Loved this great "buddy" story! First, the artwork is spot on. Second, the rat is the good guy, not the bad guy. Third, the friendship is somewhat of an equal partnership, not one smart/one dumb-type story.

Very cute and silly and much better than many books of its kind. Gnome and Rat make a hilarious odd-couple. The art is cozy and woodsy and very fun and supports the silly story well. Filled with funny characters, this is a promising start to a new series.

This title was so adorable! I love the adventures of this little gnome and rat. The soft illustrations and fun details were very enjoyable. The humor in the hair growing story was silly, and I love the sweet detail for how his hair helped the birds. I would recommend this title to children in K-3rd grade who are fans of other graphic novels like the Narwhal and Jelly series. I am excited to read about Gnome and Rat's further adventures.

This is a cute fun, short chapter graphic novel. The book is about two best friends, Gnome & Rat. Gnome loves his hat, but seems to have some troubles with it sometimes and Rat is there to support him & be a friend. These buddies will be popular wherever buddy stories are well loved. Everything from Elephant & Piggie to Frog & Toad!

This was a fun graphic novel to read. We get introduced to two best friends and saw them go on some fun adventures together. Each adventure was unique and a lot of fun to watch unfold. As this graphic novel comes to a close, you can see these adventures are far from over.

With such a cute cover, I found this one irresistible. I love that gnome, with his chubby face and remarkably swirly beard. And the character lives up to the design. He's silly and engaging, childlike and exuberant. The Rat is more practical and focused without becoming uptight or mean. These are simple stories appropriate for early elementary school kids. Nothing too serious and enough nonsense details to be entertaining to everyone.

What an adorable tale! Early reader comics are no longer in short supply and this is perfect for preschool and older. Gnome and Rat are friends and each small chapter goes over an adventure they have together. A sweet tale with cute artwork. Absolute must have.

Beginner graphic novel Gnome and Rat highlights the friendship between Gnome and Rat. The book is a series of short adventures, most focusing on Gnome's beloved red hat. Gnome manages to get into a variety of silly situations related to the hat. Rat serves as the voice of reason, helping Gnome navigate the different situations. Early readers will find the situations funny and enjoy the beautiful illustrations, too.

“Gnome and Rat” is a great book for reluctant readers, newly independent readers, and smaller kiddos that want to get started with graphic novels. Adorably illustrated and broken down into short, accessible chapters, this book would be a wonderful addition to any public and school library.

This is a delightful collection of tales about two friends. Most of the stories center around gnome and his hat. He gets very excited about it, and it falls to rat to calm him down.

I'm looking forward to more adventures involving these two, and I hope this becomes a long-running series.

This book is about two friends and is written as a graphic novel. The story is composed of easy to read words for children around the second grade level. The adventures are cute, the characters adorable and the book memorable. Kids will enjoy being able to read a graphic novel on their own at this age.

It was okay but I kind of feel like the market is flooded with this type of book. I really don't fault the author. It's just I've been reading a lot of Children's literature lately and I'm overwhelmed by the similarities. Overall I might buy this as a gift for someone but only if it was right in front of me. I don't believe I would seek it out.

Among all of the buddy-comedy graphic novels that have been published for younger readers, this one stands out to me. Maybe it's the funny red gnome hat that features prominently in the stories. Maybe it's that Rat, definitely the sharper intellect, never puts down or insults his friend Gnome. The art is lovely, the stories are giggle-worthy, and the friendship is solid. Perfect for K-2, or anyone needing some good, wholesome humor! Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC!

In this clever and somewhat punny graphic novel, you’ll find stories about the funny experiences of Rat and Gnome, with Gnome’s pointy red hat as the center of their attention. First, it’s Gnome’s hat’s birthday. Yes, that’s a thing. Know you know. Then after seeing some magicians, Gnome tries to fit inside his hat, which stretches the hat out! Now Gnome needs to get the hat fixed. In the meantime, he decides to grow more hair, and it doesn’t go as planned. If your 7 to 10 year olds readers enjoy one silly adventure after another, they will love this book.

This is a very cute, quite funny little graphic novel [I believe they are calling these "beginner graphic novels"] about a funny little gnome and his best friend Rat and their adventures together. Filled with really great illustrations that really add to the written story [some really bring home how funny the story is], this book will be a great addition to an early readers book pile. Really well done!

I loved the adventures of
Ray, Gnome, and his Hat. Gnome's obsession with his hat mirrors my own obsession with books so I felt his giddiness and excitement at every turn. I love that Rat keeps him grounded. Us hat-loving, or book-loving, characters need a grounding force in our lives!
Oh and the illustrations are ADORABLE!

Gnome and Rat are friends who share a home though each has their own space. Lower to mid elementary readers will appreciate the humor in each of the short chapters as they experience life with these two. The characters are kind and interact well with each other. Gnome is a delight and full of energy and joy. Rat is quieter but his love for others shines through. The artwork shows enough details without drowning the overall story.
Stohler's new series will fly off the shelf for readers who want the comic experience with a gentle story.

Do we really need another odd-couple easy reader, even if it is a comic? If it’s Gnome and Rat, the answer is yes! Ever since the debut of Arnold Lobel’s classic couple, Frog and Toad, the contrasting friends and roommates has been a popular trope. Elephant and Piggie are the modern classic standard, but it’s an easy form to fit a simple plot and text. Authors and artists have been churning out books like these with varying results, especially along the lines of actually portraying healthy relationships and friendships, and this new offering is delightful and heart-warming.

I had a smile on my face the WHOLE time I was reading this collection of short stories about Gnome and his best friend, Rat. I wasn't too sure about the art style at first, since usually I associate that style with sort of crass and immature material, but this was just a very wholesome and sweet read. The vibes reminded me a bit of the "Owly" series, which I also happen to love. I can't wait to read more!
