Successful novelist, Philippa Roberts, disappeared 10 months ago but now the 10th follow up to her successful series has been found by her wife but when narrator, Eve, begins reading for the book she notices some big discrepancies between Philippa's previous books and this one! What happened to Philippa and is she really responsible for the newest edition of The Tower series? Are there hidden clues to her disappearance in the book? Has Eve put herself and her daughter in danger by following up on her concerns with the newest book? Eve's ex-husband, Philippa herself, and super-fan, Chad are also harboring secrets that may or may not be related to Philippa's disappearance!
After reading so many thrillers, I can usually have an idea of what is going to happen but The Narrator had a shocking ending! I can't imagine anyone guessing how this one plays out! The Narrator was a quick easy read but other than the ending, it was pretty drab. The characters were flat, unbelievable and for the most part, unlikable and the whole story was pretty far reaching!
Another brilliant read from K.L. Slater!
I throughly adored this book and Eve is such a brilliant character. I feel all bookworms will love that this story follows an author and her super fans.
I so enjoyed being on this journey with Eve and highly recommend this book (and literally all others by K.L. Slater!)
What an exciting ride! The book grips you from the start and makes you keep grabbing for it to know what really happened to Philippa. The twist and the characters kept me guessing till the end and even then I had it wrong. This was my first read of this author but I will be reading more for sure!
Run do not walk to get your hands on this book when published on January 6, 2023.
This is my second KL Slater book and I could not put this down like her last one! The story has many twists and turns which keeps you on edge through out. It was slow to start but worth sticking with as it has excellent characters and unexpected ending. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller.
Thanks to Netgally & Bookouture for sending me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I did not see that coming! This was a great story with a twist I did not see coming. It was engaging and kept me entertained from beginning to end!
Awesome story telling.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to preview the great book.
The Narrator is a twisty thriller that keeps you guessing until the last chapter. The novel follows our main character Eve, who is the narrator for the extremely popular crime author Philippe Robert’s Tower series. Philippe Robert went missing a year ago and police had no leads on what happened to her. However, while Philippe’s wife was renovating the house, a new manuscript for the Tower series was found and is going to be published and recorded for an audiobook. Eve is brought back to read but as she is recording, she notices some major differences between the existing books and this manuscript. Eve starts to wonder if maybe these are clues to help find Philippe and starts doing investigating on her own yet someone is doing everything they can to keep her from finding out the truth.
As a huge fan of reading crime fiction, I enjoyed the behind the scenes setting of the publishing world. All the characters were well developed and the plot had plenty of red herrings to keep the read actively turning the page wondering what was going to happen. The end had a great twist that I did not see coming and cleaned up all the sub plots in the novel. I greatly enjoyed this book and will continue putting books by K.L. Slater at the top of my “To Read” list.

I love books about authors and the publishing world, so when I saw a friend's review of this title, I had to jump on NetGalley and request it. What a jaw-dropping, tense read!
Eve is a single mother who, through family connections, was introduced to bestselling author Philippa Roberts. Philippa was instantly taken with Eve's smooth, dulcet voice, and invited her to narrate her book series. Eve was riding high narrating nine books, but then Philippa went missing on her way to an award's ceremony. Eve finds herself floundering until the unthinkable happens...a secret tenth manuscript in the series has been found, and Eve is asked to continue her narration. But as soon as she begins reading, she notices wild inconsistencies in just the first few chapters. The characters are all wrong, details don't match, and strangest of all, it seems as if Philippa may be hinting at something quite sinister. Could this manuscript be a clue to her whereabouts?
With red herrings galore, this was a fun, twisty read that had me guessing the entire time. THE NARRATOR will publish January 26, 2023. I thank Bookouture and NetGalley for the early read.
The Narrator by K. L. Slater
Eve is a recently single mum to five-year-old Scarlett and her life fell apart ten months ago when her husband left her and the world-famous author whose books she narrates, Philippa Roberts, disappeared so Eve lost her job and they had to move in with Eve’s mum.
Suddenly out of the blue one of Philippa’s books is found and Eve has to move to London to narrate the latest book in Philippa Roberts Towers serious leaving Scarlett with her mum. But no sooner is Eve settled in London in her narrating roll and shared apartment her ex-husband, Hugo suddenly wants to see Scarlett and Eve would have refused if someone asked her but her mum lets Hugo take Scarlett away to stay with him and his new wife.
