The plot idea was good, when I read it I was interested but it did not live up to my expectations, but it was still a good read. Honestly I would have loved it to be a little twisted. But this was a book about finding relationships, self love and family, about developing yourself. It was a good read but maybe because my expectations were different I didn't enjoy it.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a eARC in exchange for a honest review.
The story of two women discovering they are married to the same man has been done over and over again, but this one is told with a new twist.
The twowomen meet through their children, become frinds, and discover their children share more than the same medical condition.
The book is entertaing, characters are wonderfully devolped and the story is new and refreshing.
Recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an advance copy of this book in return for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book at first seems like any other family drama but its far more! Told from the point of view of two mothers with 7 year old children, it touches on the many issues of being a mother with present day issues of work, relationships, social life and all the emotions which this entails. In addition this book very sensitively approaches the topic of having children who are 'different' from the 'norm'. Add in drama, mystery, friendship and seasonal tension and this is a really good read. I loved it. Well done to Lisa for such a wonderful novel.
Two women learn by accident they are married to the same man, they become friends, their children are friends. keeps your attention all the way through.
I loved both of Lisa Timoney’s previous books, but I think that this is her best yet!
Told in a dual narrative between Elle and Jen, these two very different woman are both hugely relatable in their attitudes and their love for the children. As a tentative friendship grows between them, I found myself willing them to take a risk and reach out for help.
In the middle section of the novel, Timoney ratchets up the tension chapter on chapter until I had to force myself not to read so fast that I missed something. Such great plotting.
The writing is seamless, too, without a word out of place. Jen is a theatre director and I loved the way the production of Anthony and Cleopatra brings an unexpected dimension to the prose. So clever.
I planned to read this book over the coming week. Instead, I devoured it in two days. Absolutely loved it and can’t wait for more from this talented author.
This book is rated number 1 for me absolutely amazing loved every chapter ....so heartwarming and full of hope in a tough situation a kind of what would u do scenario? 10/10 loved every minute :)
This is the most consuming, original, clever and moving book I've read in some time. Two perfect seeming families each with an adorable child ,good standard of living and a hard working husband. The only fly in the ointment appears to be his having to work away several days a week. Then in each family the child is having trouble adjusting to junior school and each is subsequently diagnosed with autism disorders. Therein begins a voyage of discovery and throws all their worlds into turmoil .
Despite the sadness, devastation and deceit comes hope, friendship and love.
Lisa Timoney writes with such empathy, knowledge and compassion ,she draws the reader totally into her world. The characters are assured, relatable and believable. The children's characters in particular were written with such love they tore my heart out while I was falling in love with them. Brilliant!
His Secret Wife was the perfect combination of drama & suspense. I love the plot, characters, and emotional ending. I devoured this book in less than 2 days! It was my first time reading a book by Lisa Timoney, but it definitely will not be my last!
Elle is living the ideal life. She and her husband, Rob, have a beautiful son and are raising him in a lovely home. She has everything she could want.
Jen is also happily married and has a beautiful little girl. She loves her job as director at a theater and never imagined she could be so happy.
Elle and Jen meet by chance at a support group and become good friends, something they realized they both lacked. Their children have also grown close. Unfortunately, their happiness is cut short when they find out that they are both married to the same man. How can their friendship ever survive such a shock?
The story is written from both Elle and Jen's perspectives. I appreciated getting to know both women separately and liked both of them a lot. Elle was a bit of a pushover, but she didn't know how to be any other way. Jen was completely opposite, but their friendship was wonderful. I was worried that the ending would be disappointing, but it wasn't badly done.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review
Overall this was a good well written book, a bit slow to start with for me but I did get into the storyline. It was a good family drama although I didn't really gel with the characters.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for this ARC which I would recommend but not buy it for myself.
I really enjoyed this book but felt that the first half of it was a bit slow and could have been covered in a couple of chapters. I felt sorry for the two women but I didn't really like either of their characters and felt it hard to bond with them. An interesting read covering difficult subjects but didn't really feel true to life.
I really wanted to like this one. I requested it because the description gave me thriller vibes, but it ended up being a more emotional read. As readers, we know right away the two women are married to the same man and are not aware of each other. But it took until halfway through the book for the “big reveal” to even happen. It was very slow moving. I was just waiting for more drama and more excitement but it never came. I will say, without giving away too much, the spotlight on mental health and neurodiversity in children was informative and well written and well incorporated into the story. I know the feeling of being a mother, ready to fight for her children…and these women fought hard. Overall it was a well written story but slower than I prefer and I found myself putting it down frequently.
A well researched and thought provoking subject matter sits at the heart of this book. As with her other novels, Lisa's characters are well drawn, realistic and sympathetic. I found it difficult to put down once I started reading & it was over too quickly! Highly recommended
Overall a fairly decent read- I felt it was off to a slow start for awhile and wasn’t sure where the story was going but it finally evened out and became more interesting. The ADHD component did not seem to flow easily in the story about the two women-Jen and Elle, the children and the husband they discovered they shared. It felt that the author was trying to tie all these things together and it didn’t make sense to me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
"His Secret Wife" is about two womens lives and they happen to meet at a support group because their children are each being tested for ADHD. Little do they know that they share more than that!
This book is well written because the chapters alternate between the two women's perspectives. It also dives into different aspects of ADHD, which I personally found very interesting, and it conveys a lot of different emotions. It's also not overly predictable even though you know roughly what the outcome will be.
I have just read His Secret Wife in one sitting, only stopping to eat. It is a beautifully written story about two families whose lives meet because of their children’s similar shared experiences. We know Elle and Jen will discover they share a husband, but the why, how and when keeps the pages turning. The unfolding of the story is cleverly crafted. Lisa Timoney’s sympathetic writing of the children’s conditions, and the relationship with their mothers, is heart wrenching and endearing. I also feel I have been educated about neurodiversity without being patronised. I highly recommend this book, just gorgeous!
Possible spoiler: Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC. This was my first book of this author's and I really enjoyed it. The story of 2 women who are found to be married to the same man. It is hard to imagine that someone would do something that sneaky as having two families and keeping up the lies. But I guess it is not impossible. It is just hard to believe that the wives were so understanding and didn't seem suspicious. I enjoyed the back and forth points of view of Jen and Elle and the story of their children who are struggling in school and their diagnoses of ADHD and Selective Mutism. All and all a good read that I would definitely recommend.
I felt bad for the wives when they found out the kids had the same father. Def realistic though.
I really enjoyed the novel. I felt the characters were realistic. I did not care for Rob at all!
Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I found I skimmed more than anything. I thought it would be more exciting and "on the edge of your seat" than it was. Just not for me.
Jen and Elle become fast and close friends. So do their children who both happen to have ADHD. So it's no surprise when, after an accident between the kids, they find out they have the same father.
This story had so many secrets that were uncovered as things progressed. A solid domestic thriller with a lot of drama and emotion.
