Cute romance. I enjoyed it. It was very wholesome. I don’t know how I really felt about the cat fishing. It was very dishonest even if her intentions were good. However I looked past it and found it overall a very cute, quirky romance that I enjoyed!
I was so happy getting my hands on this book since I’ve enjoyed reading her previous books.
When Wren overheard Asher being teased mercilessly for being catfished, she jumped in pretending to be his online girlfriend. The problem was she started liking Asher and didn’t know how to unravel her lies.
She was sweet and caring towards animals and her bestie. She was a bit of a control freak but after the circumstances she had to live through it was understandable. Asher was sweet as well but he had a bestie that loved everything Tik Tok. Which was annoying. I liked them as a couple. They simply fit perfectly. The best friends were okay. More like ornaments than anything else.
The story was somewhat predictable. I liked the overall story and the romance. I especially loved Bean (precious dog) and anything involving dogs. Unfortunately the story was so much better with Bean in it that I lost some focus on the actual story if that makes any sense.
Overall, cute romance with a sweet dog. I recommend this to others that enjoyed her previous books.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my copy in exchange for my honest review.
A quirky cute romance, what Kasie West does best! I don't know how plausible I found this story with all of it components of social media and the coverups, but it was a fun, quick read.
Wren decides to take pity on a stranger and pretend that she is the girl he has come to the coffee shop to meet on a blind date so that he isn't stood up. Asher plays along and soon the two develop feelings for each other. But is a relationship based on lies able to survive? This adorable story will answer all of your questions. Thank you the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
How do you help a guy who is being catfished? By catfishing him. Wren is a nice person, so when she see’s a guy about to get stood up and being filmed for his own humiliation and can tell he’s being catfished by his online crush, she decides to save him by pretending to be said online crush. Wren thinks this is just a one time thing and that she’ll never into the guy who turns out to be named Asher ever again... except he shows up at her work place and now she’s fake dating him. Wren can’t find it in herself to tell him the truth and he’s charming and cute so whats the harm? Yet Asher is hiding secrets of his own and can they actually have a real relationship if its built on lies? Unfortunately this did not work for me, in fact, I really disliked the turn of events and the way some of these characters were acting. Like Wren was a pretty nice girl, she wanted to do a nice thing and she even tried to tell him the truth, but what Asher does later on? Yeah no thanks, I would definitely not have forgiven him or taken him back. Overall, it started off cute but fell off by the end and I just was not rooting for the couple at all. While this one wasn’t for me, maybe it’ll work out better for you if you like catfishing and fake dating young adult romances.

After meeting in a helpful catfish scenario, Wren and Asher build a relationship while volunteering at a pet shelter.
A quick, sweet read that West always does a great job.
I found myself losing focus and slow at times, but overall enjoyable.
3/5 Stars
A sweet YA rom com, and just what I needed after reading dark stuff recently.
Although I liked this a lot, my reason for 3/5 is because I think I may be too old for YA books now, or maybe this one was just too young for me.
I really liked the depiction of social media in this, how it represents the negative effects of social media and as well as the conversations around dysfunctional family dynamics, which most YA books do not really show much of.
I LOVE Kasie West!!!
I have read almost all of her books and I always have so much fun with them!! I loved the two characters together and their banter with each other was so adorable. It reminded me a lot of my relationship and it was cute to watch them grow together.
I can’t wait to read everything else she comes out with!!
I loved Places We've Never Been. And West does it again bringing us another sweet YA contemporary romance.
Borrow My Heart by Kasie West was an enjoyable, sweet contemporary Young Adult novel that I adored.
I had the best time reading and loving Wren and Asher's cute and charming story.
This fake-dating is a fresh, light read with very well-written strong characters.
Kasie West keeps you glued to the pages to see what will happen on this adventure of life.
I read this one in two sittings and was glued to this story. I could not wait to return.
One of the best sweetest rom-coms and I was so excited to read another West story.
She captivates me every single time!

Thank You Netgalley and Random House Children's & Delacorte Press for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this eARC!
First off, I received a free ARC of this from the Publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
Second off, I tend to love Kasie West books. There have only been a couple that have just been good and not really good for me. This one was amazing. I gobbled it up. I loved the characters. Wren and Asher were great main characters. Bean was an amazing puppers! Dale and Kamala were great additions, I hope book two is about them. Dale had to grow on a person though. I like that this one had some depth and not everything was happy with Wren's life. Already chomping for the next Kasie West book and this one is not even officially published yet!
I wanted to enjoy this but overall found the story, characters, and plot to be something not what I was longing for or one that I would pick back up.
4.5 stars.
