Very helpful handbook for us beginners!
I appreciated all the detailed information and I can truly say that my first time taking care of a garden was certainly party due to this book. I am very thankful for that!
This is the type of aspirational book that lures me in at the library. Except I have a black thumb so usually those books at the library are far beyond my capabilities. A beginners guide is exactly what I need with lots of pictures and instructions on common plants I can grow inside. This is the type of resource the common unskilled individual needs.
5/5
Around the time that I turned 30, something in my brain clicked into place and I became obsessed with plants and gardening. When it comes to plants, there is so much to learn and it can become overwhelming pretty quickly. Beginner’s Houseplant Garden is a great tool for beginning your houseplant journey. The book includes several different types of plants that will thrive in your house and each plant has a plethora of useful information for taking care of the plant. One of the best things included is the correct way to propagate each plant. Learning to propagate is, by far, one of the most satisfying and rewarding plant tips and tricks.
All in all, the Beginner’s Houseplant Garden is a beautiful book filled with amazing pictures and amazing information!
This is a great beginner's guide to houseplants and I even learned a few things I didn't know beforehand!
the images in this book are fantastic. The author not only visually demonstrates house plant decor, but also discusses easy-to-grow house plants for those who may be intimidated by plants. The book gives details on lighting, watering, soil mixtures, fertilization, humidity levels, and common pests. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. Many species of house plants are represented in the book, and many may already be known to the audience. If basic plant health care is what you need, this book is a good read.
Very informative. I love that it has a lot of colorful images of plants.
Every aspect of caring for the plant is clearly explained and it is arranged in a way that will enable readers to understand.
This is my first plant related book and it was a nice read.👍
*Thanks to the publisher for making this book available for review via Netgalley. This review is voluntary and contains my honest thoughts and opinions of the book.*
I love this easy guide to indoor plants for beginners! It is set out in a great format with each chapter focussing on the type of plants and their requirements. Complete with beautiful photos, this is a great book to assist with budding plant lovers that want to grow a green thumb. I would highly recommend this one and am going to buy the physical copy of this book myself.
Thank you to Fox Chapel Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
This is a good catalog for indoor plants and their specialties. I liked the sections provided. Most favorable plants I find were from Air-purifiers and Diva-plants (Elephant ear and prayer plant). Besides being a book lover, I like gardening too, and that's why it is so amazing to read and get acknowledged about such beautiful plants and their specific qualities. Few though I already have in my drawing room and on my work table, I now would like to purchase more and decorate my living room as well.
For once I thought it was a painting of plants but later I found the photography so classy. I would love to keep this and go on getting each one of these plants one by one and even start gifting few to my friends and family.
Have you longed to have an indoor garden of houseplants but thought it too difficult an enterprise? Let me introduce you to Winner of the Judges Choice Gold Medal in the 2021 Royal Horticultural Show Jade Murray’s latest book - Beginners Houseplant Garden. She nurtures her creative flair with an indoor garden. This is a beautifully illustrated book where she takes a deep dive into houseplants. Starting with why we need houseplants to their care and a lot in between. Murray dedicates her book to her 3 children – nothing new. However, when an author sees her children as various plants I recognise she is passionate about her subject. That excites me.
Advising on which plants to choose, starting small with not more than 3 plants, she deals with everything from the pot size one chooses, the growing conditions needed, the different diseases that could afflict the plants, the whole caboodle. From the humble Coleus to the more exotic plants. Most of us are guilty of falling in love with a plant and buying it on impulse without considering numerous issues regarding the plant itself including does one have an environment or the space suitable for it. And what about the tools one needs? I had no idea that there were some plants that are easier to grow than others. I also could not help noticing that all the plants had a high humidity level.
Murray also discusses propagation. Um…...a great way to increase one’s own stock and also generate gifts, maybe. One learns about terrariums and air plants - I was fascinated with both of them. Hey, there are Diva plants too, and yeah like the name suggests they are a stroppy bunch. Lol
Those of us who would like to share our adventure on social media will find the section on photography helpful.