I loved this book from page one. This book is a fast read that I could not put it down until I finished it. I would never have guessed who the villain was in a million guesses, the revelation was jaw dropping.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this eBook in exchange for an honest review
3 1/2 stars. The audio narrator of a popular fictional crime series gets involved in the case of the disappearance of the series' famous author. This is my first K.L. Slater book and I figured it would be an easy read thriller, and I was right. The main character was frustrating in that she was a big doormat for her ex, and there was a lot of implausibility in the twist, but it was a big one.
~Thank you to NetGalley and Publisher~
Having read most of the authors previous novels I was looking forward to reading her latest offering ‘The Narrator’
Eve is a single mum and a narrator for the International best selling author Philippa Roberts. But Philippa has been missing for 10 months now, so work as dried up for Eve. So, she moves back home into her mother’s house with her daughter Scarlett. Police has been looking for Philippa but with no success and thinks that she might have gone off somewhere to start a new life. Philippa has had mental health problems. But leaves a wife and stepson.
One day, she gets a call from the publishing company that a new manuscript has been found and they are asking Eve to narrate the audio version. But it means that she must move to London and leave her daughter with her mother. But her ex-husband Hugo has other ideas.
Thank you, Bookoutre for a copy of K.L. Slaters latest offering. I really enjoy the authors book, but this latest one I found really slow. The premise is interesting and there is a lot of characters and a lot of red herrings. But for me personally it didn’t pack a punch that I usually get from this author, so I struggled a bit with it. But I did glad I finished it. 3.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. Eve is a book narrator but her biggest author she works for is Philippa Roberts. On awards night, Pilippa disappears. Eighteen months later a manuscript for Philippa's 10th book in her Tower series is found, by her wife, buried in the attic. Philippa's stardom and Eve's career has hit a new high. But where is Philippa? Did she take her life? Did she disappear on her own? Was she kidnapped? Maybe we will finally find out! #TheNarrator #KLSlater #Jan2023
Another fast paced you think you figure it it and bam!! I truly enjoy K.L. Slaters books.Eve is an Audio book narrator whose primary author has disappeared. A mysterious final installment shows up months after Phillips’s disappeared.
Another stunning instalment by this author.
Wonderful characters and a sinister plot. This takes you down a dark road to find out that nothing is what it seems.
Heart pounding suspense throughout.
This plot starts at breakneck speeds and does not let up till the last page.
But this one…. No one sees this ending coming.
One of the best plot twists I’ve ever experienced!
Just another meh book. This was so hard for me to finish. I felt like I was crawling through the story and got to the point where I didn’t really care what happened, I just wanted it to end.
The MC Eve was semi likable. I wanted her to stand up for herself more, especially against her awful, gaslighting husband. Also would have liked to have seen more narrating, cough cough.
The ending was very abrupt. I felt like the author got tired of their own plot and needed it to end. It was an eye roll of an ending for me. Maybe a small twist but didn’t wrap up the ends very well. Or maybe at that point I just really was over it. 2.5 stars.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Another cracking read from Ms Slater! Full of twists and thoroughly engaging. The story is well paced with authentic characters.
This book makes you think and then think again their is so many twists and turns in this book to keep a reader going. Never saw half of it coming really enjoyed it.
WOW WOW and MORE WOW! I loved this book, I THOUGHT I had figured it out early on, JUST KIDDING, it was a complete shock to me! This was one of my faves, I have read almost every KL Slater book possible and the twists and turns in this one were wild. Such amazing characters and a fast paced read. I binged as much as I could! BRAVO! 5 STARS
I could have sworn I thought of every single possible ending for this book as I read it but somehow I was still BLOWN AWAY by the actual ending. I love the way KL Slater tells the story so well that you feel like you're in the scene with the characters. Speaking of characters, I adored every one of them. I loved this book just as I always love KL Slaters books!
An njoyable read that was well written, had a compelling story and well developed characters. A good level of twists kept me guessing too.
This was my first book by the author and it was pretty good! The twists and turns made for a fun read but I felt the ending was a bit rushed. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