Thank you, Net Galley! I received this as an e-Arc and immediately fell in love with the premise. This book had some surprisingly deep moments. I cried! It was so sweet. Love Kasie West!
This was an incredibly sweet and quick read. While it is very light hearted on the surface it does deal with some emotionally heavy issues such as strained parental relationships, online toxicity and animal welfare.
This book touches on how harmful social media obsession can be to those around you and to yourself even if it isn't intentional.
Wren has many (understandable) rules in place to protect her heart after her mother abandoned her at a young age but soon learns that matters of the heart can not be controlled.
It may be a far fetched idea that a random girl would try to help a stranger save face from being catfished but it is incredibly cute and endearing. I laughed out loud many times.
I also welled up with tears watching her pain when she learned the boy she was breaking all her rules for was essentially using her to go viral on TikTok, even if he didn't intend to. And of course you have to cry when the girl that works at the shelter has to say good bye to her favorite dog that she worked so hard to find a home for.
Chapter 10 has some mistakes with names (Kamala and Zoey seem to be interchanged here) but otherwise I found this to be a sweet, cute little YA romance that helped me pass my afternoon.
I received this complimentary e-ARC from the publisher, courtesy of NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
Kasie West always delivers such sweet, thoughtful, and nostalgic books that capture the realities of being a young adult. Fun, quirky characters with a good third act conflict. Well written and a quick, light read. Definitely recommend for teens-new adult looking for an engaging and relatable story.
Thank you to Penguin and Netgalley for the eARC!
I needed to dwell on this one a little bit because it had the BEST worst third act break up I have ever read. Best because it made me feel so strongly and was just the right amount of dramatic. Worst because I was distraught and flabbergasted. No spoilers but be Brave. You can do this.
Anyway, overall I really enjoyed this book and I think if my feelings weren’t hurt so devastatingly, I would have given this 5 stars. The wrap up afterward was spectacular and I loved it.
Our main characters, Wren and Asher were great. I especially loved Wren because she was a firecracker but also extremely sensitive. She had a realistic take on the world stemming from her past and she had trouble trusting others. Asher was good, but not quite as good as Wren. I enjoyed his devil-may-care attitude but sometimes he frustrated me. He truly is a boy and not a man - though he does grow up a bit in the story. I loved their interactions the most; their banter was adorable.
Now I know this is a series so I would love it if Dale and Kamala got their own book. 🙏 Kasie, I’m pleading here. Those two were so cute and I need more of them - because they never really got a resolution!
This book was so fun! It reminded me of "Tweet Cute" by Emma Lorde, and it was so entertaining from start to finish!
Every time I’ve been in the mood for a good YA book lately, it’s impossible to search and not come across the name Kasie West. Borrow My Heart was my first time actually picking up one of her books, and it met my expectations and checked all the right boxes for a fun and quick YA romance read.
The plot feels like a new twist on your typical anonymous online relationship trope. Think A Cinderella Story, but Cinderella is probably a 40 year old male catfish, and main character Wren steps in to rescue the unsuspecting guy in the scenario. About halfway through, I thought I had the story figured out, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it didn’t quite follow the predictable plot I was expecting.
I don’t know what it says about me, but Bean the loveably grumpy shelter dog was my favorite character. I’d totally take him home!
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC to review. It was a pleasure to read and one I’d recommend to my fellow YA fans.
Borrow My Heart by Kasie West was a really cute read. I think that a younger audience would definitely enjoy this a lot more than I did. I really enjoyed the first half way more than the second half BUT it was still good! I love pets in books I am a sucker for them so I really loved how there were so many animals. Overall, it was a cute and quick read. Thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review!
A cute YA rom-com about a girl who tries to control everything she can and a boy she feels sorry for and tries to save from humiliating social media hijinks by pretending to be his date.
Borrow My Heart by Kasie West hooked me from the first sentence and didn't let go until the last.
This is the story of Wren, who is sarcastic, witty, and a softie with a hard shell. She is spending time with her friend when two guys come in with one heckling the other that he is being catfished, and he is going to post his humiliation for all to see. Wren hears this and can't help but feel bad for the guy being catfished. She was hiding when they came in and when no one is showing up, she decides to help. She pretends to be the girl he has been talking to, Gemma. She introduces herself as Gemma, and Asher introduces himself. Their connection and banter are immediate. Wren intends to tell Asher that she isn't Gemma as soon as his friend, Dale, gives them a moment alone, but it doesn't come.
Asher and Wren end up spending a lot of time together trying to get the grumpy dog Bean, who only loves Wren and Asher adopted from the shelter where Wren works. What ensues is heart-warming, funny, heart-felt, and a story of growth.
I have loved every Kasie West book I have read, but this may be my new favorite. I cannot recommend this one enough, buy it now!