Yup, loved this book and found it inspirational. Guess when one can’t have an outdoor garden or it’s a tiny one Murrays book would be quite useful. But honestly anyone would find this book useful as a houseplant garden is a doable and has many benefits as she will tell you. This gorgeous book is a keeper both as a reference and its content. It would also be a wonderful gift to encourage a newbie gardener or a family hobby.
This is an excellent starter book for those beginning plant parents out there! It makes the whole hobby very approachable & fun, taking so many typical questions and worries away! Even with a more experienced plant lover, you will still find information to learn from. I love the quick care tips & recommendations! I also like the info about propagation, which I am just starting to dive into more.
Besides being a book lover I'm also a plant lower. I don't have a whole hoard of them but I have enough that you know I'm a lover. Being a plant mom means that sometimes things go wrong and you end up losing a plant. I hate when this happens. I always feel awful after a plant dies, like I've let it down. So, when I saw Murray's Book I knew I needed to read it. The book is very informational and concise. Murray doesn't overload you with information, but rather gives you everything in an easy-to-read format I have a lot of the pants
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. I found this a clear, well-organized, didactic book on houseplants. The photos were lovely and the instructions clear and straightforward.
Great read for beginners,I learned a few things that I didn't know plus I found out what I was doing wrong.
An invaluable guide to anyone who loves planys but doesn't have that grren thumb they'd love to have. The top 40 easiest plants and how to take care of them. I found it easy to read and understand and it has definitely helped my plants live through this winter.
A super book for starting out with houseplants in your home! Good information on the 40 easiest plants to introduce, their care, propagation, etc. Well written and recommended.
BEGINNER'S HOUSEPLANT GARDEN by Jade Murray is a great resource for those looking to grow houseplants. She promises the "Top 40 Choices for Houseplant Success & Happiness" and provides an overview of each, with images and details about quick care tips, feeding and watering. Murray also comments on the best environmental factors like sun exposure, humidity or temperature levels, preferred soil mixture, and pest control. Her beginning section offers several general rules (e.g., start off with three plants at the most) and she splits her choices into six chapter ranging from "Really Easy Indoor Plants" to "Diva Plants." An Index is included. The images and formatting are MUCH better in the "look inside" sample on Amazon than they were in the digital preview.
Thank you to the author, Fox Chapel Publishing and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is an amazing resource for people not just for beginners, but for people looking to expand their knowledge about houseplants. It's very well structured, starting with easy and uncomplicated plants and moving to the more demanding and sensitive ones. For each plant, all the details of which type of light, soil, how much/little water and the watering method best suited, when/how to repot, how to propagate etc. are covered. This is all accompanied by gorgeous photos - which I found where also taken by the author, well done! Cannot recommend highly enough, although you may be in danger of filling your house with plants after reading this!
This quick read was an excellent resource for beginner plant people, like me. The photography in the book was stunning and the information was fantastic and easy to digest and understand. My only qualm was being referred to as a “plant parent” but only because that term is ridiculous to me.
If you’re wanting to start bringing plants into your home and life, I definitely suggest starting with this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for allowing me an advanced copy to read and review.
So helpful! I requested this book because I currently have house plants and wanted to be more informed. It was a huge help! She covers everything! There were plants that I already have, that I feel more comfortable taking care of, and plants that I want to get. Which makes me feel better about my ability to take care of them correctly. Super knowledgeable and helpful!
Did I get this book because I have a history of killing every single houseplant I’ve ever had? Yes.
Will this book ensure that all future houseplants live? I don’t know about that 🤷🏼♀️
I do think this is a pretty good book for beginners. There are lots of pictures, which is always helpful (although I would recommend reading this book in physical form, rather than e-book, because the placement of some of the pictures was confusing as to which entry it actually went to). The entries on individual plants do a good job of describing their needs, as far as light and watering and so forth.
I do really wish that there was better notation for the plants that are toxic to pets, because I know I’m not the only person who has that concern. It is a very small notation on the Quick Care Tips. I think it would’ve been much more helpful if there was a large symbol right next to the plant name, like a cat head with a line drawn through it, something like that. I was also rather thrown off that there is a chapter for diva plants. If I am a beginner then I really don’t have the wherewithal to care for a demanding and exacting plant.
Thank you to NetGalley & Fox Chapel Publishing for this advance reader copy. All opinions are my own.
