lost Wife really did blow my mind.
It's told in two timelines: the present, in which a woman and child show up badly scared and injured at the guesthouse where they're supposed to be spending the woman's honeymoon. Absent is the groom/father. Also is the past narrative, which counts down the months prior to the arrival at the guesthouse. I knew something was up, but I just didn't know what. And the twist, when it came, was satisfying.
The writing was smooth as were the transitions between the chapters and the author was careful to give nothing away until it was time. I'm looking forward to reading more from her.
Thanks very much to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for giving me the opportunity to read a copy of this book in exchange for a review through NetGalley.
Difficult to comment too much on this book without giving a huge amount away but suffice to say it is a psychological thriller and has many twists. The story is told through two timelines - the present time and the build up over the previous five years.
There are a lot of secrets between the characters and much of the plot could have been untied if they had only spoken and trusted each other a little more! On several occasions I was urging Lea to stand up for herself and not be a doormat.
There are several quite graphic scenes and the story covers issues of parenting and control, but it is a tense well written thriller and made an enjoyable read.
With thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter for an advance copy in return for an honest review.
Very clever indeed. Difficult to say too much without giving things away. I will definitely keep reading this authors books. Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Wow this was so so good . The ending is really good I never guessed at all such a good read I couldn't put this book down. Would definitely recommend this book.
Georgina Lees excels at writing character-driven thrillers, and The Lost Wife is no exception.
A woman is on the run with a wounded arm, a bloody veil in the passenger seat, and a child in the back seat.
I don’t want to reveal too much about the plot because it would be easy to give something away.
This psychological thriller has two timelines. The tension and secrets mount with each chapter. The reader feels all the oppressive anxieties the characters do.
It discusses difficult parent/child relationships, gaslighting, and control.
This novel has a lot of brutality and a violent scene that may trigger animal lovers.
Many of the problems could have been resolved if the characters had tried communicating with one another rather than keeping everything locked up.
I feel like Georgina Lees is an underrated author. But she is quickly becoming my go-to thriller author.
If you enjoy evenly-paced, character-driven thrillers featuring characters that might not always be likeable, then you may enjoy this novel.

Lea and Harry are getting married but not all is right with Harry. He is keeping a secret and strange things are happening around Lea.
Well this was a rollercoaster. The story follows two timeframes; the present day, and a year ago. The one year ago story moving on month by month so we see how we get to the present day.
The characters are not particularly likeable, but this did not deter me from page-turning as I wanted to know what was going on. I think the big reveal possibly came a little too late, as soon as the reader knew what was going on, the story was almost over. But I did enjoy and I would recommend, there are plenty of thrills and enough creepy to keep the story moving.
Oh, I had a lot of mixed feelings about this book… And I have no idea where to start this review. So let’s go back to old school the good and the bad style.
Good:
• This story gives you a feeling of claustrophobia and that is exactly what you should feel. Loved how uncomfortable I felt while reading.
• It’s a very character driven story.
Bad:
• The main character was impossible to relate with.
• There were to many plot holes left at the end. Not all questions were answered and you never truly get to understand why she stayed with her husband for so long. I was kind of hoping we would get some inside in that.
• The animal cruelty was absolutely unnecessary.
• The twist wasn’t all that great. Especially because in the next chapter the author explains the twist. A twist needs to be comprehended by the reader at first sight. If you need to explain it, then your twist isn’t good.
Well written and gripping to read! I loved the story and plot and I could not put this down. Had me up at night and even after finishing, it stayed on my mind
The Lost Wife by Georgina Lees is a disorientating, gripping, twisted psychological thriller. This book oscillates between past and present events that will keep the reader on their toes. This approach compliments the high-stakes, tense unfolding of events between Harry & Lea. Obsession, deceit, and secrets shock this relationship, with Lea determined to seek answers on Harry's questionable conduct and behaviour. This results in Lea going down a rabbit hole that will question her relationship, morals, and choices. When you think you have connected the dots, Georgina Lees delivers a shocking ending that I couldn't have predicted. Do not skip this one for fans of psychological thrillers, suspense, and domestic thrillers.
Thank you, NetGalley & HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, for giving me an ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.
Omg! This book is absolutely amazing. I was hooked from the start and the ending absolutely blew me away. Highly recommended.
I received an E-ARC with a request for my honest review.
This psychological thriller follows a woman as she arrives at Bramble Cottage in the peak district. She arrives with a veil covered in blood & a young boy.
Soon she feels danger is all around and will do anything to keep herself and the boy safe.
With an injury holding her back she has to do whatever is needed to escape.
Will she escape? What lengths will she go to, to escape?
This psychological thriller is a hard one to write a review for without leaving any spoilers.
It is a suspense filled read with mystery and secrets to be revealed.
The theme I would say is domestic thriller, where the lies of a husband lead to the events of the storyline.
Overall, a suspense filled psychological thriller, with plenty of mystery and secrets.
I really struggled with this book. It was slow going and I didn't like the main character and found the whole thing farfetched and hard going.
The Lost Wife was a difficult start for me. It alternates between present day and moments up to one year ago, counting down to current time. And…it was slow.
Basically, Harry and Lea are getting married, but more and more, Lea believes Harry is hiding something from her. Most of the time she seemed in denial; I kept wondering why she was going forward with the wedding. At multiple points, friends/family/lawyers ask her if this is really what she wants or to not marry him. But don’t worry…she doesn’t listen.
So we go through all this back and forth leading up to the reveal, and it felt weak. It was like a bad movie villain with a monologue about everything they did and why. And after it was all done, I just felt bad for the victims since it all felt so unnecessary.
The Lost Wife was an okay read that was slower than expected.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollinsUK and One More Chapter HC for the review copy.
I have very mixed feelings on this, mainly because i spent a lot of time rolling my eyes at the main character. Dubious decisions and weak choices made......but i didnt see the ending coming and then that does kind of explain some of the decisions so it left me feeling odd! Overall enjoyable
This book was sent to me by HarperCollins UK. I really enjoyed Georgina Lees' previous book so I was really looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately, I never got into it. You know the husband kept a secret and that 'bad people' are coming but nothing really develops until almost the end. And once the twist is revealed; even though, it was not expected, it wasn't that shocking to overcompensate
Still, thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC!
