“His Secret Wife” by Lisa Timoney is a gripping contemporary novel that delves into the complexities of relationships, motherhood, and the shocking secrets that can unravel the fabric of what seems like the perfect life.
The story revolves around two women, Elle and Jen, who lead seemingly idyllic lives. Elle is content with her hard-working husband, their clever little boy, and a beautiful home in a quaint neighborhood. Jen enjoys a passionate relationship with her doting husband, a creative little girl, and a fulfilling career. Their paths cross due to a strange coincidence, leading to a close friendship. However, their world turns upside down when they discover a shocking truth: they are both married to the same man.
As they grapple with the betrayal and the implications of their shared husband, Elle faces another crisis—her son’s health is in jeopardy. With her world crumbling, Elle finds herself in a position where Jen might be the only one who can help her. The question that arises is whether Jen can set aside her feelings of hurt and betrayal to assist the woman who has unwittingly been her rival, and whether Elle can trust Jen with her child’s life.
The characters are well-developed, and their emotional journeys are portrayed with sensitivity and insight. The narrative is structured in a way that the suspense is maintained throughout, making it hard to put the book down. The themes of motherhood and friendship are explored with nuance, and the moral dilemmas faced by the characters are relatable and thought-provoking. “His Secret Wife” is an emotionally charged novel that tackles difficult subjects with grace and compassion.
"Shared Secrets" is an exciting story about Elle and Jen. They become good friends at a parent ADHD group. Both have happy lives with their husbands and kids. But things get complicated when they find out they are married to the same man!
As Elle and Jen deal with this news, their friendship is tested. The book also shows how Elle, Jen, and their kids Harry and Cora become close. There are many surprises in the story that keep readers interested till the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the opportunity to read His Secret Wife.
Drama filled suspense!!!!! Imagine finding out your husband has another wife!
The pages turn themselves. You won't believe the suprise ending!
The characters are well represented and the plot is deliciously devious.
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of His Secret Wife by Lisa Timoney from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. HOLY COW this book is one heckuva ride! So many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. I loved this book and can't wait to read more by this author.
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
A really good read that was gripping right from the start. I couldnt out it down I had to know what happened and why
A really easy read about two women whose lives are more connected than they realise. Great characters I could visualise and devoured in a day!
This was a brilliant twisty book. Full of red herrings and it took you up different directions until the end. Loved this one.
Told by 2 different main characters ( the two wives). Such a thought provoking read . I liked how it touched on the subject of AHDD. I will certainly be checking out her other books.

the book did not disappoint. It was such an emotional story that I could not put it down and I would definitely recommend it.
It was my first time reading a book by Lisa Timoney, but it definitely will not be my last!
3/5 stars
Jen and Elle are two women with seemingly near perfect lives. The main problem is their husband s works away or is away alot. Both mothers have to face the possibility their kids have some form of adhd but their husbands aren't as supportive or present. They met and become firm friends.
Everyone has a secret and they soon discover their husbands are the same man.
The story took a while to get going as the backstory was used to bring realism to the story. Told from Jen and Elle points of view the story is well crafted. You are treated to a realistic unravelling when the truth cone out.
The real skill is the writers knowledge of adhd. Some how this story takes on very deep ideas about what is normal and what is not and the way society deals with this and rhe lack of info and public funded support.
Highly recommended 5 stars
His Secret Wife by Lisa Timoney
Wow! Can you imagine if you found out the man you are married to has another secret family...this book for me was interesting and had enough going on made me want to keep turning the page to see how it all turns out. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me read this book and leave my opinion.
What a great book! I found myself looking forward to stealing 20 mins of peace and quiet in the house so I could read some more! Really ropes the reader in and is not as predictable as it could have been which makes it even better! The author has a great writing style too…I love how well you actually feel you know the characters! I enjoyed learning a bit more about the disorders described. I feel there were a lot of interesting “sub stories” to the main story regarding things not always being as they appear, everybody has their own troubles, etc., Highly recommend! This would be a great beach read! Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for allowing me to provide feedback on this great book! Looking forward to reading Lisa’s other books as well!
Loved this one and just couldn’t put it down. It was an excellent read. Very different to what I was expecting. Quite a slow read but, I kept going and enjoyed it immensely. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
"Who says why not? when someone proposes marriage?
Someone with reasons why not...that's who."
His Secret Wife was my first book by this author and I flew through it. I really enjoyed it and thought it was very well plotted. I also liked the way the author handled the neurodivergent characters well and with sensitivity. The story of men having secret families is not a new one but this had some unexpected angles to it that worked really well.
Elle has a perfect life. A dream home, hard-working husband and a clever little boy.
Jen has a job she loves, a passionate husband and a creative little girl.
When coincidence throws Jen and Ellle together they become fast friends...and then they discover they have the same husband.
The two women are opposites but their husband knows how to manipulate them both so they don't suspect him of anything.
His Secret Wife had so much more going on than just this story. I loved how the author got into the nitty gritty of being a mother, how sometimes it is hard and you can lose your identity in motherhood.
"Before I had Cora I had no idea of the guilt involved in being a mum. Guilt because you always felt like you were letting your colleagues down. Guilt because your school was in after-school club every day. Guilt because finding the perfect Cleopatra seemed more important and a lot more stimulating than watching Finding Nemo with a seven-year-old. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was doing badly at everything."
There were a lot of different topics covered within this story and I could not put it down!
I found this book quite a slow read and really didn't live up to my expectations.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the ARC
His Secret Wife by Lisa Timoney is a great book. I loved reading it and could not put it down. This is the story of two women who have it all…a great husband, a perfect life, a wonderful child and a beautiful home. What could possibly go wrong?
Both women have husbands who travel weekly and sometimes are only home for a weekend. Meeting because their children each have learning problems, they become friends while attending a parenting session about the children’s learning disabilities. As they become closer, they begin to discover that their lives are a lot alike. Each of their husbands is gone for long periods, and when they are home, are not engaged, except with the children. They finally find that they are sharing the same man. What happens to the two of them and their children?
I was so caught up in their lives that I could not put the book down until the end. I had a premonition while reading the first part of the book that I would find that one husband had two wives, but was unprepared for the repercussions.
I think that this novel was very well written and kept the reader in suspense throughout the book. I also was impressed that even thought the signs were there, the reader kept guessing until the end. Although it was a sad story, I felt that the feelings of both wives and children were well described.
I found this book quite a slow read and not at all as I had expected. I am glad I didnt give up on it, but persevered and saw all the ends tied up.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the ARC
Slow and not remotely believable. There were parts that were ok, but not anything that I'd read again. The synopsis is misleading in that it's nothing life threatening that the child is suffering from. Not what I was expecting and it felt like a bait and switch.
