A heartwarming and romantic tale set in the charming coastal town of Rosemary Bay. The story follows Melanie Simpson, who inherits a crumbling beach house from her grandmother and decides to restore it to its former glory. Along the way, she meets Josh Claiborne, a local carpenter with a troubled past. As they work together, they uncover hidden letters that reveal the house’s mysterious history and bring them closer together.
Hale’s writing beautifully captures the essence of new beginnings, love, and the importance of family. The characters are relatable and the setting is vividly described, making it a perfect summer read.
Blurb:
“Oh, my goodness,” she whispered. At the bottom of the box was a stack of letters. Tied with a ribbon, the pages were faded with age. “These are all addressed from here,” she said, “but they’ve never been sent.”
When her gram passes away, Melanie Simpson feels utterly lost. She has no idea what to do with her life after she has devoted years to looking after her beloved grandmother.
But Gram’s will may hold the answer, instructing Melanie to use her inheritance to buy a crumbling house in Rosemary Bay. They used to visit the village every summer, sit by the sparkling gulf on a beach the color of a fresh pearl, and daydream about turning the place on the corner into a bed and breakfast.
My thoughts:
I loved this book! The cover instantly drew me in as well! I love the world that was created within the book and I looked forward to reading all the letters. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley, Jenny Hale, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book!
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book! The title and this beautiful cover drew me in and i was excited to read this book! I will be recommending this book to others for readers advisory.
Really great summer read that I enjoyed. The author put a lot of thought into the characters and the story itself.
Perfect beach read!
This is a good book. The two main characters are Melanie and Josh. They meet when Melanie buys a house in Florida. She needs to do a renovation on the house, the best person in town to help her is Josh. He is leaving to go live in New York in a couple of weeks, but said he will help her as much as he can till he has to leave. There is an instant attraction. They both have issues but together they work it out and fall in love.
Such a nice easy heartwarming story. The characters are well written and the plot kept me interested. I highly recommend this fun beach read!
Melanie is his feeling lost after taking care of her grandmother for a few years making it her priority. Melanie is asked to restore a worn beach house that she and her grandmother had loved. With so much to have to work on she asked local Carpenter Josh for help. Josh loses a bet and now is going to help her during his short stay there. The longer they are around each other sparks fly but it's only matter of time before he has to leave. Melanie's also getting to know more about her grandmother and the man who built the house and history of a long buried love.
I mean this was a really cute book I really enjoy that see what was in some of the letters. Melanie is a romantic at heart and she would really loved the letters that were left to her. It was interesting seeing as she diving more into the history. Then there was the whole Josh situation where he was trying to run from his current life and somehow Melanie pulled him in or something would happen that would get him staying longer and I really loved seeing how everything played out in this book I really enjoyed it.
The Beach House is a delightful summer read set in Rosemary Bay. The story weaves a heartwarming tale between Melanie Simpson and Josh Claiborne, two independent souls searching for happiness. I especially liked the blend of mystery, love, and drama that connected the main characters with the townsfolk in the close-knit community. The story has the right amount of twists and turns that kept me interested. I liked the inclusion of the hurricane and how it drew the characters together at the beginning. The mystery surrounding the Ellis House kept me turning the pages as the novel progresses. This book is the perfect companion for a lazy summer day. If you're looking for a beach read with all the feels of the sea and sun, this romance is for you.
I received a review copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the perfect book for someone looking for a Hallmark/Lifetime movie type book! This was a quick, fairly lighthearted read. Overall, I enjoyed this but I don’t think it is a book that will stay with me for a long time. I would recommend this book to certain people I know but its not a book that will be recommending to everyone. There were a few reasons this didn’t work as well for me as I hoped. The biggest reason was it felt too insta-lovey to me. They fell hard and fast and I just felt like they were making big decorations after not knowing each other long. Another reason is I found Josh to be a frustrating love interest! Overall, it was an enjoyable quick read. This was a 3.5 stars for me.
Jenny Hale is a favorite and she's written another great beach read just in time for the summer season. Great story and characters, did not disappoint. Definitely recommend.
While the plot follows a familiar trajectory in the romance genre, Hale injects fresh twists and turns that keep the story engaging. The pacing is steady, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the coastal atmosphere while eagerly anticipating the resolution of conflicts and the characters' personal growth.
The characters in "The Beach House" are well-rounded and relatable, each with their own unique backstories and dreams. The MC's journey of self-discovery and healing is sensitively portrayed, and her interactions with the townspeople bring a sense of warmth and authenticity to the narrative. Hale skillfully explores themes of love, forgiveness, and the importance of embracing new beginnings.
"The Beach House" is a feel-good novel that will leave readers with a sense of hope and a renewed appreciation for the power of love and community.
A very light hearted fun read of a girl renovating to make a bed and breakfast following her grandmothers wishes and uncovering family history and romance on the way.
Liked this book enough to finish it but felt like something was missing the entire time while reading it. It lacked character development and at times felt rushed.
so much fun. romance, suspense, the Beach. what more can you ask for. Family history that can bring together or tear apart
Thank you to Netgalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and the author Jenny Hale for the chance to review this book.

This is a very charming summer read. I enjoyed the multiple story lines and romance from the past through letters and the present with the main characters. Everything was tied up in a bow by the end to make perfect sense.
Pick this one up, if you'd like something fun and quick!!
This was a wonderful book! It is filled with family secrets, new beginnings and long lost love shared from decades past. It also has elements of mystery, romance, drama, and suspense. It was such an enjoyable book to escape into to.
This is a charming, feel-good story. The writing and storytelling are superb with descriptions that transport the reader into the story. I loved the relationship between Melanie and Josh and their fairytale, romantic moments! They worked well together as they dealt with the secrets the letters revealed. I also liked the parallels between Melanie and Eloise that connected them to Alfred. If you love a HEA, this is the book for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Perfect sweet, fun beach read. Lovely story about love and starting over.
Thank you Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), for the ARC!
This book made me feel so many emotions as I was reading it. I missed Melanie's gram just like she did. Felt sorry for Cole but he seems so happy where he is now. The list goes on and on.
I enjoyed the fact that Melanie bought the house that her grandmother loved and wanted her to own. The fact that it was run down and needed a lot of work made it more special. She could fix it up the way she wanted.
The book was truly a great read and now I feel a little lost because all my newly acquired friends are gone.
Thank you Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book. What a wonderful story about love and starting over.
I had a hard time putting this one down. I will now read more books by Jenny Hale.
