This book is told in two timelines. One in the now and one from a year ago. When the story begins, it is apparent that something has gone horribly wrong. A woman and child arrive at Bramble cottage, rented for memorial honeymoon. But where is the groom, why is the woman injured and hurt and the child so upset. What happened to make a perfect day go so horribly wrong?
This is one of those books where almost everything I want to say, is surrounded by shark infested, spoiler waters( and it had a heck of a twist🤫). I can say that the relationship between Lea and Harry seems pretty perfect at first glance, but fairly soon, secrets and lies are flying out of their closets. So no, this is not a they lived happily ever after tale. It was, however, a twisty one, and it took me a while to figure out what was going on with these characters. An enjoyable plot that kept me flipping my Kindle pages to figure out just what the heck happened to ruin this relationship and the perfect wedding day.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
The wife and son arrive at the honeymoon cottage without her brand new husband. The child is terrified and the wife is injured. Something has happened and the “bad people are coming “. The wife is desperate to escape the “bad people “ with the child and nothing will stand in her way. This story is told alternating in the months before the wedding and immediately after the wedding. What happened to Lea the wife and Harry the husband straight after the wedding and why did Harry change and become secretive in the months before the wedding. This has a fabulous twist. The best mystery I have read in a long time 5 stars
My thanks to Net Galley, Harper Collins UK, and the personal invitation I received to review this twisty domestic thriller.
Why would a woman grab her son ,run away from her wedding that she dreamed of and arrive at a cottage she rented fearing "the bad people that are coming?" That's what this story tells. It is told in flashbacks to the past leading up to the wedding and present time.
I really liked this book because it kept building up to the WHY and making you turn the pages in anticipation as to what the groom really did. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
The Lost Wife by Georgina Lees was a heart pounding, captivating thriller.
.This story kept me guessing til the very end and intrigued me completely.
The storyline and the characters are so well built that you will feel like you are watching it all unfold right before your eyes.
Atmospheric and well written, compelling and with a wonderful sense of place.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You Netgalley and One More Chapter for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this eARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed piecing this thrilling mystery together. Nothing was as it seemed and the reveals became more shocking than the last. An addicting page turner.
What a twisty story! I genuinely had no idea how this was going to end! A dark domestic thriller, where nobody is who they seem. Easily Ms. Lees’ best one yet.
I found this a bit slow ams felt it just dragged everything out. The rwist was good and was the kind that made me rething everything I thought I knew but I did start to skim bits just so I could get to some kind of action. I liked the characters and the flashbacks but it was just a little bit too character based for my personal tastes. Absolutely nothing wrong the book as a whole though and I've no doubt it will be loved by readers who like that character focused narrative
A woman and a child arrive at a holiday getaway in Derbyshire.
But things are not what they seem. They are running from the bad people who are out to get them. But who are they and why are they after this pair?
The story is told in flashbacks. We begin to understand a bit more about the lives of the people involved. The author has written in a style that will keep you guessing who is at fault until the very last pages. This is a fantastic psychological thriller one which will keep you gripped throughout.
Many thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to see an advance copy of this book.
Unfortunately, I didn't like this one that much. It took me some time to get into the story and it took a long time for the twist to come. It was an unexpected ending and finding out that Emma was actually the whole time with Josh and not Lea, but I have to say that it's the only thing I liked about it. I just wanted to find out who these bad people were and what happened with Harry, but most of the time while reading I was feeling bored. It's not a bad book, but it didn't work out for me.
Thank you One More Chapter, Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for the ARC!
Totally unexpected story that once you got to the end you felt the need to go back and start from the beginning to see what I missed. Read in one sitting.
Thank you netgalley for complimentary copy.
Lea lives in Redland, Bristol and wonders why her boyfriend Harry won’t marry her. Told in monthly flashbacks as their wedding gets closer interspersed with scenes on the run with Josh but without Harry, we are invited to make sense of this domestic mess.
It’s never a great sign when a long final chapter is required to ram home/explain the twists and turns just in case the reader didn’t get it first time round. A swift and engaging read but all a bit too clunky for me.
The Lost Wife is a thriller told in alternating timelines, the present day and the year before. Lea and Harry have been together for a while, have a young son and live an idyllic life. He's quite a bit older than her, wasn't keen on getting married but Lea feels that calling to become his wife. After he proposes tho he becomes more and more secretive, controlling and as they're planning their dream wedding, Lea starts to wonder if she's making a mistake by marrying him. This was a fast paced story that continuously keeps you guessing with a wicked ending that I didn't see coming. Great read.
Mixed feelings about this one, it took a long time for the twist to come and for a lot of the book, the main character was impossible to relate to, trigger warning animal abuse. It is told both in the present and the few months leading to the present and it was hard to make sense of why she was staying with him and why she would marry a man that was so distant with so many secrets. Never became clear. So it was interesting in some ways and disturbing in other ways, but not the good kind of disturbing for me
The Lost Wife is a fast paced thriller with a killer twist.
Written in a dual timeline, one in the present day and one in the past moving towards Lea’s wedding day.
The plot is intriguing, we know something terrible has happened but we don’t know what.
The two timelines converge in a major twist that leaves you reeling.
None of the characters are hugely likeable, although at times I felt for Lea. But the unreliable narration makes you question everything.
A gritty thriller. For me not quite as good as the woman upstairs, but still a good read.
Lea meets Harry one evening and although he is quite a bit older than her, she agrees to go out with him. He is a successful business man with money. In a short space of time she has fallen for him and becomes pregnant. Harry however is adamant that he doesn't want to marry.
Lea starts to feel he is hiding something but can't figure out what.
This book is a true psychological thriller with many twists and turns.
I dare you to guess.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Lost Wife by Georgina Lees. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is quite an adventure. Lea and Harry are engaged to be married. They have a young son, Josh. All does not appear to be quite happy in their little family, however. Lea worked in an art gallery but as their wedding approaches she has not been working. Harry's job keeps him out late and he has become increasingly secretive around Lea.
The story goes back and forth in time, each chapter relating to the past moves forward by one month, until the time lines match up.
I wasn't completely sure what was going on for most of the present time line. As the book progressed it became more obvious what was actually going on but honestly it was a bit dark even for my taste. It did keep me guessing as to the identity of the REALLY BAD PERSON but it was kind of a let down at the end.
An engrossing thriller that kept me interested.
I didn't see the twists coming. So that was surprising 5*****
I absolutely LOVE a thriller that has me second guessing myself throughout. Even better is when I didn’t even get close to working it out.
Lea gets engaged to Harry and part of the story focuses on the months preceding the wedding. Lea and Harry have a son together and we see how their relationship changes and develops following the change to Fiancé status.
The other parts of the story focus on the present day, aka the day of the wedding and what happens following the wedding itself.
I’ve just finished this novel and I can’t quite believe it all. This is just one of those novels that you have to read because….well, you’ll keep wanting to know more and see if you can figure it all out.
A great start to the book for me, then I wasn't sure as the story progressed but then I got so engrossed I just couldn't stop reading and by the end I felt as though I had been in a spin dryer.
All the characters were well developed and it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins (OMC) for this brilliant ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.
A really good book, it had me enthralled from the very beginning, I look forward to more books in the future
