KL Slater almost always blows my mind! This was the perfect example of “gripping.” Absolutely love reading a thriller with pace changes, twists, surprising moments, etc. This story delivers in the best Slater fashion with an unpredictable ending that leaves your jaw on the floor.

Phillipa Roberts is about to attend an awarding ceremony for the Smoking Gun Award for the crime fiction of the year when she just disappears.

Then suddenly Eve Hewitt is the narrator of the new book of Philippa Roberts which came out eight months after she was missing. She was the narrator for the first nine books of the series and with everything happening to her life, she grabs this opportunity leaving her daughter with her mother.

She accidentally got the unedited copy of the book and questions everything happening to Phillipa since the book seems different than the first nine books.

Eve questions people who are close to Phillipa to get to the truth but somebody wants her to stop this or else something will happen. Will she know the answers?

There are three point of views in this book which are the Narrator who is Eve, Chad who is a superfan of Phillipa's books and the abducted person.

It starts out interesting with Phillipa suddenly disappearing. The start of the book is engaging since it is the point of view of the abducted person and her terrifying experience locked in a cold, damp and dark room. It slowly builds up when Eve accidentally got a copy of an unedited book of Phillipa. Eve starts questioning Phillipa's disappearance since it seems like there's a hidden message from the unedited book but somebody noticed her persistent questioning and decided to scare her. It did not work though since it made Eve more determined to get to the truth.

Things started escalating when Eve got an important clue from her ex-husband's office. It was a letter from Phillipa which was weird to Eve. Another shocking letter was handed over to her by her ex-husband's girlfriend.

The gripping part is when Chad approached Eve about what he thinks he knows of Phillipa's disappearance. Together they found the truth.

I give this book a 3.5 stars since I feel it seems easy for Eve to get information from the people she asked about Phillipa's life before she disappeared. Like how Fleur who is Phillipa's wife just started opening up to Eve about things she did not even mention to the police. Or how Jules who is Phillipa's editor gives information easily as well. It seems too easy for me and unrealistic. At 80% of the book, all the truth came out. Some of it is predictable and some are also shocking. However it doesn't have the WOW WHAT JUST HAPPENED factor I was looking for.

Overall this book is fun. I recommend this to anyone who likes mystery. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance reading copy.

K.L. Slater's The Narrator is a gripping psychological thriller that showcases her talent for crafting intense and suspenseful stories. This novel dives deep into the complexities of human nature and the dark secrets that people often hide.

The story revolves around Eve, a successful audiobook narrator, who finds herself entangled in a mystery when she receives a manuscript that bears an uncanny resemblance to her own life and the tragic events that shattered her family. As Eve delves into the manuscript, she uncovers unsettling parallels and hidden truths that force her to confront her past and the unresolved trauma that haunts her.

Slater’s writing is taut and engaging, drawing readers into Eve’s world with vivid descriptions and a palpable sense of tension. The plot is expertly paced, with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Each chapter peels back another layer of the mystery, revealing new clues and raising more questions.

The characters are well-developed, particularly Eve, whose vulnerability and determination make her a compelling protagonist. Her journey is both heartbreaking and empowering, as she navigates through a web of deception and betrayal to uncover the truth.

The Narrator is a standout thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Slater's ability to weave a complex and unpredictable story makes this book a must-read for fans of psychological suspense. The blend of personal drama and mystery is executed flawlessly, resulting in a novel that is both emotionally resonant and intensely thrilling.

The Narrator is a gripping psychological thriller, that once you start, you won't want to stop. It's the perfect "popcorn" book

This is my first book by the author, but it won't be the last. Plot twists that come out of no where are a sure fire way to make me want to read more from an author and KL Slater did just that

Thanks for the advanced copy NetGalley

The Narrator is an interesting story but I feel it took just a tad to long to really dig into the story line.
Once it really started to pick up it was over in no time.
This story has a lot of potential but just didn’t quite meet the standard for me.

When bestselling author Phillips goes missing some people say she has simply wanted to disappear. However when a manuscript of her works turns up its down to the narrator of the audiobooks to spot that something isn’t quite right. Can she work it out before it’s too late?

I’ve been a big fan of this authors books and this one was just as good as all the others. I mean to start with what bookworm doesn’t like reading about authors and books? I loved the plot of this - it was really twisty and I just couldn’t work it all out. I didn’t actually work the twist out either and I was very shocked. I liked the characters too especially as a lot of them were flawed and I just couldn’t work out who to trust. All in all a good read - one that I’d recommend. I’d like to read more books by this author.

Kim Slater is a particular taste. I enjoy her books. However, they take a bit more out of me than most thrillers. I have to make myself to read some long, convoluted and over-descriptive places. The pace sometimes was not to my liking. But I loved the premise and the base of the story. Characters and what they were going through was identifiable and possible to relate to.
A very worth-while installment fo the fans fo Kim Slater.

Oh my days what an absolutely gripping and thrilling read.
It was simply so exciting that you would hold your breath, unable to stop reading until the twists ended in the incredible conclusion.
A book that will be etched into your memory, forcing you to question everyone around you.
Five Stars.

Another great novel by K L Slater. When writer Philippa goes missing and months later her last novel is discovered, the narrator must figure out when she has gone and who is hiding her. Lots of twists.

I really liked this book! It is about woman who is down on her luck who is selected to be the narrator for a book from a best selling author. While this is the life line she needed, why was she chosen when the author of the book is missing? The narration of the book becomes creepily becomes familiar and it's clear her daughter is in danger.

Philippa a best selling author of the Tower Series, disappears on the night she is widely tipped to get the Smoking Gun Award for Crime Fiction of the year. She has been missing for eight months.

I loved everything about this, the plot and red herrings kept me fully engaged and the ending was epic!!!

Another fantastic book by this wonderful author.

As is usual for this excellent author, another very good book. Brilliantly written and didn't guess how it would end.

The book started a bit slow then suddenly too fast at the end. I love the behind the scenes look on publishing (my dream job!). I didn’t like the characters though. They were a bit of an exaggeration like too grumpy, too happy, overly friendly, too weird, etc. I didn’t expect the twist but the story was absurd. I gave it an extra 1 star for that twist and it was easy to read.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC copy of the book.

What a great premise for us thriller and audiobook fans!
I was so hopeful for this one, and I loved it. Read it in a day, it was full of drama and intrigue to keep me interesting and guessing. The ending threw me completely off centre!
I love K L Slater's books, and this was one of her best!
The multiple POVs added an extra dimension and added to the twists as you see the drama play out.
Loved it.
